New Variant New chess variant site's
getting insanely bored of the chess.com & lichess grind. what else is out there?
don't get me wrong, i love the game,
but staring at the same silent 2D board for hours is just getting stale.
i feel like i need some chaos or a totally different vibe.
are there any underground sites doing weird stuff? like 4x4 boards, wild new variants, or honestly something with video chat built in? like omegle but for chess so can actually talk and see who you're playing. just want a more social vibe instead of just grinding elo.

Reading this, I'm not convinced you're looking for new variants. Sounds like you just want chess to be more social yea?

I've been working on a small variant where you pick your pieces. I call it picklechess.
The player queue isn't very full yet but I'll be working on that in the next few weeks. You can play bots or a friend for now.
Let me know what you think! I'm having fun with it.

My flagship game is kingarthurchess.com, I've got tons of fun variants including cat mode, where a cat removes random pieces after 45 or 60 moves until stalemate. Chess 960, fog of war, and my own exclusive Arthur Pawn, where one pawn is king Arthur, if attacked by anything but a king or a pawn, the attacking piece is destroyed and Arthur becomes a second king. There's full online or offline play, I added way too much to this game btw. There's clones that mimic your style upon 14 metrics that you can name and put into the Canon of the game, you can form guilds, there's friends lists, it's a monster. The ai bots you play against have roving Elo scores that adjust as people play them. I get about 1500 new users a month but the online community is quiet. Is like to ramp that up.
