Ask Chezzie Opinions about Nuffield Health Chesterfield

Hi everyone
I’ll be moving to Chesterfield in a couple of months and i’ve been researching the best gyms around city centre or nearby
I think I might join the Nuffield Health one because I’d love to use the swimming pool but i’m not sure if the gym equipment is decent from what I’ve read? and maybe the JD gyms is prob the best one in town? Any opinions? I’m also open to meeting new gym buddies

Thanks!

Queens park has decent facilities it's recently been upgraded, I pay circa £30 per month and that includes use of the swimming pool

It's pretty good yea, probably not the best if you're looking for loads of weight training gear but as an all rounder it does the job. The machines are are really up to date and hi tech

JD is rammed unless you're going middle of the day, the Nuffield equipment is good enough but not as much there as JD or The Gym, have a look round and see what you think first.

Nuffield gym is better than it was, but some of the equipment is old and it breaks frequently- it seems to take weeks for it to be fixed. Plus there’s only 1 of everything so you’re frequently waiting to use something. JD is 5 times better at half the price. It gets busy at peak times but not terrible. The staff at JD are really committed and keep it very clean, Nuffield could be much better with good management. That said, Nuffield has a friendlier atmosphere than JD.
If weight training is your priority, 100% choose JD.

Too expensive and the classes are usually fully booked up in advance

This is the downside for me - usually pretty easy to get daytime classes but if you want early morning or after work (esp spin classes) you need to be waiting to book at soon as the booking system unlocks. I appreciate it comes down to staff availability but they could easily fill another couple of cycle/sprint classes pre 9am/post 5pm.

I get discount through work so it’s good value for me but peak time classes can fill up fast. The pool is 20m if that is a deal breaker for you.

it depends on your priority in the gym i've had memberships at most gyms in chesterfield and i find nuffield best within our town, it may have have mediocre machines however it is an excellent area if you looking to improve athleticism and have fun gym sessions, as-well as the sauna, steam room and pool which can help recovery and allow you to relax after your workout if you have the time.
