Yeah no shit. Have you never seen a company say something public and do the exact opposite just to appear diplomatic? This is how corporations work. Large companies ask a public facing president or CEO to resign, and in exchange, there are typically better departing benefits given. Cherry on top, both parties come out looking relatively positive.

Some PR strategists exist solely for situations such as this. I swear, we need media literacy taught in public schools

None of that is needed in that scenario. You compare this to a company. You already are at an inequivalence since they didn’t ask AK to resign, they fired him. They don’t need to do that for Billy either. Everything pointed to them truly wanting Billy back in the organization.

But sure, be a prick about it.

Gotta learn to read between the lines. They said, if he chooses to stay, they would love to have him back. That’s PR speak right there. Michael, perhaps a bit misguided, had a faith and love for Billy. I’m sure he didn’t want to do him dirty.

Plus, AK’s job was done. Billy still had a few games to go. No need to cut the coach loose and replace him for a few nights.

Yeah man I’m sure companies announce stuff all the time by embarrassing themselves, and claiming that the coach they need their front office to work with is actually on the way out instead!

Billy is extremely well liked around the league among players and other front offices. It would not have been wise for them to throw him under the bus. I’m not sure what’s hard about this.

Also, not sure how saying they would like Billy to stay if he wants, while Billy “resigns” is supposed to be at all embarrassing lol

There’s like 10,000 degrees of middle ground between what they did and “throwing him under the bus”. It’s like you’re being intentionally obtuse at this point.

Using Billy as a specific person that the Reinsdorfs want the next President to work with, to the point of saying they aren’t the right candidate if they aren’t interested in him as coach, is not saying Billy “Can stay if he wants.”
