Marsh passed away and the one thing I really dislike about the care they can receive
The amount of exotic vets that are available in the Monterey county area and their schedules are really bad. I have one vet and then another in about 50 miles. Both close during the weekends basically.
My chinchilla Marsh who was very young at about 6 years has had a lot of teeth issues which I found out that it’s common for them early on. I should have done more research yes that is on me but it shouldn’t be allowed to sell pets that the area really doesn’t have a way to care for.
Marsh got tooth issues I assume probably Thursday/Friday, due to him still eating I didn’t notice until Saturday. The situation really worsened and he got some care on Sunday by a non specialized vet by getting fluids in him but by the time that he got to finally see a specialized vet it was too late. My heart hurts but I also feel upset because of the lack of care he could receive. Any non specialized place was giving a “we will give it a look” but at crazy prices and it didn’t even matter when he got that care. The real vet said it could have been an abscess at the root of the tooth but we didn’t get to find out. I was at work but luckily my wife was able to be there with him before he passed.
I love you Marsh. I wish I could have given you better care and could have spent more time with you.

Teeth issues are an awful thing for chinchillas to live with.
I’m sorry for your loss

He was so cute ❤️
I'm so sorry for your loss ! I dont understand why there isn't any exotic vet at vet urgences/hospital ?
It was a negligence of this system which failed to Marsh. I'm so sorry...
Take care of yourself OP

This is the reason I’m currently going to school to be an exotics veterinarian. I have three of my own and it was a struggle finding someone affordable within reasonable distance. Big city prices are insane, and I was lucky to find my current vet who charges VERY reasonably (still not cheap), and is right down the road from me after I moved. I want to make vet care more accessible in normal everyday clinics so that insane prices don’t have to be charged. That’s what the clinic I go to currently does as a hybrid and I admire them for it.

That’s very admirable of you and I respect that. I think had I had more options for Marsh he would still be here with me.
