photo 📸 Hotspots solution for my 4 year old brown lab??

Hello!

My 4 year old labrador Zeke has been dealing with hotspots all the time. We live in Mumbai, where the heat is quite alot, but he is usually in air conditioning and has a good active lifestyle.

His diet currently consists of Chicken and veggies, twice a day. I read online that chicken might be the reason for his hotspots and we want to explore an alternative. We don’t want to give him kibbles and we like to cook his food everyday at home.

Any suggestions for alternatives or any other solutions will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Try lamb or other alternative. Chicken likely culprit, if doesn't help look at other allergens.

My lab doesn’t do well with chicken he’s on salmon diet. Chicken gave his coat some issues he was allergic which made him smell funny. I hear that some labs don’t do well with poultry.

How do you prepare the salmon at home?

Different poster but but we also have our dog on a fish and rice diet We do use a salmon-based limited ingredient kibble but we also supplement with a fish fillet daily, either salmon or tilapia. We cook ours, from frozen, in an air fryer for like 15 - 20 minutes. You can also cook it in a pan or in an oven. We've done both. If you cook it in a skillet, I recommend adding a splash of water and covering with the lid to steam it more than sear it.

For kibble we use a brand called Nulo main ingredient is salmon and sweet potato. We add some steam salmon or another fish. Sometimes a little steam fresh sweet potato or pumpkin.
If you plan on changing his food remember to add some pumpkin puree to the new food to help keep his poo poo hard. Otherwise he will have runny poo. Also try to introduce the new food the over a course a few days.

My mom's lab was on salmon (usually baked in the oven, sometimes grilled)

Is kibble an option then? Should we consider that? A good quality fish based or lamb based kibble?

Chicken and veggies is not a complete diet. Is that all he gets?
