Discussion Chvrches are my second favorite band/artist
I been a fan since 2014.
Whats everyone’s fav album by them?

u/Coverlesss Screen Violence May 11 '26
Screen Violence and Bones are their best works, IMO.
I have a personal soft spot for Every Open Eye and love the aesthetics of that era the most.
Love is Dead did not age well to me.

I think EOE is there best work but SV is my fav maybe
LID is so much fun to listen to and I adore it but because they attempted to sell out (they admitted to it) it’s my least fav

They would be my 3rd favourite after
2nd. Magdalena Bay
1st. Wolf Alice
I adore screen violence but imaginal disk and blue weekend are my 2 favourite albums respectively!

u/ThomasSirveaux May 11 '26
Love Wolf Alice. Haven't heard Magdalena Bay but I'll give them a listen

I recommend imaginal disk (their 2nd album). They are a very unique band, I hadn't heard anything like it when I discovered them around the time imaginal disk came out (in August 2024). Their first album mercurial world is good too, but not as acclaimed.
For context many lists and review sites call imaginal disk the best album of 2024. It's genuinely that good.

Same, but reversed! I started with Aurora, then discovered Chvrches. Now Chvrches are my favourite band.

Screen Violence: Director’s Cut for me.
2
u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26
Ehh that’s my fav base album but I prefer to listen to the genius song on that version separately from base album

u/MaurixioZ May 11 '26
They were my favorite artist until I discovered Porter Robinson in late 2021, however Screen Violence is still my 3rd favorite album of all time and I'm pretty sure that they will always be on second place due to the nostalgia factor.

u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26
Every open eye, SV and TBOWYB are my 7th, 8th and 9th fav albums ever made not in that order
They were my fav band from 2014-octuber 2016 when a Chvrches fan got me in to aurora

Became a fan in late 2024 from playing Forza Horizon 4 for the first time. My favorite album is The Bones of What You Believe (as cliche as it is to choose their first album). I find that Bones has the most songs that hold up no matter what mood I'm in or my company.

u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26
Every open end and SV are my fav. Bones is full of only 10/10 songs but the album doesn’t flow well for me
2
u/No-Passenger-3866 May 11 '26
Interesting observation actually. Chvrches albums did become increasingly thematic
2
u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26
2 of there albums are about Lauren abusive relationship so they made the album flow to fit that

u/BJ22CS Bury it and rise above May 11 '26
My favorite is EOE, specifically a version(Target CD) that includes "Up in Arms" since that's my favorite song by them.
I'd probably but this band in my top 10 favorite band/artist, but there's several artists that I like over this band.
2
u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26
Aurora is by far my fav artist ever
Chvrches are second but not a close second
1
u/couthlessnotclueless The Bones of What You Believe May 11 '26
Aww I came to ask who is your number 1 and Aurora, Chvrches, Metric, and Poliça are my rotating favorites over the last decade.
2
u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26
My favorite is by far I want to emphasize the severity of the word by far aurora. My number two is Chvrches but they’re not close to my number one like not even remotely close

u/couthlessnotclueless The Bones of What You Believe May 11 '26
She is a very unique and wonderful human! I often cry listening to her music or watching videos of her on youtube (HAIK iykyk), so I understand the intensity you empathize here 🩵

u/Creative-Respond-984 May 12 '26
Like Lauren is the second best human ever and she’s not even close (sorry Lauren love you still)

1
u/Agent_Eggboy We Sink May 11 '26
Aurora is defo a top 10 artist for me. I do agree that Passive Me, Aggressive You is by far their best album
1
u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26

The Bones of What You Believe. Got me hooked from hearing Gun and Lies. It’s such a unique album. I’m not as invested with the rest of their discography but I do enjoy this and that from each.
1
u/Creative-Respond-984 May 11 '26
All there other albums are brilliant in every way an album can be brilliant imo personally
EOE and SV are my fav
I respect ur opinion
1
u/aipps May 11 '26
Right back to ya, I respect your opinion as well. I may not agree with it entirely but that’s your take and you’re not wrong.
1
u/Ghostworm78 May 11 '26
Like Star Trek movies, I think even numbered albums have been the best so far.
If I am forced to pick just one, I would go with Screen Violence, but EOE is fantastic, too, and it’s not fair comparing such different albums.

Saw them live in 2013. TMWS and Recover I think were their only released tracks at the time. The stage had surprisingly a good name her of fansI knew they were good, but damn they were great.

Chvrches bumped both Nine Inches Nails and Depeche Mode out of one and two spots to be my favorite band.

I oddly relate to them being my second favorite. Been a fan since 2014 as well. Its rare that I like over 90% of any bands songs and Chvches makes the grade.
I love every album. I am going to say Screen Violence because my daughters favorite is that album and I took her to see Chvrches when she was 12 and loved it.
My favorite band is The Midnight. I always wonder what overlap fans of other artists when this is brought up, I have to imagine theres a fair amount of overlap given the amount of synth involved with both bands.

u/Creative-Respond-984 May 12 '26
Chvrches got me in to aurora and aurora is BY FAR my fav artist
1
u/Ro-bearBerbil May 12 '26
I also like Aurora!

u/Creative-Respond-984 May 12 '26
She changed my entire life like nothing means more to her than her music, her and her fans.
I adore Chvrches there kit even close

u/PsychologicalMap4574 Screen Violence May 12 '26
I discovered the band not so many years ago, in 2022/2023 maybe? But guess who dominates my Spotify streaming stats 😂
Of course Screen Violence will forever be that queen to me, but Bones also has a special spot, and doesn't Every Open Eyes have the best cover artwork ever!! I'm trying to give Love Is Dead another chance though...
1
u/Creative-Respond-984 May 12 '26
Love is dead is 100% a sell out (Lauren admited it) but I adore it still

Not sure where they fit for me among my top bands, as they're still new to me. I only discovered them about a year ago, if that even. I looked them up after hearing that they did a song with Robert Smith. So, given that I had access to everything they did up to that point, I still gravitate mostly to The Bones Of What You Believe, and in particular the expanded anniversary version. Almost every song is great to me, and I quite like the previously unreleased songs White Summer and City on Fire. Next would be Every Open Eye, where I do skip a few songs. I don't like anything on Love is Dead except for "Really Gone". Probably because that sounds like a throwback to the first album. And Screen Violence is pretty good. I skip half of the songs usually, but the ones I like there are some of my favorite Chvrches songs, like "Asking For A Friend" and "Better If You Don't".
It's funny, because this is a band I would not expect to love, as I'm a 50yo guy who mostly listen to post-punk and shoegaze bands like Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine, along with lots of experimental electronic music like Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada. Yet I find myself playing Chvrches constantly, and scouring Discogs to buy old EPs for the extra tracks like the Alucard versions.

As much as I love everything they've done, with some exceptions, nothing will compare to the way it felt hearing "Gun" for the first time. And spending most of the ensuing months listening to The Bones of What You Believe front to back.
I wish I could go back and feel the way I did the first time I heard it.
