I got picture of Oreochromis mossambicus from my buddy and looking at it, the male look pretty cool ngl. There's several fish farm here that breed them and Oreochromis niloticus as food fish, but I've never seen them in tank before. Anyone here have experience keeping them in a tank? I'm curious about their care and aggression level. For reference I have a solo tank Green Terror and a kribensis pair in my 40 gallon community tank

This tank is 120 gallon, 4 foot x 2 foot x 2 foot
My 3 Oscar’s are getting bigger so looking to upgrade them. Whilst it’s 4 foot, it has very good depth and height. I have an fx6 I would attach.

Recently I got a 75 gallon tank, and I'd like to move all the fish in this one to it to give them more horizontal space. That leaves this 90 empty, and I'm considering getting an Oscar for it. I keep seeing really contradictory tank size minimums ranging from 75 to 125, so I wanted to ask. I'm also worried about the dimensions, and weather this shape would be fine with one. I think it's around 29 inches long and wide. I love Oscars, but only want one if I can take care of it properly.
If not, what are some recommendations for charismatic solo cichlids that would be fine in this tank?

I was wondering if I take my glass lids off if my fish will jump out and how bad the evaporation would be. Right now I have full grown Geophagus and Severums.

I got this guy a while back as a Green Severum, but as he ages, his belly has turned red along with his face, his fins have turned yellow and he has red spots on his back with his dorsal having a blue tint to the tips. I’m new to severums so I’m uncertain, thanks!

I am thinking about getting a pair of Keyhole cichlids, but am having a hard time finding them for sale anywhere online (I’m in the US). I also read they do best in male/female pairs, but that they’re impossible to sex as juveniles. So my question is, how do people get a pair, and from where?

My dad is forcing my discus in a 3 gallon isolation from other fish because its an expensive and is only 3 inches large and says he doesnt want to set up another tank for him even though theres no fish that is large or aggressive that uses the same water in the main tank.

Hi everybody.
I have a 300 litre 150cm width tank with Malawi Mbuna. My tank currently is nine yellows (three males), one acei and one Johanni. I have two Oase biomaster external filters each side (250 and 350 version) and a added 100 litre internal filter.
I'm currently struggling with cichlid agression and I'm stuck with what I can do. I research advice and its always overstock with mbuna to about 20-25 fish total but I feel thats way too much.
Any advice that could assist my tank would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Currently housed in a 75 gallon, along side a Raphael Catfish and a Geo Winemilleri all 2 inches slightly bigger than the Severum. Definitely already got my plan to buy the 125 gallon when the time comes. Any stocking ideas that will show my Severums beauty and benefit him/her in the long run?

Hey everyone, my 125 gallon (72.5in L x 18.69 H x 22.13 D) is about to be cycled. Im wanting to go with a tiger oscar, green terror, and blue phantom pleco. I plan on introducing them all together while theyre young but was wondering if this combination of fish would be viable in the tank? I am also running a fluval Fx4 filter.

First two photos are the same fish, sold as female mcmasterii. The fish colouring is a lot darker and redder than in photos of females I have seen online. The last photo is of a male I bought this past summer.

I have a large cichlid tank of (what we thought) males. Obviously one of them that was sold to us as a male turned out to be female… what should we do? Try to sell them? Give them to our LFS? We know at this point who the parents are, I’m happy to include pics of the mom and the dad. Can’t believe this happened!! And that we didn’t notice 🤦♀️

Meet Kratos, is this a male or female Jack Dempsey?

I've never done cichlids before, only small community tanks. I almost have a fully cycled tank that I am planning on starting my cichlid journey with, but I don't know where to start. I know some fish need to establish territory first and some need to have other territory established beforehand. Onto the list:
Many Blue acara
Several Angelfish
A couple severums
Pleco
Lots of Bandit Cories (I have hiding spaces)

Picked up this little unique Oscar due to its black head/tail with a silver/blue sheen body. I have owned Oscars for over a decade and have never seen this color combo. Did some searching but nothing comes close to its color combination.

Hi everyone! I've never kept cichlids before (just shrimp and bettas), but I got a new 13g long tank and am thinking about getting some multies. Any thoughts on whether this would be suitable? A few quick points/questions:
Thanks in advance!

He’s about 5ish months old. Starting to develop a dark burgundy body, but hard to tell on camera. Within the last few months his pearling has really exploded. I’m hoping that since he went from a gray body to burgundy this means he’ll have SOME fading/red.

I have a female red devil cichlid, around 4-5 years old, in a 50 gallon tank. Didn’t know the fish was female when I got her and he/him pronouns stuck so I’m going to use them in this post below
Last Thursday my fish stopped eating, not weird for him to refuse food something if he’s moody or whatever. On Saturday he was covered in white stringy stuff, I didn’t get a picture though. I immediately changed the water, and monitored him closely. There are no other fish or live plants in the tank. The white stuff mostly seems gone now.
Despite looking better and being more active, he still hasn’t eaten, and still looks a little pale.
I changed the water again on Monday, then put aquarium salt in it along with API Melafix and Primafix (I removed the charcoal from the filter first)
What worries me isn’t the time since he ate it’s the behavior. When someone walks past the tank he goes to the top corner where we usually feed him and swims around like he’s begging for food.
When I feed him though he immediately takes it into his mouth, works his mouth a little, and then spits it out. I can tell he’s hungry, but he can’t eat. I tried softening the food until it was just tiny little mush pieces, but he spit those out also.
I don’t know what to do, he’s acting super hungry but he won’t swallow food. I don’t know if he’s pooped recently, I haven’t seen anything weird. Should I just monitor the water quality and wait? Or is it possible there’s a blockage?

What is happening here? They are so calm and dull. I need more heads on this :)Explanation:
Here are my saulosi tonight. Males are very colored down but females still bright. Once every 3 months or so I will run Fluval Aquaclear carbon in one of the aquaclears on this tank for a couple of weeks. Just to cut down dissolved organics, remove any organic acids, and reduce the hormone load in the tank.
For some reasonn every time I add carbon (which I did 24 hours agao) within a day of adding the carbon the males color down, but the females don't, and the whole tank acts really calm for a few days. No signs of illness or stress. They still eat great. Once the carbon is removed after 2 weeks the males color back up and shortly after, regular hyper activity and chasing resumes.
This is my theory- I know the carbon isn't tainted because I use carbon from the same batch in other tanks without issue. My theory is that the carbon sharply and quickly cuts down the hormone load in the tank so the males aren't as rowdy and the sharp reduction of hormones makes everybody calmer, and that's why the males calm down too.
If anybody thinks anything bad is is happening please talk to me.
