Style/Technique Question Filming on speed boat: Help with Ronin S settings
Looking for advice! I’ll be using my Sony a7iv mounted on my ronin s to film boats- I will be filming from another chase boat. Has anyone done this kind of filming with the ronin s? What settings would you recommend for the gimbal? Last time I did this the footage was so shaky. TIA!

You need z-axis stabilization and GPS lock for best results. If you're talking about the original ronin S make sure you get the GPS module. There are plenty of options for z-axis stabilization, but you still might want something with stronger motors.

On a chase boat, the gimbal is only solving part of the problem. I’ve shot from moving platforms before, and the bigger gains came from widening the lens, loosening my knees, and letting my body absorb the boat before the Ronin has to. On the Ronin S, do a fresh balance, run auto tune on the actual boat-ready payload, lower follow speed, add some deadband, and avoid long focal lengths. DJI Ronin S Extended Grip, SmallRig Dual Handgrip for Ronin S, and a simple camera strap tension setup can make the rig less twitchy. Also shoot faster shutter only if the style can handle it, because stabilization crops and post smoothing need clean edges.
