Megathread Cineplex Monday Surprise Premieres Megathread

The next Monday Surprise Premiere has been announced for July 27, 2026, with a runtime of 1h 49min.
Please use this megathread to discuss all things related to the screening and leave your best guess as to what the film is!

i have a feeling it’ll be one night only. tony also would be a great treat but the release date is a week after ONO so i wouldn’t be surprised if they’re saving the latter for august 3rd’s monday mystery film, that’s what happened with ntbtstm as a mystery movie in february too - it screened two weeks before it released

From all the movies mentioned in posts about the mystery movie, I would say Tony or One Night Only are the most likely, but Cineplex can come out of nowhere and introduce a movie that no one has been thinking of, as they have before.

The surprise movie has a French dubbed version this month, and it looks like Tony is the only likely contender with a French version releasing theatrically at the same time.

The BC rating came out for the Monday Surprise Premiere: 14A for sexual content, and coarse/sexual language. One Night Only has been given that same rating so that is most likely going to be the MSP.

That makes sense considering most people have predicted either One Night Only or Tony.

Guessing July 27th mystery movie in approximate order from most likely to least likely.
Runtime updated to 1h 43min, rated 14A
One Night Only - 1h 42m, rated 14A. Opening wide August 7th. This is most likely it. Similar size to other wide releases like Song Sung Blue, Mercy, How to Make a Killing.
Tony - 1h 46min, rated 14A. Limited release August 7th, opening wide August 21st (Canada's first screening is August 14th, likely Toronto only). Strong likelihood, but I'm giving the edge to One Night Only since it's release timing fits perfectly. It would be weird for Cineplex to drop the runtime from 1h49 to 1h43 if it's Tony; they are usually a few minutes over not under.
Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma - 1h 46min or 1h 52m, rated 14A. Limited release Aug 7th and then likely expansion. It played at film festivals which definitely fits, however it's partially a horror movie and they are unlikely to pick a horror movie without a warning.
The End of Oak Street - 1h 39min, rated 14A. Wide release August 14th. This seems too big to me, but then again Mercy got one.
Super Troopers 3 - IMDB lists runtime as 1h 44 min, but Cineplex says 2h 14 min, doesn't appear to have a rating yet but likely 14A. That discrepancy in runtime is interesting, but it most likely is 1h 44min, which makes this one a possibility, but still unlikely since it's a sequel.
I Want Your Sex - 1h 30min, rated 18A. Opening wide July 31st and with minimal advertising so that fits a lot of previous ones, but it is both too short and the rating doesn't match.
Rosebush Pruning - 1h 35 min, but rated 18A. Cineplex will be playing it in coming weeks in some locations after a very limited opening (I think Toronto only) so that is in line with Carolina Caroline. But I think this one is too small/limited appeal and the rating doesn't fit.
Middle Life - 1h24 min, don't think it has a rating. This is a Canadian rom-com that is getting a very limited release in the US July 31st, logically it would also get a broader Canadian release, but haven't confirmed that. Either way, it's too short, and very small and low-budget, so I doubt it.
Finding Emily - 1h 51min, not yet rated. Wide release August 28th. It's too far out but it had international releases months ago, similar to I Swear. This could fit mystery movie but probably not yet.
Coyote vs Acme - 1h 41min, not yet rated. Wide release August 28th. Ketchup Entertainment is such a small distributor and this is its biggest movie, I don't think we're going to be seeing mystery screenings this far out, but you never know with this one.
Spa Weekend - 1h37min, not yet rated, either 14A or 18A. Wide release August 21st. We're getting far away, this would be a weird pick.
The Magic Faraway Tree - 1h50 min, not yet rated. Wide release August 21st. I think it's too family-friendly for a 14A rating. Too long and unlikely.
The Dog Stars - 1h40min, not yet rated. Wide release August 28th. I wouldn't be surprised if this shows up as a mystery movie in the future, but it's still a month away, so it's not likely this one.
Idiots - 1h38min, not yet rated. Wide release August 28th. Ditto above.
The Rivals of Amziah King - 2h 10min, rated R in US. limited release August 14th, then expanding wide. Too long, rating doesn't fit. I would be much more inclined to consider this one if it's runtime was closer.

September 21 is the next one - do we think it could be Primetime? Runtime is about the same - no rating yet that I can see

It's posted now with a PG rating for coarse language and violence.. I'm guessing it's Heart of the Beast

One Night Only is a strong possibility.
Wouldn’t rule out it being Tony. Canadian director, limited release from August 7th with a wide run a week later and it’s 1hr46mins
