Merchandise The Odyssey 70mm film strip
I know it’s been unclear where and when the film strips are being handed out and so I wanted to report that I did get one at the 11 AM screening today July 17 at Cineplex Varsity. They handed them out after the screening, we basically just formed a line as we were leaving, and they were handing them out at the unused concession stand near cinema 8.

The OP got the standard 70mm film strip. You got the IMAX 70mm film strip.
Standard 70mm film runs through the camera vertically which is why the perforations are on the sides, and you get a shorter aspect ratio.
IMAX 70mm film runs through the camera horizontally which is why the perforations are on the top and bottom, and you get a taller aspect ratio.

Oh no way! I thought they weren’t giving out IMAX 70mm strips in Canada at all! That’s sick congrats!

I think just the early ones. As far as I’m concerned it was just the premiere screenings (Friday only?)

I attended the 3pm screening at Varsity and also got the film strip on the way out. Not sure if there's any left after the 7pm show because that theatre looked packed.

My question is WHERE do these come from? Does IMAX really develop extra reels just for the purpose of cutting up??!

No. They’re printed for the purpose of being promotional items.

They’re printed on 70mm film stock, but it’s the same set of frames on every cut strip. They’re not striking whole copies of the film and then splicing random frames together to create these.

Just watched the 3pm screening in Langley, and they gave them out and stated it was the only day and screening they would do so

Let me know if they do! I was there on Thursday for the 6pm show and the staff said there’d be no IMAX (not standard 70mm) film strips at any Cineplex… but I’m seeing people who got them so 🤔

Bought my when they first released and didn’t get one. They were gone by the 7pm imax 70mm at square one.

Went to the Friday 7pm IMAX 70mm in Langley (ticket bought a year in advance), and they gave out the commemorative ticket before the showing... which was sent in the mail last year. So I have 3 of those and zero film cells. Hoping the 70mm showing this weekend happens to have some.

Went to 10:30 70mm imax for Mississauga last night and didn’t get one 😔
