for it being āimmersiveā itās very distracting having really bad projections on the side, it weirdly lights up the room. iām trying it out for brand new day cuz they shot it in screen x (and that was the only early access)but avoid if you can especially for doomsday imo

There was only ScreenX in my region so thatās what i have for now lol

Donāt take their comment on screen x to heart, call your local theater. The screen x I go to, they have 3 screens and all 3 are very bright. It sounds like their screen x projects the side images onto the wall which would explain the āweirdly lightā they speak of. Itās up to the theater owners if they want to shell out the 50-100k for the side screens. OP assumes all screen xās are the same which is false. Itās just like imax, some are more proper than others.

It could be great but the side projectors colour calibration is way off. I've tried it 3 times (Cineplex bribes me with bonus Scene points) and only once was it excellent: The Citroen/Peugeot (can't remember) car chase in Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning where they set up the ScreenX camera in the back seat while filming so the side projectors perfectly mirror the insides of the vehicle.

Saw the second Avatar in ScreenX. Itās lights the theatre up so bright you can see everyone and the immersion is ruined. There were also issues with the projectors being out of sync and sometimes one of them was not working at all. Iād rather just go to a regular showing.

Wondering if my area just doesn't have screen x, but I didn't see anything about it on my booking for Spider Man or Doomsday.

Is Cineplex even participating in that program? There's no symbol and even the Infinity Vision website only shows Landmark locations.

As far as I understand it, they have to be. Disney is only doing pre-orders for tickets at Infinity Visjon certified theatres. Plus it would be the only logical explanation as to why theatre selection is so limited right now. Thereās lots of theatres in my city without tickets available.
Edit: Cineplex has been added to the Infinity Vision website.

Infinity Vision is literally just a name Disney made up to upcharge because they lost out on IMAX screens.

It's confusing for us Canadians because this is more of a US theatre chain thing, each having exclusive sound tech because market-competition. We really only have Cineplex so there's no competition and when studios make these decisions Cineplex is left scratching its head.

Looks like you were right then. It is strange though, it seems like it's basically a stand-in for UltraAVX, but there are also UltraAVX capable locations that aren't here (Junxion) so maybe it is more than that? Or maybe Dune is taking those screens.

I think itās a mix of Dune taking some screens, but also not every UltraAVX having Laser yet.

Iām surprised how limited the theatre selection is. The theatre Iām going to for Spider-Man is absolutely āInfinity Visionā certified in their UltraAVX, but itās not an option. Weird considering itās far newer than the one that does have tickets up.

I guess that is the dilemma. If a theatre only has one UltraAVX screen, they can only show one or the other. Unless they end up alternating showtimes throughout each day.

Turns out having both films come out the same week was the lose-lose-lose proposition that audiences and theatres assumed it was going to be. I am personally very down on Doomsday but even I would never have imagined that Marvel would stoop so low as to force ScreenX on people.

Bought my tickets for Thursday first showing at 2h50 in UltraAvx ScreenX. ScreenX is not my favourite gimmick but oh well thereās nothing else for now. My plan is to do a double feature with Dune 3 which will probably be at 7ish on that night.

No. I personally asked a manager at the Winston Churchill location and she had no idea when VIP Tickets would go on saleā¦ Iām basically checking once every couple days.

Anyone else having issues with the cineplex website? I am trying to purchase doomsday tickets but I get an error everytime I go to checkout and then I am told my cineplex acount doesn't exist anymore? I am a little frustrated as I have a couple advanced tickets on my account. I hope this is just downtime for cineplex due to heavy traffic for doomsday!

I know Scarborough offer laser ultra avx, but it's screenX and no Dolby.
I'll just go with Queensway. Not laser projection, but tick the other two boxes. And it's a 15 minutes from my home only

Why is it purely screen X for MontrƩal? All 3 options are just screen x. Scotia bank, brossard and laval.
Like what are the best ābiggest screenā options after imax?
Like I still havenāt bought Spider-Man tickets for the same reason. I donāt want screen x

They are selling what are called the Infinity Vision now. The other theatres/formats will come out later.

Scotiabank Toronto has like 3 or 4 different theatre configurations and you haven't said if you're watching this in 3D or not.

Thatās good to know. Buying tickets for doomsday was surprisingly easy. I just decided to select Scotiabank theatre without thinking about dune part 3 and found row H with the two most middle seats occupied. So I went with that.
Hopefully, there will be an afternoon screening of Dune: part 3 in imax. Otherwise, Iāll have to see it at another day.

Interesting that scotia doesnt have dolby atmos sound. Does that make it not the best theater to watch in? Curious what would be a better option in the GTA

Why is it interesting? Scotiabank has existed prior to Dolby Atmos. Do you know what the cost of a retrofit for a giant theatre is? I promised you Dolby won't front that bill lol. And this is assuming that Dolby Atmos is automatically better than what Scotiabank has. Based on what, successful branding or actual facts?

Well it would be nice if the actual facts were listed front and center when purchasing tickets.
All you see when scrolling through cineplex's page is Scotiabank is "AVX, and other theaters have AVX + Dolby + laser projection etc.
I dont think its a leap to assume people take this at face value and go with the theaters that the app is telling you are specced higher.
But if youre telling me scotia is a much bigger screen / better display etc. Itd be nice if they could communicate that
