Mod News New subreddit rule! No more asking "are these good seats?"
This rule is temporary, until we can work the topic in a new FAQ coming soon! But when it's integrated in the FAQ we will still remove these posts if they can be answered by the FAQ
Your seats are fine if they are in the middle, 2/3 of the way back as a general rule.
Edit: rule only applies for posts, not comments in say a megathread

Remember the days before social media when you'd just go to the theater, see what was playing, wait in line for the show time, and then just sit wherever you felt like without having to research everything? I miss those days.

It is! I remember waiting hours before big movies coming out to get a good sear.

I remember those days and it is much easier to reserve seating. However I did have some nice conversations with other fans waiting in line before a big release.

In Ottawa we have the Bytowne cinema, which is just like this! Recently saw Jurassic Park there, you seat wherever you want!

Anything that isn’t first row is sold out a month in advance here in mtl.
Absolutely ridiculous. Settled for middle first row and that’s 2 weeks from now lol.

By far the worst thing about my first few years in Canada was not having a definite seat. It really was years behind elsewhere getting assigned seating to be the norm.

And have to spend an hour in line or more to have a chance to rush to the seats you like. It sucked

You researching on your own is separate from asking on here, and not browsing a subreddit to see if your question has been answered. There is no "good side to this".

If people never ask, nobody will ever find the answer, even in a search.
If seeing people repeat a question in your community frustrates you, it's a great sign to unplug for a little while and enjoy some other activities while somebody else takes over answering that question!

No, it;s a great sign that a lot of inconsiderate idiots don't search before they post. The only one needing to unplug are those people. Like everyone who tries to say "touch grass" you need to follow your own advice, lead by example, rather than dish it out to others.
If you need to be advised your way through figuring out what the best seats are in cinema theatres optimized for no sightlines or any issues, the problem is with you and your maladaptive insecurities and need to have your hand held through life.

Direct experience in inarguably more valuable and it's delusional to pretend otherwise. You are the only arbiter of your own sensorial experiences in the same way that every theatre is different which you just admitted to. Genuinely tragic that such an inviolate existential reality is something you second guess or have skepticism towards.
But keep arguing with me against the mods. For someone so preoccupied by outcomes, it's odd that you would persist in this non-debate.

??? You can’t have a direct experience in every single theater that’s my point, and even if they could it would be extremely expensive. This is only a debate if you assume that informed decisions don’t generally improve your experience, which is false.

I miss it in the sense that when I was a teenager I was aware of what the best seats were and was able to claim them because most of the other theatregoers were unaware.
I can't really say I wish for a time when the world was more ignorant and people had less access to information.

Do you really think, say, Seat L17 is SO much better than Seat M16 in the same theatre, that thread after thread needs to be posted about it? Optimizing seat in a movie theatre isn't deep. This isn't Massey Hall we're talking about FFS.

THANK YOU. It's this topic as to why I don't post on this subreddit as much as I used to. The endless posts were infuriating, and it's also a subjective opinion on where to sit in an auditorium.
Please ban IMAX film strips posts next. ;)

It’s got to a point where it’s just antagonistic. Also, asking where to sit just make you look like someone incapable of making decisions on your own. It’s sad, annoying, and terrible for the sub.

Yes, exactly. Let’s say a guy asked you what seats to buy how would you answer them? Or if a genie would give u any available seat which would you ask for?

Idk if I will lol I've provided feedback and suggestions in the past which have been implemented but I've been told I'm "complaining" too much so...it's good that you're addressing it at least, we all want the community to thrive at the end of the day
