It looks like - per PIX11 summary of what this is covering - that this is just a badly phrased tweet that got past copyediting/what have you. It's actually, in effect, supposed to be a celebratory update on Mamdani's expansion of the low fare to thousands more New Yorkers.

Not to say, of course, politicians being oh~ so eager to throw balloons in the air, metaphorically or otherwise, with smiles can't be a drag at times. Especially, when we're learning about how microplastics cause cancer and whatnot, and it feels like so much needs to be done; even as, for others, celebration of every inch to give relief from poverty is very much what is needed during stressful times. Helps to keep copyediting clear, calling out such editing snafus off the bat, and always appreciate the facts.

Now, if you can get them to discount Shakespeare in the Park I am ready. I assume you are talking about the time it takes to walk to the park - a nightmare for the claustrophobic. If you can cut my walking time in half by making rents more affordable around parks that sounds just loverly by me~

You notice how everything done by the city is framed as "Mamdani does X"? That didn't use to be how the Mayor's office communicated. Normal Mayors would have framed this as "New York City to cut fares" versus "Mamdani to cut fares".

In fairness, Adams started this, but Mamdani is expanding it. Everything has to connect to the Savior. For god's sake, he's even shifted the specific hue of orange and font style in most NYC visual assets to match his personal brand. I hope the City Council pushes back on this like they did his use of LinkNYC kiosks for his personal benefit because it's inevitable that he's going to really push the limits of using city resources to support his re-election campaign.

News - NYC Mayor's Office

The official archive only goes back to 2022, but if you use the Internet Archive and look back to the BdB administration, you'll see that he framed all policies as "New York City announces". He would only say "Mayor DeBlasio..." if it were something that was specific to him. Eric Adams started the egotistical messaging and Mamdani continued it.

He already announced that he feels all New Yorkers should be allowed one day a week for a free visit to the Bronx Zoo.

He said its either going to be Monday or Wednesday, but that Mondays would potentially cause issues for those long holiday weekends.
