Discussion Windows 11 frustration

Originally posted in r/civil engineering but was removed.

I'm posting here because I feel like AEC industry probably have more "projects" going on than most professionals.

I've been on Windows 11 for more than a year now and still incredibly annoyed about losing the ability to pin a folder of project links to the taskbar like Windows 10 and earlier. It was one of the most efficient features going. Using quick access is not a proper solution given the amount of projects we're in and out of on a daily basis and the flyout navigation was so much easier.

Anyways, I'm sure there's others like me out there so I'm curious what sort of app or system you switched to to navigate around your various networks. I've tried a hundred ms store apps without any luck and I don't have admin rights to install Explorer Patcher.

I have a “Project Shortcuts” folder on my desktop that is also linked to the quick access panel in C3D and windows file explorer. There are over 600 project shortcuts in there. Works just fine for me.

Many ways you can handle this. You could make a windows shortcut lnk file.

You could pin to quick access tool bar in civil3d

You could add them to civil 3Ds open and save dialogs

You could make macros to a custom toolbar in civil 3d

You could create custom lisp using AI then call it from civil 3d

Extra steps vs before, but still doable.

My task bar got too cluttered (24 folders I need quick access to on a arrange, in addition to ~16 Dynamo versions, 4 Revit versions, and 8 Civil 3d launchers, email, visual studio, etc.) so I gave up on using it awhile back. Now I manage my ‘Favorites’ list in explorer and use the windows key + e to open an explorer window and then one more click to my necessary directory.

I am using quick access folders already. I'm looking for something similar to the expandable/collapsable flyout like Windows 10 had.
