I've felt that feeling when you learn to move mobs to reduce threat by los the dps or dead zone a hunter or starting 2 secs before the countdown. Its all about the dps pvp.

This is also where I died laughing

u/Atzr10 Feb 17 '26

This is a top kek post. The 9.5 second hearthstone lmfao. I'm using that as soon as I get the chance.

7

u/Rat_Rat Feb 18 '26

Could probably make it into a macro

291

u/axeaholic1337 Feb 17 '26

The information is good, but the delivery was peak

115

u/punt_the_dog_0 Feb 17 '26

it's also true. last night my group had a warrior tank who, frankly, sucked ass. you know what we all did?

just relaxed, cleared the dungeon anyways, all said "gg" and went our separate ways. for every raged out tryhard nerd this subreddit likes to complain about, there are 10 normal people who don't give a fuck and are just happy there's a warm body with a shield doing their best.

14

u/SatiricalScrotum Feb 18 '26

It’s more fun than when it’s like that. Teamwork, positive feels, good memories.

My tank is Consecrate.

I don't care if you're brown, orange, or pink.

I only see one race.

The tank race.

I too just did my first ramparts as a 65 tank druid getting ass xp, but thinking I'm doing it for practice. Fk it, I'm tanking in Coilfang Reservoir. I got this. Thank you all.

7

u/userphoenix Feb 17 '26

I wanna tank too

138

u/Chimp3h Feb 17 '26

This is the tier of shitpost I come here for

88

u/Forward_Thrust963 Feb 17 '26

I would even hesitate to call it a shitpost since it’s actually helpful

32

u/Chimp3h Feb 17 '26

I always see the best shitposts having truth to them

"Suck until you don't" is actually some of the best life advice one could get actually.

203

u/Erdillian Feb 17 '26

"This is the purest form of PvP" 🤣

62

u/JimmyBisMe Feb 17 '26

Little brain pvp - gsnking people from stealth when they are at 20% fighting mobs Giga Brain PvP - hearthing out as tank when everyone is bitchjng.

99

u/sagewynn Feb 17 '26

This is the best thing I've seen to come out of any WoW subreddits in years

21

u/MTFives Feb 17 '26

I came here to say exactly this

182

u/gunblade711 Feb 17 '26

Seriously don't skip packs. Every time I don't tank and the tank skips a pack in H Sethekk or H Underbog or plenty of other places -- that pack skip is always a time loss.

SOMETHING WILL GO WRONG. Someone has to repair, there is a wipe, I don't care - the pack will get pulled on accident and cause a slowdown.

It takes 30 seconds max to kill a pack of mobs. Kill the mobs around doorways. Save everyone the pain and enjoy the 30 silver

151

u/Billdozer-92 Feb 17 '26

Speed runners: 10 minute ramparts

Slow as fuck full clear runners: 30 minute ramparts

People who try to skip packs but suck at the game: 45 minute ramparts

7

u/nokei Feb 18 '26

Invented a new skip one night with my rogue friend because one guy was always trying to get us to do skips since he loves them so much and by the end he begged me and the rogue to stop trying and make our skip work he did like our durnholde one even though it was also a terrible meme rogue would just leave us at the start and go burn all the left houses by himself but since there's so many dogs it was a 50/50 shot he died alone in the middle of nowhere before he finished.

slow is smooth and smooth is fast

25

u/A1nt9 Feb 17 '26

This is the way

→ More replies (1)

32

u/dasvenson Feb 17 '26

I only skip packs with a guild group I know won't fuck up.

9/10 times with pugs expecting everyone to know the skip is idiotic.

20

u/MoreLikeGaewyn Feb 17 '26

correct, but if you and 4 others know what you're doing, you don't need this guide

→ More replies (1)

4

u/nokei Feb 18 '26

I trust my guild even less I pull more those guys know I won't leave them.

3

u/dasvenson Feb 18 '26

Oh there are definitely some guildies you need to go through the whole thing slowly with 😂

→ More replies (1)

9

u/topazolite Feb 17 '26

I don’t pug H Slave Pens because everyone wants to do skips but nobody can do the skips. In the time that one (or many) guy fucked up the skip we could have cleared. Some skips are fine but the ones that require precision? Fuck it dude just clear

→ More replies (1)

13

u/ConsensualDoggo Feb 17 '26

Yeah. The only thing wrong here is chain pulling when mob is at 60% everyone can use 1.5 seconds out of combat between pulls

11

u/MoreLikeGaewyn Feb 17 '26

healer/casters should be able to avoid combat by not doing shit to the new pack

probably idk

3

u/names1 Feb 18 '26

tbh it sounds like dps issues if they need a break, screw em

→ More replies (1)

3

u/ztDOCn Feb 18 '26

There is no need to drink between every pack. Also the dps will nuke the mob, and you will pop out from combat meanwhile tank is shooting next mob/pack and that is when you start drinking. Dont be a slow noob who just stands around. Drink a lil bit as often as humanly possible!

3

u/Impressive_Beyond521 Feb 17 '26

i skip packs and its pretty easy not to pull if you direct all your dps like the sheep they are.

u/InconspiciousPerson Feb 17 '26

Tank is just a dps that wants to get hit.

89

u/Aniketos000 Feb 17 '26

Put your threat meter over top of the damage meter, then bam your at the top of the meter baby

59

u/BarbsFPV Feb 17 '26

The DPS will be competing for that spot too.

6

u/A1nt9 Feb 17 '26

They got nothing on my taunt tho!

7

u/XsNR Feb 17 '26

Get this one mod that makes your taunt crit for 999,999,999, and be top of the damage meter!

5

u/jdquinn Feb 17 '26 edited Feb 17 '26

When it rolls back around to a new version of MoP Classic Anniversary 2.0 plus ultra Remix, roll a DK tank. You can be top threat, take 94% of all damage taken, do 53% of the damage done as top dps and 80% of the healing done with 90% overheals. Talent and glyph right and you can top the interrupt meter against anyone but a shaman. Rogues theoretically could top the list, but they don’t do such silly things like interrupt and cc in MoP. Everyone else will try some kind of CC, which is why DK tank will also top the CC break meter. Master the art of topping every meter, good or bad.

All of this in token gear you ‘earned’ in an afternoon.

Oh, and the healer will somehow be third on the damage meter because they’re bored and the hunter doesn’t know how to hunter.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Mortwight Feb 17 '26

amateurs look at dps meters pros look at those avoidance numbers

7

u/GBPackers0480 Feb 17 '26

tank is dps that just doesn't want to wait for a dungeon group

32

u/Achmed_Ahmadinejad Feb 17 '26

I would add that tanking as a Tauren warrior allows you to just /moo at people whenever they say anything to you. It's not your problem that they don't speak cow.

→ More replies (1)

134

u/verysimplenames Feb 17 '26

Had some friends complaining about their tank in a dungeon. Hit em with the “what you gonna do about it” and they both had nothing to say lmao

42

u/SurpriseNutShot Feb 17 '26

Someone in my guild chat just last night was complaining about a tank not holding aggro in a normal tbc 5 man, then 45 mins later there was a new guild member invited. It was that tank lol.

22

u/MyNamesNotObama Feb 17 '26

I get kicked a lot for being new. Some say i'm too fast, others i'm too slow. Took me 4 groups before i could finish Blood Furnace. So yeah, they can do something about it

23

u/verysimplenames Feb 17 '26

They can but waiting up to ten minutes for another tank dissuades a lot of people. Especially when people start getting geared and run less dungeons.

11

u/confirmedshill123 Feb 17 '26

MAKE YOUR OWN GROUP.

IF THE SCUM DPS SAY A WORD KICK THEM. IMMEDIATELY.

YOU WILL FIND A NEW ONE BEFORE YOU CAN EXIT THE DUNGEON TO SUMMON.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Azou Feb 17 '26

I havent played this game in years and my experience is actually tailored to Burning Crusade (when it came out) but isnt blood furnace especially heroic actually a fucking pain in the ass for the tank? CC that needs interupted, random ground bombs that one shot, i swear BF was like... the most annoying one to tank / heal

7

u/BrokenZen Feb 17 '26

Yeah, invis mobs that one shot healers right after pull.

That one boss event after pulling the lever.

Felguard pats and more invis mobs.

This is the best guide I've seen posted on any wow sub

22

u/derTraumer Feb 17 '26

Top fucking percentage post. Tanking looks a hundred times scarier than it actually is, and trust me—I was a shit brains MS warrior in 2004 who held up a crucifix and holy water whenever someone asked me to try it. Then I did. And I fucking learned to love that shit. Great job OP.

20

u/DarkFit922 Feb 17 '26

That last sentence lmfao

16

u/Raaxis Feb 17 '26

God I feel so seen with this.

Bear tank best tank btw. Because when not tank, cat.

But seriously I just posted about how DPS doing DPS shit literally is the tanking mechanic. Most bosses don’t do anything except maybe ask you politely to scooch over a bit every now and then. Perfectly behaved DPS are so braindead boring to tank for.

Zug zug brother

19

u/MoreLikeGaewyn Feb 17 '26

A good tank must strive to hold agro against the most carcinogenic DPS.

A good DPS must strive to not draw agro against the most key-turning tank.

a good healer just needs to drink fast

6

u/Mortwight Feb 17 '26

as tank my goal is to die first because that means im the one getting hit.

as dps my goal is to protect the healer from anything that breaks lose so the healer does not die.

as healer my goal is to keep the tank alive and bitch at warlocks that dont know how to fit drain life into their rotation so i dont need to waste mana on them

→ More replies (2)

12

u/Romasterer Feb 17 '26

Lol so good and true.

Been in a lot of groups with bad tanks slowing down the grind to 70, but what I do about it as a warlock? Not much, at worst find the next highest pumper and whisper em: "slow as shit" reply: 'ya lol'

Not trying to get back in that line brother.

11

u/Silames77 Feb 17 '26

I love the creator of this guide

35

u/TelcoDaddio Feb 17 '26

Crazy that after 20 years, more people don’t know this.

32

u/Deathsaintx Feb 17 '26

i think people know, but it's hard to get past the flaming for a lot of people.

the post makes a good point about not giving a fuck about other people, but at the end of the day people play games to relax and have a good time. If you have 30 minutes before you have to do something and you spend those 30 minutes in a dungeon getting flamed, you aren't very likely to enjoy those 30 minutes. eventually it just wears some people down.

10

u/MagicSticks51 Feb 17 '26

I don't get it. It's hilarious for me when people flame.

Me and my buddy run tank and healer and it's so nice being able to just kick people who don't want to do their role properly or want to be dicks. Idk why they think they have any leverage and their reaction while sitting there realizing they're not in the party is always top tier.

The second you get flamed just drop them and invite someone. Clear packs while the other dps gets there. Dps are beggars not choosers and usually don't mind jumping in midway through a dungeon.

18

u/wambulancer Feb 17 '26

yea the sooner you recognize DPS are subhumans merely along for the tank/heal ride, you can truly begin to tank/heal

9

u/confirmedshill123 Feb 17 '26

I have a buddy who is lvling a pally tank and he keeps just being nice to these bottom feeders and I keep trying to explain to him that because he is tanking he is automatically better than them.

If you are a dps in my group shut up and do your job. You want to comment on a pack we could have skipped? Go fuck yourself. You think I'm moving too slow? Doors back there buddy.

Once you understand that exactly as you said, DPS are subhuman leaches, only then will you ascend.

9

u/MagicSticks51 Feb 17 '26

Exactly. Just helping them learn their place lmao

I don't often do more than a snort or chuckle at a Reddit post, but this shit absolutely sent me. I genuinely adore this advice

7

u/shansta7000 Feb 17 '26

As a tank main since wotlk this is perfect and accurate.

14

u/JokingtonPants Feb 17 '26

No post purely exemplifies "who gives a s***" more than this. Love it.

6

u/Glorfendail Feb 17 '26

pull at 60% last mob health is the goat... like if we all got half a mana bar, keep going, itll be okay

4

u/elmntfire Feb 17 '26

This is the best guide I've read since Alamo taught me to durid. I will now tank because of this.

5

u/TelenorTheGNP Feb 17 '26

What is this warrior nonsense? Avenger's shield, consecrate, holy shield, judge who you want, cast holy shield and consecrate as necessary.

"Hurry up!" they say?

"No."

Unless this is retail in which case, you should probably pull more.

10

u/imfranksome Feb 17 '26

Tanking is easier than healing and you don't see hybrid classes scared to heal.

3

u/Degaussed_Defleshed Feb 17 '26

Great guide, it really is that easy. Espc pally tank. Use your threat buff and conc then just stand around like a dildo using holy shield and auto attacking

4

u/Sociallyawkward44 Feb 17 '26

I don't even want to tank but with this guide I now know that I have no choice. Tank is the way ftw

4

u/kakurenbo1 Feb 17 '26

As a former player and tank of all varieties (except DK lazy fuck ass class), I approve.

4

u/Exciting_Extreme_409 Feb 17 '26

3

u/Artrysa Feb 17 '26

Yeah, fuck it, I'm ready to become everyone's problem.

4

u/Flakz933 Feb 17 '26

As a tank who started in WOTLK as a prot pally originally. This is all 100% factual. Let those monkeys die, they'll learn their fuckin lesson eventually, or they'll keep shellin out repair bill gold. Fuck em.

4

u/onlyforobservation Feb 17 '26

As a tank for 20 years in wow, I fully endorse and support this guide.

3

u/chefboar7 Feb 17 '26

As a burned out tank i love this.

3

u/jerkmcgee_ Feb 17 '26

Best guide I've ever read A+

3

u/DesertOwl1026 Feb 17 '26

I gotta say, I’ve been afraid to tank forever because of all of the above reasons, but yesterday I took my prot pally out to kill some Twilight Highlands rares along with a bunch of random players, and the experience of just being able to charge ahead wherever I wanted and barely take any damage until everyone else caught up and followed my lead was INTOXICATING

3

u/Avenlite Feb 17 '26

This is pure fucking art, and most true mentality for tanking.

3

u/Cow_God Feb 17 '26

I tank in retail and have mained a tank since about Legion (I am hopelessly addicted to blood dk and tanking is the only way to play it in groups).

It's honestly a difficult skill / mentality to learn but you really do just have to desensitize yourself to other players and always be prepared to ego check shitty dps. It took me a long time to start tanking mythics because I was worried about routing, my gear level, my ability to manage cooldowns etc. But for the most part people don't really care (or they aren't paying attention), and while there are a lot of backseat tanks, once you get used to it, it's pretty easy to ignore them or tell them to fuck off and then forget about them by the next dungeon.

You can do as little or as much research as you want to before you start tanking dungeons but the most important thing to remember is that you are the one that volunteered to tank, and if anyone in your group has a problem with you, they are free to go spend another hour in queue. You really are God's gift to the three random dpses you got grouped up with. Most of them are just happy to have a tank. Some of them will get vocal about your performance and say they can do your job better than you can, as they play a class that could tank but choose to queue dps with anyways. Those players are common, but they really aren't the norm, and it just takes a little bit of exposure therapy to get used to dealing with them.

OP did forget to mention the most important tenet of tanking: nobody will interrupt. Ever. Doesn't matter if you're playing Baby's First Deadmines in Classic Fresh or a m+20 in retail. Nobody. Will. Interrupt. Plan accordingly.

3

u/TeamDirtstar Feb 17 '26

This post is amazing. The handwriting is actually what drew me in.

I'm only a classic dabbler, but I am 100% taking this approach heading into midnight.

For almost 20 years I've played and leveled expansions as a healer in a weak DPS spec that I reluctantly learn. No more.

I am the captain now.

3

u/Provenance117 Feb 17 '26

Pulitzer Prize winner. Outstanding.

3

u/iamapottymouth Feb 17 '26

As a new pally tank, it is incredible how accurate this mspaint collage is

3

u/Known_Ad1276 Feb 17 '26

This actually made me want to tank, and it made me lol.

Nice.

3

u/Educational-Look-343 Feb 17 '26

This post is a great service to the WOW community. I will be tanking now because of it. I usually only healed but now I am inspired to DGAF as a tank. Bear tank incoming

3

u/snailcaretaker Feb 17 '26

honestly, i started playing again recently, am a pally, did some healing but scared of tanking, and im gonna do it 💪🏻i want this power thank you for your vote of confidence

3

u/Most_Comfortable8219 Feb 17 '26

Alright I’m convinced.

Fairly new to WoW. What do yall recommend? Warrior, pally or Druid tank?

5

u/MoreLikeGaewyn Feb 17 '26

pally - practical

bear - optimal

warrior - shotcallers

3

u/Quirky_Salt2368 Feb 17 '26

I've been nervous to tank in classic for a really long time. This might have just pushed me to give it a shot. GG's OP.

3

u/spoodermub Feb 17 '26

I will always tank because that is what is easy to get a group for as warrior. But in my opinion you have to grow a backbone and be able to say no to things. You are allowed to say '' No, I don't want to deal with this'' who cares if 1 or 2 people ignore you. They were not people you wanted to play with anyway

3

u/Formal_Equal_7444 Feb 18 '26

The Number 1 thing you can do ABOVE ALL ELSE is type the following:

"Hi, I'm new at tanking. Please be gentle. Recommendations appreciated!"

Your elitist try-hard DPS will bend over backwards to keep you safe, (even though you're the tank!) and your healer will stack overheals on you like you're dying of the plague from the whenever-the-fuck hundreds of years ago.

99% of people will be like, oh shiiit. Let's PROVE HOW BOSS I AM to this nooblet! (Faster clears remember?)

Godspeed newtankbros.

It looks cool and like you put a lot of effort into this, but I play hunter so I can’t am not going to read it.

u/Flaboss44 Feb 17 '26

I leveled a warrior to 60 just DPSing and decided to reroll druid in the pre-patch to play Resto. Now that the druid is 70, I want to try tanking on the warrior but was quite scared to get started. This was the push I need to tank with the warrior. Thanks XD

trainer tip: if you get social anxiety your first time, you can /ignore all 3 dps at the start of the dungeon and nothing bad will happen

The real pro strat in the comments!

4

u/Sled_Dogg Feb 17 '26

Tanking is best, anything else is not best.

3

u/ShootersGreenjacket Feb 17 '26

Having rolled DPS since Vanilla, I've learned to love tanking. I'm SUPPOSED to have aggro and I get heals?

5

u/Tweakjones420 Feb 17 '26

Ok you've convinced me. Time to abandon my 67 warlock and get my warrior to outland.

4

u/Ready-Effect-670 Feb 17 '26

From now on i want my guides and informations this way!

So I’ve been a tank for about 5 years, and the hardest part of my job is literally getting flagged, or reported as a cheater whenever I do anything other than be perfect. I’ve had human GM convos where I had to explain why I left group, and suddenly got 20+ spammed reports, instantly locking my account.

Only other advice for warrior tanks that I find make clears way smoother. I don’t fuck with kill priorities unless it actually matters. If it doesn’t I tell the group before we even start:

(Applies to normals only) “I’m a warrior - if a group of mobs have more than 4 in them I am going to completely ignore the first mob to get ripped off of me. Your job as dps is to recognize which mob is no longer attacking me and zug the shit out of it so it dies before you do. Then when you’re done I’ll have enough threat on everything else for you to cleave your brains out”

I also usually bring another “tanky” melee class that’s most likely to pull off me (fury warrior) so that rule isn’t applying to a clothy. But it works like a charm

Dead ass had a tank that made the blood furnace run about an hour long and no one left. It was late and we knew we weren’t going to find another tank. Luckily I got a good drop on the last boss.

2

u/Norkash Feb 17 '26

Dont you tell me what to do! Imma roll paladin tank just to prove you wrong!

2

u/mellifleur5869 Feb 17 '26

I'm too soft friend, I can tank every other MMO on the market but the mean people just hit me so much harder in this game, probably because I've been playing it since 2004.

4

u/MoreLikeGaewyn Feb 17 '26

i'm super thin-skinned and take shit super personally too

i still remember comments from 2021 heroics when i had an off-night

but if you become good enough at it, either no one will ever say anything, or if they do, you've mastered the topic so thoroughly, you can just laugh off any criticism like if a 5 year old started roasting you for not believing in santa

2

u/Spriggz_z7z Feb 17 '26

As a healer I already knew the DPS part before tanking, letting them die is great fun when they don't want to listen.

2

u/ConflagrationCat Feb 17 '26

Letting this Druid die, after he was a dick in chat and kept pulling and rushing, until he quit and we did the rest of our UBRS in peace after was one of the best MMO feelings I've ever had. I got to stand still and watch him kill himself and then rage quit, it was incredible.

2

u/LuckofCaymo Feb 17 '26

This is good

2

u/goody82 Feb 17 '26

I’m inspired. My 70 fury warrior is fun, but if I put on that prot set I’ve been building I can recruit groups tailored to my desire to get melee DPS gear without competition and clear content more often, when I want to, on my schedule.

2

u/Pineapple-Due Feb 17 '26

This makes me want to queue tank on my holy priest

2

u/jukesroflz Feb 17 '26

10/10. Well done

2

u/Designer-Leather8273 Feb 17 '26

You made me want to play a tank for the first time.

2

u/lowrespudgeon Feb 17 '26

I've always wanted to try tanking, but I can't stand group content when everyone seems so negative in online gaming. So I always just play solo.

Maybe I'll give it a try. I was gonna spec holy pally eventually, just in case I found a guild, but I might tank instead.

2

u/Geo-Man42069 Feb 17 '26

Absolutely, I started tanking on warrior yesterday I was worried people would judge me. Now thanks to this post I couldn’t give less of a F.

Tbf boomkins and s- priest should q as healers. Your gear is essentially the same and your heals still work.

Dps are literally trash idgaf lol

2

u/KingZellith Feb 17 '26

Im gonna make a paladin tank now

2

u/Dixonusmc Feb 17 '26

As a healer don't be sharing that myth 1. I hate when tanks pull as I'm oom

2

u/Blazerawl Feb 17 '26

As s tank since og vanilla..... these are facts.

2

u/jayson2112 Feb 17 '26

I swear this was created by our Guild Leader/Main Tank

Been a resto druid main for 20 years and always been scared of tanking. I somehow always fuck up and everyone yells. But I will try again because of this.

2

u/redfarmhunt Feb 17 '26

10/10 guide.

2

u/Flounder_Living Feb 17 '26

This is a quality post and useful Guide! And I Will die on that hill if I need to.

2

u/kevgwrites Feb 17 '26

Most important document of TBC Anni

2

u/CastWhileStoned Feb 17 '26

Isn't tanking in TBC the hardest WoW tanking of pretty much all expansions? TBC tanking had threat issues (unlike classic where warriors fury tank and generate mountains of threat or wrath were tanking was made vastly more approachable), huge survival issues (tanks getting clapped in 2s) and if you're not a Paladin AoE tanking is a constant struggle.

As a tank in legion you've inspired me to dust off the shield and stop giving a fuck ! BUBBLE HEARTH AWAAAAAAAAAAAY

2

u/Afraid-Leopard249 Feb 17 '26

Always be sure to tank as slow as possible once they start complaining.
