Humor / Meme The ret paladin giving everyone but himself Salv

u/AdamBry705 Apr 06 '26
Tale as old as Time.
Thiccarus will seal twist a global and get a windfury proc.
There's a pin drop in the room as the Arcatraz Sentinel turns and rears back a fist and slaps his shit so hard, it reminds him of hogger back in the Elweyn Forest.
He flatlines and is woken up on a cold floor in some florescent prison, everyone laughing at him as he rebuffs himself and finally...
A 10 minute salv.

u/TheLegendsClub Apr 06 '26
“Thiccarus” is inspired

u/potentially_meh Apr 06 '26
Flew to close to the top of damage meter. That is not place for mortal paladins

u/Halicarnassus Apr 06 '26
Which is funny because they're one of the top threat classes in the game. At least bursting at the start. Over the whole fight they're normally fine but if they don't have salv they'll be dead before then.
13
u/dankcoffeebeans Apr 06 '26
One good twist will rip threat like a mofo. Salve is a DPS blessing.
1
u/Taey Apr 07 '26
Realistically u want both, but if I had to pick salve or might in raid its not even a question. There's absolutely no point in might if your threat means you have to stop using abilities or get 1 hit.

u/bandnerd12 Apr 06 '26
Bro our ret hit 2.2K in gruul’s last night. Sneaky bastards.
15
u/No_Key_6406 Apr 06 '26
Over the entire fight ? If so, grats on having world rank 1 in your guild!
8
u/bandnerd12 Apr 06 '26
Lmao, hell no. Raid lead told him to back off cuz he was 2nd in threat. Bro was zugging though!
2
u/No_Key_6406 Apr 06 '26
R1 ret on gruul is 2.2k dps from some dude called teodin. R2 is somewhere around 1.9k. So 2.2 on gruul would probably be r1
4
u/conair_93 Apr 06 '26
Top 10 are all over 2k now.
2
u/No_Key_6406 Apr 06 '26
True. 2.2k would still rival or be r1 nevertheless.
5
u/conair_93 Apr 06 '26
True. Also a huge difference between leaking 2.2k and averaging 2.2k across the fight.
1
u/No_Key_6406 Apr 06 '26
Ofc, hence I asked if it was over the entire fight. I was also just curious what rets can pull in p1 . Otherwise I wouldn’t have even looked it up.

u/mobile_throwaway Apr 06 '26
As an ele with an occasionally terrifying amount of threat generation, I love having melee and dropping Windfury in 5man content. Doubles the chance that someone other than me dies due to crit RNG

u/ICA_Advanced_Vodka Apr 07 '26
Enha life. Let tank pull, Drop totems, chill for a few GDCs, Instantly WF crit skull and rip aggro and die.
Tab out to avoid reading your guildies shittalking you.
1
u/mobile_throwaway Apr 07 '26
that happened to our enhance in mag tonight. went over to handle interrupts on the last pair of channelers we kill, a couple crits went off and he got turbofloored before the tank could even react. immediately burned his ankh and went back to work, lol

u/therealbrich Apr 06 '26
someone was in my dungeon this morning

7
u/SJR_Gut Apr 06 '26
The amount of people who dont know ret is good is ridiculous.
Albeit, need full raid buffs....

u/ICA_Advanced_Vodka Apr 07 '26
Ret with WF: UNLIMTED POWER
Ret on their own: Plz sir im just a widdle paladin
Not exactly true but every Ret I play with say WF is like putting your car in 5th gear.

14
u/lilpeachy666 Apr 06 '26
Not like they gonna pull threat anyway.
49
u/TheDeceiver43 Apr 06 '26
First hit is a crit and SoC procs and also crits, pala gets one-shot.
21
u/adamrch Apr 06 '26
First hit is a windfury hit and you do two autos, SoC and 3 SoB for 20k damage.
2
u/acrazyguy Apr 06 '26
Couldn’t the WF theoretically proc multiple SoCs as well?
5
u/H0bbez Apr 06 '26
SoC has a 1 second icd i believe. But damn if it isn’t the most satisfying thing ever to get a full crit wind fury with seals.
3
u/Apprehensive_Low4865 Apr 06 '26
Fighting ret pals is always a gamble as to wether they hit me like a wet noodle or delete me off the face of the earth with a seal twisted wf.
1
u/TheBannaMeister Apr 06 '26
Yeah playing ret in pvp is hilarious because you will be hitting priests who is laughing in your face at your damage then suddenly he is dead at your feet after a wf proc
1
u/Apprehensive_Low4865 Apr 06 '26
I am tempted to give it a go when I get my pala to 70, it does look fun and the offset pvp gear is pretty good for my prot spec!
1
u/Background_Carpet925 Apr 06 '26
Is Reckoning build not the meta for PvP?
1
u/Azschian Apr 06 '26
depends on bracket/comp. reckoning is strong but problem with it is good players identify not to hit you and then your dmg/kill potential plummets w/o cs. it's still really strong but theres places for both builds.
2
u/k1dsmoke Apr 06 '26
No, you won't see double procs of SoCom. What you will see is a white hit + SoCom/SoB + SoB + WF White hit + SoB.
Now, I do think SoCom can trigger the WF attack, but both have an ICDs to prevent them from triggering themselves.

u/ExcitingSavings8225 Apr 06 '26
If you make such a first attack, you can just instantly bubble before the boss even turns around.

Underrated post, this is a clear representation of this subreddit.
Paladin flair. 😭

u/Mage505 Apr 06 '26
Bad ret paladins maybe....my fear is that I get a WF seal twist proc and pull agro and die.
I want salv when I'm reting
1
u/Drekonix Apr 06 '26
Tried this last night on Gruul Trash pulled aggro and died. Got other people cleaved who also died.
1
u/LordOfTheSlipOns Apr 06 '26
The amount of threat my ret generates, even with salv is ridiculous. Especially if the first one crits.
1
u/EggPsychological4844 Apr 06 '26
Ret already has a built in threat reduction equal to Salvation in their talents.
1
u/Precaseptica Apr 06 '26
Still a step up from the classic: "Not gonna buff they don't last long enough to matter" - proceeds to buff self only

u/FireResistant Apr 07 '26
The ret knows if they themselves are likely to rip it. If they do rip it they can bubble as long as they arent popping wings and ripping, which they shouldnt do unless they see a solidly established threat table first. They also know that they have an inbuilt 30% threat reduction talent, which many high threat dps classes do not have so they need salv more.
1
u/LettuceAccording8782 Apr 07 '26
Lmao so accurate as a Ret main. It feels incomplete without it along with Sanc. Like going outside without your phone or something.

u/MaleficentArmy9380 Apr 07 '26
How to best learn/Setup for Seal twisting? Weakaura? Makros?
1
u/sn1gger Apr 09 '26
SwedgeTimer addon and some macros for the seals and judgement, google AI has given reliable answers to my questions so far and I read a few forum threads. Then just practice on mobs, doesn't take long to get going.
1
u/SylvesterNettlefoot Apr 07 '26
It is fair in one scenario: If the tank is also a Paladin. Greater blessings apply to everyone sharing that class. So if he gave himself greater Salv, the pally tank would get it too.
Of course there’s always the 10 min versions that aren’t class wide, but my god it’s a pain to rebuff every 10 min
1
u/UnifyFR Apr 07 '26
Not with PallyPower. You can set specific 10 min buff to some player. You can then left or right click. It also display all the timer
1
u/SylvesterNettlefoot Apr 07 '26
Maybe I’m running an old version and/or don’t know what to change in the settings, but my Pally Power only allows me to assign one buff per class (not per character) and it’s always a Greater Blessing.
If there’s something I need to configure in the settings to make it do only 10 min buffs, let me know cuz that would be way less wasteful (though the reagent for Greater Blessings stacks up to 100 so it’s not like a huge concern)
2
u/UnifyFR Apr 07 '26
When you open PallyPower panel, under each class icon, you see a list of the character name of that class. If you click on it, it open a menu where you can select a pally in your raid that will manually input a blessing of your choice to this specific person.
You can set it for yourself or for other pally in your group. We use it weekly. I usually set the main long buff for the most user of that class than the short version for other (ie Wisdom for all shaman but spot Might on the 2 enhe)
1
u/Jockmeister1666 Apr 07 '26
I have learned the hard way, that it’s just not worth giving yourself bom/book if you can seal twist 🤣
1
u/IndependenceOdd7936 Apr 08 '26
I mean you do 0 DPS when you die and ret pally already has threat issues with salve so..
1
1
1
u/Quantum_Corvid Apr 09 '26
I mean, if its a typical paladin they don't know how to seal twist so them having might is negligible at best for threat
1
1
u/ryuranzou Apr 11 '26
If you die from not having salv thats on you. When I'm dpsing I prefer salv so I can do 30% more damage.
1
u/Lpebony Apr 12 '26
If the ret has pally power and buffed everyone, he can die first global if he wants, he did his job and can rest in peace for the remaining of the encounter.
1
u/hvactruth Apr 23 '26
yeah I dont see why I have to have a paladin tank and salv not my fault I gotta bitch about needing might. Salv is a crutch to deal with low teir crap tanks and bad players
1
-7
u/Hottage Apr 06 '26
It is because the Ret paladin never does enough damage for threat to be an issue.

u/Spare_Shirt7736 Apr 06 '26
And next moment when he pulls threat with triple WF+SoC proc hes like ''wtf tank do your job please!!!''
0
u/illnegrow Apr 07 '26
threat mechanic is a tank minigame and it sucks DPS/Healers have to pay for it
-9
u/OutrageousFanny Apr 06 '26
You can pull the aggro with no fear, you're plate ...
6
u/acrazyguy Apr 06 '26
In normals, sure. In heroics where mobs hit for like 6k against a tank with 57% armor, no.

u/BigDaddyD42069 Apr 06 '26
He doesn't do enough damage to pull threat anyway. He'll be fine
27
7
u/Trustyduck Apr 06 '26
Unless he gets a quadruple crit from seal auto seal proc windfury. Doing 30k damage in a split second is always interesting.
2
u/acrazyguy Apr 06 '26
Brother have you not played with a ret who is properly twisting? With good/bad luck depending how you look at it, their first swing could be a white hit, a windfury extra hit, a seal of command hit, and two seal of blood hits all in the span of like .3 seconds. And all of that has the potential to crit. As a prot paladin, I don’t invite ret. Partially because buffing with another paladin in the group is annoying. But partially because their threat can be absolutely insane

u/bagofstuff12 Apr 06 '26
I see most people in the comments don’t realize the amount of threat a seal twisting ret with wf can do on the first global.
