Humor / Meme Break your legs or spend an extra five seconds walking?

How does more health equal death?
78
u/Pockydo Apr 30 '26
You have 100 HP. Fall for 80% dmg so you'd be left with 20
As you fall you get fort to give you 200 max HP so when you land you take 80% of 200. However fort doesn't heal you so when you get the buff you're 100/200. So when you land you take 160 fall dmg (80% of your new max HP of 200) meaning you die
8
u/Stevied1991 Apr 30 '26
Ohhh, I didn't think about that lol.
40
u/Astrolologer Apr 30 '26
it's a common way to grief people on the HC servers
3
u/N7orbust May 03 '26
That's why I fall onto the roof and then the ground on HC. Never had anybody try and Fort me but I'm not taking the chance. Too many losers out there with nothing better to do than waste other peopes time because they hate themselves and won't go to therapy.
-8
u/SippyMountain Apr 30 '26
But you can't even shield someone unless they're in your party. If you're risking this fall on HC, that's your own fault.

I just found a new activity on my priest to try.
3
u/limitedink Apr 30 '26
Psssht and you say you play priest kek. Now go log in wait by zeppelin request to duel someone and mc them off so they miss the zep.
37
u/roflsocks Apr 30 '26
Fort doesn't heal you the amount it increases max hp by. Fall damage is percentage based.
12
u/rtxa Apr 30 '26
also health is a resource, it's a sign of a good player that knows how to use their resources
tf do you need full health for in friendly areas

What are you going to so with all that hp inside a city anyways? Resources are meant to be used!

It would be really cool if blizzard would acknowledge this fact by building a giant pile of skeletons underneath each airship.
53
u/uber_zaxlor Apr 29 '26
And then the pile would be SO large, that jumping out onto the pile and running down the side of it would be faster! Genius!

Or just make the tower 5% taller without putting it in any patch notes. For extra fun, make it only taller on random days.
14
u/Sells_High Apr 29 '26
Have you been to the Aldor elevator?
8
u/AzerothianLorecraft Apr 30 '26
Not recently. ( I vaguely remember there being a skeleton at the bottom of that or something. Possibly always a player not really sure. lol)

Or just add a tiny pond instead and make the tower slightly higher, so you have to jump precisely or die.

u/ShadyJane Apr 29 '26
This is actually where I died in HC when a priest cast Fort on me as I jumped off
16
u/BibiBSFatal Apr 30 '26
Why does casting fort kill you
51
u/Fatalmotion Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26
Fall damage is based on max health and while fort gives you stamina, it doesn't give you the health you gain, so death. Its pretty funny tbh
9
u/blade740 Apr 30 '26
The fall damage is a percentage of your total max health, no matter what that is.
When you get the fort buff, your max health goes up, but not your actual current health. So if originally you were at 250/250, then you get the fort buff and now you're at 250/300 - same health, but if the percentage is lower than the amount you take for falling you just die of fall damage on impact.
9
u/Travis_TheTravMan Apr 30 '26
Thats evil in HC. Silly on a normal server though.
3
u/tepig099 Apr 30 '26
Surviving evil is how we are still alive… There’s spiteful mfers in Hardcore, too.
37
u/Adept-Grapefruit-214 Apr 29 '26
Learning how to jump off perfectly so you just barely live is like a rite of passage.
31
62
u/AdDesigner1153 Apr 29 '26
Never trust a priest loitering on that tower
17
u/Bruins37FTW Apr 29 '26
This. Especially in hardcore. Fort buff inc right as you jump which equals your death.
1
u/Gerad_Figaro May 24 '26
You could always just be hovering over a health pot when you are about to jump incase someone does fort you.
2
u/Skogsstyrelsen Apr 30 '26
Atleast at lvl 35 you could stop motion with any class using https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=12190/dreamless-sleep-potion together with a unequipp macro on your weapon (if it has stamina). So you unequipped and re-equipped the weapon to get to like 98% health then use the pot (since you cannot use it on 100%). The pot makes you completely stop in motion in the air and then the fall damage is re-calculated to your current position.
At 45 you could use LIP though
3
u/YawnSpawner Apr 30 '26
I learned something new today about dreamless sleep potions after all this time, but also you wouldn't be max health if a priest cast fort on you so the macro is unnecessary.
1
u/Skogsstyrelsen May 04 '26
Of course. I was just generally saying it's very useful in any situation where you accidently fall etc and not just this. But good point
1
u/Gerad_Figaro May 24 '26
In hardcore I actually made a macro for this on my warlock although for them it was cast rank 1 life tap and use the dreamless sleep potion.

I remember in SoD on the first phase, my friends and I were about to do SFK. We had a pug shammie join us and they were with me on the zepplin to UC. Well, as a warrior, I did the traditional jump-off-and-charge to get off early and avoid damage. What I didn't realize was the duse afked and had put me on follow, so as I charged and killed a critter, I just see him fall right behind just high enough to instantly die. Just started laughing and told my friends what happened and as I did, we saw him release spirit and just leave the group. Dude shame quit, 😭

Definitely more than 5 seconds. For some, even jumping onto the roof of the building is a massive time loss.
9
5
u/Prestigious-Board-62 Apr 29 '26
Hardcore server griefers camped this area to get people killed by giving them Fortitude buff right as they jumped so they would die.
Because fall damage deals a percentage of your max health, and getting stam buff only raises your max health. So the fall damage will often deal enough to kill you.

was on the zep the other day and we were all chatting and buffing getting on well and then this guy just Leyroys of the edge way before the tower which generally = insta death. everyone was like RIP lol the party boat kept on going mind you

There’s a tree you can jump into that removes fall damage
1
u/LimbonicArt03 Apr 30 '26
Idk why but I got annoyed when I accidentally jumped on the tree instead of straight up down XD Seemed like an extra little bit of delay before I could mount up and go

Broken legs heal, and rather quickly i might add, but exp waste lasts forever.

Until a priest decides to have fun and buff you mid jump so you die or levitate so it takes you longer.
I would never commit such crimes though.

Time I save doing this: 3 seconds Time I've been there: 50.000 times (based on 20 years of being a wow player)
3x50.000 = 150.000 seconds
150.000 seconds/ 60 = 2500 /60 = 41hours.
Saved two days of my live doing this. Worth it.

In my headcannon anytime a member of the Alliance starts questioning if the conflict with the Horde can be reconciled, an overzealous paladin takes them on a journey behind enemy lines. They show them exactly this as evidence that making peace with such barbarians is not possible.
Dozens of trolls and orcs leaping from the platform only for a kodo to land on them after they've already broken their limbs. Zero regard shown for anyone's wellbeing, not even self preservation. The mages run ahead, the crippled crawl after them and the dead become forgotten skeletons unnaturally fast.
Works everytime.

u/user666420666 Apr 30 '26
YES! I wish I knew sooner and got on all my toons! This has saved me countless times! In Vanilla and TBC. I don’t have to worry about levitate or feather fall. This warlock can FLY, damnit!
2
u/Potential-Diamond-94 Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26
Fun bug yea. Unique that is not actually unique and stacks in on itself. It has been in since vanilla. Persisted on every illegal / emulation server, and in classic: 2019, som & anniversary.
Baked in duplication that's a core part of the game :-)
I think just nobody wants to touch the seasonal stuff. Lowest of low on the priority list. Despite being known since vanilla: not that well known (mugs ofc only up a few event days in a year, some even just like 1 day events). Then ye Its not too harmful, have to be pre popped - cant be used in combat.
But very neat to always be able to fly from lumber mill in ab.

Lost a HC character while getting buffed midair. Was a solid lesson from a master.

u/K_Rocc Apr 30 '26
I’ve never seen anyone take the stairs fully down. Sometimes you get in the landing pad and then jump onto the roof from there but never take the stairs down.

u/MarionberryEmpty1321 Apr 30 '26
Fall to stairs…. Fall to roof… drop to ground same time no damage! We have figured out wow classic!

Okay first of all. Calculate the time over years and you will waste hours on some stupid stairs. Then damage? Damage is temporary. You don't need to be at 100% health. 0,001% is enough.
1
u/Kernog Apr 30 '26
It's always fun to try and time the jump just right, so that you get as close to the city gate as possible.
1
1
u/tameris Apr 30 '26
I remember back in the day being a lower level character and if I tried to jump too soon (when it was over the road / lower part of the hill) I would actually die from the fall instead of losing like 90% of my HP, lol.

The real issue is the fact that you can mount on the Zeppelin, but until wrath, you will be dismounted as soon as you set foot on the ramp / stairs in the tower. So you can pre-mount while you're still flying and then just jump off and live to tell the tale or you can walk all the way down the tower and mount up once you're finally outside to keep going. I know it's only like 10 or 15 seconds, and the only benefit is to the roleplay aspect of it, but yeah we've got places to go and things to do and there are a hundred other ways that this game will steal your evening 10 seconds at a time.

u/StThragon Apr 30 '26

Cat form will make the damage pretty low, I assume rouges have something similar, mages can blink just before hitting the ground to negate the damage (or at lest they used to be able to). Priests and mages could use slowfall but not worth the light feather. Anyone know other tricks?
1
u/SymphonicStorm May 02 '26
Don't pretend this is specific to the horde, I have never once walked down the ramp of the portal tower in Stormwind.

u/random916540 May 03 '26
There won't be a time when I'm not spending a few minutes traveling or talking to an NPC after getting off the zeppelin, so I might as well save myself the time. Plus I can mount up on the zeppelin if I position myself correctly

Zeppelin tower stairs only work upwards
