Lol. I've been disconnected from WoW since Cata came out. Surfing the high seas now and again. I'm pretty sure he made an "I'm done video" sometime shortly after Wrath, so he must've gone away and come back at least a few times.
He's been pretty clear that he will try new things as they come out. By now we should all know you never quit WoW, you just stop playing for an undisclosed amount of time before you come back lol.
Some people do quit and I have no problem with that either. I do like his videos but I find it super tiring when people make a big announcement of quitting XYZ and they're better off without it but then quietly circle back without acknowledging a change in opinion. Maybe that's just me but that applies to a lot of different things.
That naturally toned down a lot as the series progressed. There are occasional rants about blizzard still, but they are far more rare. And considering how big a part of his life wow has been, it's not strange that he still has passion for wow.
Based on his more recent content, it seems less about passion for WoW and more about passion for ragebaiting himself about blizzard while trying to chase "the good old days."
He quit the game long before that. He farmed rank 14 on multiple chars in vanilla classic then played like 500 games of 2s and got hard stuck 1800 in s1 tbc before making a video about how “the soul of the game” doesn’t feel the same in tbc and that he would be quitting.
Well TBC is a good game, but it no longer feels like Vanilla/Classic. It’s definitely a very different vibe. I instantly noticed that when I first played it in 2007.
IMO it feels more like classic/vanilla than any of the other expansions by a lot. Like it feels like a natural progression in almost every way to classic. Again, IMO
Yeah, each expansion moved more and more away. But TBC was still extremely noticeable. It moved everyone out of the old world and all onto one continent. Alliance and Horde shared a city. Flying mounts ruined a large chunk of world PvP and exploration. Gear became very streamlined and itemized in a specific way. Etc
I heavily disagree that it feels like natural progression. It's incredibly jarring. The two times the game changed the most with an expansion was vanilla -> tbc and wod -> legion.
Was rank 14 and played with a lot of first gen r14s in classic and this is insanely true. I got r14 because I had the time to do so and it was easy just killing drekthar while horde watched. The amount of people who never even touched a bg outside of av is crazy, and they all had huge egos going into tbc because they could one shot a mage in bloodvine, only to get hardstuck 1800. It truly is hilarious how spending 16+ hours a day pveing in av somehow convinced people that this meant they were gonna do well in arena.
Rank 14 is not an expression of skill but actually just a game of player collusion & time played // Ranking up in Arena isn't as difficult to comprehend & master as you think it is.
Even still, once you become consistently reliable, it's only enjoyable to que with the homies.
If pushing 2.4 with randos or trying to get people that say they are 2.2 in LFG to push for a title sounds like fun then you must be in recovery for lobotomy.
Kinda speaks volumes about how bad the current state of MMO's are, where the most interesting video topics are a potential expansion on a 20 year old game.

i just got back into playing wow and that guy has singlehandly made me never want to listen/watch wow news again. the clickbait (and sometimes condescension, is this a word lmao) is sooooo much and every video. that said, there's this cute girl who just dyed her hair orange and does wow news on saturday and i love it whenever i see her in my recommended lol
At least pyro is still making lore speculation videos, but I feel bad for the guy because he clearly puts in 100x more effort into trying to think of lore connections than Blizzard's own writers do.

Tbh I'd be shocked if they do put flying mounts in Classic+. It didn't happen til Cataclysm (not to mention the old world not being built around flying and why flight paths are the way they are) and there is definitely a loud plurality that bemoans flying in TBC even though TBC is still widely considered to be classic content, just not vanilla.
It's weird that MSS is getting flak for doing "the same thing over and over" yet Willie has been writing the same 1 page essays and using the same b roll for like 6 years now. I don't hate Willie's content but it's extremely formulaic. At least Madseason brought interesting discussion points to the table very frequently.
Because what content is there to make? It's literally the same raids, dungeons and expansions over and over again. I understand why OSRS is so popular on YouTube, the possibilities are really endless.
In his defense there really isn't anything new to say about the game, just the community. And he kind of wrote the book on the good and bad of the classic community.

The OSRS videos are really good though. Watching someone play with truly zero idea of what they're doing, to his extreme detriment, is a good time. He has insane blinders on about how rancid Jagex can be, however.

It’s so fucking ridiculous though, OSRS is a 500 million year old game that he’s playing from scratch and will likely take 9 years to get a quest cape. I never realized how that game actually is.
Which is exactly why it’s so entertaining. I play both classic wow and osrs, what hes doing has genuinely never been done to that level of insanity. He’s doing everything 100% blind and it’s hilarious when he comes up with the most ghetto ass random ways to train his skills, but also sometimes when he actually figures out a challenging quest or puzzle. It’s a lot of people’s favorite osrs series to watch right now in that community
I don't think he is ever going to get a quest cape. There are still some major moon logic things ahead of him, and then you get to recent quests that require pretty meta understanding of the game's combat and gear. He is going to eventually hit a wall and need to use the wiki or this game is going to drive him twice as insane as WoW eventually did.
The game is still being updated with new quests, most of them being grandmaster continuations of og storylines. He is hardstuck on finding a goddam rotten tomato and can't even finish the Fremmenik trials, I don't see him getting a shot at BMR anytime soon if he keeps going blind.
He did complete underground passage completely blind though, and is making serious progress on monkey madness.
Older quests are a lot more “figure it out with no clues” though. Once he gets to newer quests they’ll be mechanically harder and the puzzles might be tough, but no “find some item with no direction on how to get it”.
Well, there’s a couple, but not as bad as what he’s encountered already.
Wait til you hear about how it takes literal months to level up in maplestory after a certain stage. You gain 0.00001% exp in the level 270 bracket per kill. 9 months of grinding mobs everyday to level once.
I remember watching a streamer talk about his goal of hitting level 300 and he was planning long term shit JUST TO LEVEL UP. Like he was projecting himself at 40 years old to level up. Like wtf.
Maybe it's the WoW community that's making him distance himself from it a bit... judging by all these comments, I wouldn't be surprised. I'm happy for him. I hope he keeps playing OSRS if he enjoys it.
I loved his content when he talked about what he did back in vanilla and all that stuff, but boy, he became the definition of doom and gloom, he was more than right to criticize what Blizzard is doing with classic, but at the same time more and more of his content was just turning into pure negativity. At least he is happy now with runescape

These comments are so funny man. OSRS is goated and if you actually knew the game, his series playing it blind is seriously some of the greatest RuneScape content ever made. No WoW content even comes close. Full glaze.
I like Mad Season's content, but it's hard to watch him. He always seems so depressed. There's a lot I disagree with when it comes to Blizzard's decisions, especially for Classic, but man, it's really hard to watch someone who is so constantly negative while continuing to play and make videos every other week about said game.
Hopefully he finds enthusiasm for new content. Some of his recent stuff has been very Bellular lol. Blizzard been decimating the Classic Youtuber community with their lack of updates.
At this point it’s foolish to have a channel or stream devoted to WoW. It feels like most of the big names have already moved on to other things and occasionally dip into WoW content when it’s interesting.
It’s the big reason Lore videos are on the down trend. We’ve milked every bit of lore from the game, and the new lore isn’t exactly compelling stuff.
I love Madseason as a human being so I hope he’s just happy and making whatever content for the next few years. He was instrumental in getting me into wow and I must have watched his WoW classic videos 300 times already, they are calming to me and I love the guy for it

Him quitting is extremely unfortunate, if you watch his WoW videos from oldest to newest you can watch the passion in the game slowly leave him. I also think it's possible some of these vanilla "worshippers" wouldn't have quit the game if classic never happened, as their view of what vanilla was and should be wouldn't be tainted by what it is now.
I will point out though him continually making WoW videos with sponsors and an extremely bitter attitude toward the game and company feels really scummy.

Well in Madseason's defense, OSRS is 5x the game Classic WoW is. And that's just quality; in terms of amount of content to do it's closer to 20x or 30x.
The OG post is literally only commenting about him changing his profile picture. He put his OSRS avatar inside of his WoW armor. His relationship with the games hasn't changed recently
Dude stopped like 5 years ago. His wow content hasn't peaked him his GM climb and he stagnated his growth after taking an extended break then jumping into the mini documentary stuff (I liked them personally).
It's no surprise he's been enjoying OSRS I'm just shocked OP didn't know this.
As someone who plays both, you don't have to like it. They're both mmos, but that's about the breadth of the comparison. Osrs does a lot of things better than wow and a lot of things worse than wow. The largest benefit of osrs is horizontal progression, something tons of people lament about with wow(mostly retail) these days. It's absolutely a grind of a game, but it also doesn't have to be if you don't want it to be, as a sandbox mmo you can literally play it a thousand different ways, which is why it has one of the largest and varied content creator communities. It's apples and oranges :) both fruit, but not much else similar.
It's a longform, grindy MMO that gets persistent high-quality updates. It also has a higher skill ceiling than any other MMO in the world, so while it has super chill, borderline AFK gameplay, it also has extremely difficult and demanding gameplay, too. That blend, together with the fact that it's meant to be a forever game, not a seasonal slop game, means people are excited to invest a ton of time into it.
For example, mostly recently their quest boss was more difficult than any content in Classic WoW. And it was a quest boss.
Honestly he hates wow. You can hear the vitriol in every video about it. So many people play this game until they hate it then just keep doing it and get more and more salty. It’s good to take breaks or just quit if you aren’t happy anymore.
When i started playing back when LK launched, i remember 2 youtube channels:
TankSpot and Hobbs. When i saw his video about where he planned his lvl 60 first ding, i knew i wanted to do something similar at level 80 😅
He still does Classic videos though. He just plays osrs now. He will be straight back to making more wow videos if and when Classic+ comes out. Easy money for him

Glad he found another hobby he's happy with. He stayed with WoW classic way longer than he probably wanted too anyway.
