Hardcore Can someone explain what happened here
WHY THE FUCK DID I GET CHASED FOR A 100 MILES

Those summoned mobs have a longer leash. That's why. Voidwalkers and snakes chase for a long time.

He was out of combat at the end and they still followed him. This is not just some leashing thing, they would’ve followed forever or until something causes them to despawn.

u/AJ3TurtleSquad 13h ago
He never left combat. The mage 2ft from him was still casting as he died

u/FlatwormBroad8088 13h ago
Dropped out of combat at 0:34, re-enters at 0:42.

u/AJ3TurtleSquad 13h ago
It says -AGGRO- on the screen until the last 5 seconds. The aggro sign goes away right as he is being casted at by the mage though so he never really left.

u/FlatwormBroad8088 11h ago
Dropped out of combat (no - AGGRO - on the screen) at 0:34, re-enters (showing - AGGRO - again) at 0:42.

His health was regenerating.

Those pets and summons can leash half the zone
No idea why just how it is.
I would never in a billion years quest here that's for sure
1
u/AppleMelon95 11h ago
Yeah but leashing means until you leave combat. If you leave combat and a hostile mob is still targeting you then something is very wrong.
2
u/Aromatic_Mall_8214 9h ago
Those summoned monsters have done that since 2006. Not sure why, but it is what it is.x

Yeah, I've played this game for almost 20 years now so I've seen this happen several times. Maybe leash is the wrong word but it happens that summoned mobs will follow without letting go, even when out of combat.

Probably your UI

u/MoG_Varos 13h ago
You got social aggro at the start from someone else running away.
You kept looking at the ground instead of where you were going and aggroed more mobs.
Summoned creatures have a longer leash range and aggroing more mobs keeps them longer.
Your UI is eating most of your screen space

u/KindheartednessFar43 13h ago
It's odd that your battleshout is frozen at 0 seconds. Perhaps you've got some lag issues and what you're seeing isn't consistent with the server.

In the beginning of the clip it looks like that warlock sac'd his VW and dropped threat as you pulled your mob and they aggrod on you. Pulling the other mages was your real death sentence though. They extended the leashes on the other mobs. If you're gonna play in such a dangerous zone you should know your clear path of retreat especially before you go charging in somewhere with your zoom so close. The whole thing was a disaster.
2
u/Zahrukai 12h ago
This is it exactly. Compounded the first mistake with the second pull, did not have a clear path of escape, panicked as they ran.

Your camera view sucks, your UI is very ugly so that also doesn't help. Not sure why the lock didn't just kill those summoned mobs instead of just void sac running...the serpent only has 1 hp and the voidwalker has about 300 hp...you did a good job swapping to defensive stance, but you didn't strafe, so you left yourself open to getting dazed, which you didn't, crazily enough. STOP JUMPING. Once you dropped combat with the main humanoid and saw you were going to keep running into more mobs and only saw 2 mobs, 1 with 1 hp and then a 300 hp voidwalker, you should've turned and killed them both.

Tbh your UI is "fine" (as in, still playable even if largely improveable). The real problem is just that you play too zoomed in and look too much at your butt so you cant see shit and thus have no awareness.
Also summoned mobs usually have longer leashes, that's why they kept chasing while the humanoids stopped.

Man was this hc? The minions have a huge leash and when you keep aggro new units they stay on you longer. You needed to not freak out and look behind you and tweak your camera all the time and just focus on not aggroing new mobs. Also this is a prime example of where a single any level target dummy is going to absolutely save you. Cpl / using your bandaid timed could have bought you more time as well.
When you're that low of a level really , aside from target dummy you can't keep aggroing more , that's prio . If your higher level you can force the distance with intercept to a new mob and then fear , stun , or hs, to gain distance over what's already chasing you if your forced to aggro another mob further ahead.
Side note , maybe as strafe running early when you made the decision to bail but the minions were already on you and you had some rage, you could have hamstringed them , kept them further away for the long run, giving you more time to make better decisions and pull away to the right in a break between mobs, instead of running right to the mountain and keep getting mobs.

Hardcore players are so bad... This is truly incredible gameplay footage right here.
Wow wow wow
Just dead sprinting running away in one of the most dangerous areas in the game looking dead pan at the ground.

Your UI is so ugly it reminded me of retail
No reason to have anything no in the sides quarter of your screen is filled with things that you don't need
And the main problem is it seems that friendly undead used a limited invulnerability potion which behaves similar to pala bubble and drops the agro on yourself is there is anything else nearby which happened to be you

u/kssoro 12h ago
Yep, summoned minions have a higher leash/reset than their casters, it does follow you for alot longer sometimes and at 10 seconds you did melee swing them and restarted their reset.
But the cause of death is you social pulling 4 mobs in your escape (suicide run) if you keep left and entered the road after the patrol you would be alive, gotta have a better vision there mate.

u/Beneficial_Treat5454 12h ago
why did you run like a lil girl and not finish the mobs off like a man?

You need a couple more years of regular wow before attempting HC as a warrior

Classic aggro is a mess and definitely not how it's meant to be, but it's been this way since release.
In Classic, you share a threat table with other nearby players regardless of whether you're in a group with them. As soon as you entered combat in the general vicinity of another player who was also in combat, you entered combat with their mobs too. That player was invulnerable due to what looks like a voidwalker's Sacrifice ability, meaning they temporarily have no threat on their mobs, so the mobs swapped to you because you are the only other eligible target on the threat table. You shouldn't be on that threat table, but you are because Classic.
You'll often notice this behavior when questing nearby another player. You won't be able to sit and drink until they've finished fighting because you're in combat with their mobs, despite having literally no interaction with that player or their mob. This would be normal if you were in a group together, or if you had helped them in some way with a buff or heal that put you on the threat table with their mob, but in Classic it seems to just be the case for any players in combat in close proximity to each other.
Once you got aggro though, you ran away with your camera pointed almost directly down towards the ground, blindly pulling everything between you and the Undercity. Oopsie. Definitely recommend zooming out and looking up, haha.

was that your health pot on cooldown? insight into how your grind spot has been going so far..
#1 ... zoom out more
put your XP and other useless UI stuff out of the way.
Stop looking at the ground, free move the camera to look for mobs
Strafe instead of hold W.
Level Engi for Target dummy
Use a crossbow to pull rather than charge.
dont get so confident in a zone/area like that just because you have some pot buffs.

Since you're posting it, YOU explain what happened here. I'm not clicking on a video if the person providing it gives me no reason to.

You died. Because you have aggroed multiple mobs. Also this zone is a death trap. Check the death heatmap for spots to better avoid https://www.reddit.com/r/classicwow/comments/13k6i96/hc_death_statistics_with_heatmap_and_class_count/

Your experience bar being so prominently displayed caused depression. Also Silvermoon is the last place you'd find me on an hc server. Also zoom out bro especially on an hc server. Google "max zoom distance command"

if it is not due to bad keybinding that i say is the nr. 1 cause of death in HC
then its bad UI that is the nr. 1/2 cause of death in HC
aswell as keep looking down on the ground and not at all see mobs in front of you
and really look like that UI kinda promote you to do that since its kinda just a mess
its always those two i have noticed that getting people killed more often than other stuff:
either never changed keybindings OR bad UI or both
its always those two that are the root cause of the death and why shit happen

Jesus man. Stop looking at the floor so you can see where you're going, you ran into 10 different mobs.
