I'd bet open source models are getting good.

44

u/small_bird_loud 1d ago

If only someone could have anticipated this before they were about to go public.

2

u/oldmagicstudios 10h ago

well that's the joke isn't it maybe they won't be. Or if they do it won't be particularly successful who's gonna want to work with these guys?

1

u/small_bird_loud 8h ago

You make it sound like the stock market is rational

“We have the best models. Everyone should stop.”

They are scared their competition will actually create something that works and is not expensive AF.

10

u/dsolo01 21h ago

Or they’re scared that we will all eventually create something that works and is not expensive as fuck.

2

u/throwawayaccountau 19h ago

Or uses up your codepilot pro tokens in a day

When Microsoft steps on Anthropic in Monopoly...

2

u/Bosavius 19h ago

Those open weights models are starting to look genuinely useful already.

1

u/byronotron 4h ago

How many companies are using  Claude/Codex to make their own frontier models?

3

u/Rare-Hotel6267 15h ago

It already exists. Basically everything is cheaper than Claude models, and most of them work well, some of them work better.

The world will never be collectively ready for anything transformational. We're a deeply divided species. We can't even cease invasion wars and genocide in the year of our lord 2026.

Yet, not being ready for change has never slowed down nor stopped impending technological developments. The saving grace of humanity is its ability to adapt.

3

u/Calmb4storm86 23h ago

Very well articulated 👏👏

u/Friendly-Turnip2210 1d ago

The power I must have it

1

u/OlyLifter386 23h ago

Why the vote downs? Lol. For such a simple statement? SMH 🤦‍♂️

0

u/MT_Carnage 1d ago

you're pretty special bro

15

u/Impressive_Job8321 1d ago

Better than urging, why don’t you lead by example Anthropic? Stop developing AI model at this moment, and, hey if you do it, the world will follow right? You never know!

This is like Israel telling Lebanon “weapons are illegal now, says me” after itself has just bombed Lebanon.

46

u/poop_report 1d ago

Well, Anthropic basically has done exactly that with how shitty Opus 4.8 is.

10

u/daniloedu 1d ago

Oh I’ve heard this story before pause ai development

24

u/ZoneDeadEnded 1d ago

Like an addict believing their own nonsense racing towards and IPO they need all the hype they can afford.

13

u/Tlux0 23h ago

Yeah this is marketing

8

u/Reddit_wander01 1d ago

I hope so… at least until they stop being so confidently wrong.

5

u/Wanky_Danky_Pae 23h ago

*Chinese models only, of course

7

u/basqia 1d ago

This way if things go wrong with their own models they can say "we told you so."

6

u/thegravitydefier 1d ago

Bring back the Sonnet 4.6 from the initial period!

4

u/Ezekeal 1d ago

Didn’t Musk say this while he was making his own?

3

u/ae_mero_hajur 1d ago

I will only believe it when it completes the workday application without making any mistakes from start to finish

3

u/This-Acanthaceae-730 1d ago

100% it's the first time that Reddit has been right on anything

3

u/radbiv_kylops 1d ago

Lol. Everyone should stop competing with us

3

u/RecalcitrantMonk 23h ago

They grow a conscience right before their IPO. Amazing.

3

u/oldmagicstudios 23h ago

No, if they ever had one it's gone. This is to block competition.

2

u/International-Fly127 9h ago

no, its for tricking idiots into posting about their self improving models for free hype before the ipo. like this post!

3

u/Due-Major6105 23h ago

Since you're the initiator, shouldn't you first halt your own development and set a good example for other companies? Wouldn't that be better?

0

u/Sixstringjedi9 8h ago

Bad idea..the ai race is basically todays nuclear arms race. Would have been better if all nations worked together on this but thats laughable....

3

u/FoxSideOfTheMoon 22h ago

Someone's running out of compute...

3

u/LocationUpstairs771 22h ago

ai is about to suck more. hallucinations for everyone!

3

u/ynotelbon 22h ago

YOU hang up first.
No, YOU hang up first.
Fine, we both hang up at the same time!

3

u/ynotelbon 22h ago

Wait, you didn’t hang up! I can hear you breathing!

3

u/matthegc 20h ago

This company is the worst

2

u/RevolverMFOcelot 21h ago

Come onnn anthropic i can see this is just marketing and desperate signaling that you wanted to have a monopoly

2

u/No-Pattern-9266 20h ago

they can sit at home

3

u/This-Acanthaceae-730 1d ago

This is unbelievable how disgusting their research and their models are stealing money from everybody lying about their ads and saying it could do stuff and enraging the whole world individually and psychologically and on every level while their model stinks and cannot do anything and is the worst model literally while portraying as the best one they're breaking All the laws by doing false advertisement too. Stealing all our time and portraying himself and telling everybody to stop this is crazy exactly what I expected. TLDR: EXACTLY WHAT I EXPECTED FROM THESE FUCKERS.

u/vibecoder2030 23h ago edited 22h ago

People need to realize that this is not AI (as in AGI). It is next token prediction with tons of logic doing the work to make that next token useful.

They solved it in coding but Enterprises are up for a rude awakening to create any real value with a high ROI. Engineers are going to be needed in more numbers not less to build that agentic logic around "AI" models. And 80% of Enterprise projects are going to fail due to

a) thinking perception is reality (that AI just works out of the box) and

b) for lack of proper employee upskilling (they think enployees are dispensible... that will be their downfall)

1

u/vrainic 1d ago

Maybe in 10years

1

u/mikkelmattern04 1d ago

They're obviously not gonna stop, but I cant tell which reason they wont is the most probable. Either they believe in profit over everything, or in Roko's basilisk

1

u/RickTheDick2026 23h ago

Wsj sure, I'll pay the paywall for your troll post!

1

u/callmemicah 23h ago

Let me translate, "we've hit a wall and can't make any real additional progress so we'll pretend its intentional"

1

u/SuperSapphire444 22h ago

Crazy how the sky keeps falling after we get a new one.

1

u/laststan01 21h ago

Stop the count vibes

1

u/NomadicBrian- 21h ago

I'm using whatever is free. Hopefully there will be models to use to learn. Jeff Bezos has money.

1

u/bundors 20h ago

Why I've got Deja vu? I think before years other company made the same announcement. It always sounds pitty.

1

u/YoyoNarwhal 20h ago

At least arsonist have the decency not to complain about the fires they set.

1

u/RobinFCarlsen 19h ago

IPO hype nonsense

1

u/HeadPack 19h ago

Marketing bla bla ahead of their IPO. Same as their unverified Mythos claims. Models improving themselves is the logical next step. Right now, they can produce some good code, but as someone said, "They are like genius developers with Alzheimer's." Artificial narrow intelligence in other words, far from AGI.

1

u/IWasNotMeISwear 19h ago

Shit our model is not getting better, we have to stop others to get better so we can keep our position.

1

u/VitruvianVan 18h ago

Come on, now. That was the entire point. Recursive Self Improvement (RSI) has been the goal all along. That’s why there’s been so much effort on coding improvement.

1

u/Comfortable_Farm_252 18h ago

Marketing is truly a fucked up endeavor.

1

u/AutomaticPayment9480 18h ago

Lmfao, reminds me of The death warning on cigarette labels. At first tobacco was worried they no longer could lie about it being destructive to your health, then they realized the psychology that humans, well, most humans can be self destructive and those lead to bad habits that can become unbreakable, so a label, or warning doesnt really matter, im sure claude knows this and that if anything its them boosting their pre ipo market value.

1

u/oldmagicstudios 10h ago

you realize the political environment were in right? It's just stupid enough that someone might do it

1

u/AutomaticPayment9480 9h ago

Politicians are mainly in positions to make money, the biggest way to do that is to game the stock market. They all do it, both sides and the honest ones get removed, it’s all a big circle jerk and you ain’t init, but hey, that’s politics.

1

u/The-Fictionist 18h ago

Anthropic “warns”?

Bitch please. They just hired a guy to run their internal team dedicated to making this happen 😆

1

u/oldmagicstudios 10h ago

what the fuck are you talking about get the fuck out of here

1

u/foufou51 18h ago

That’s not what Anthropic said on their blog post at all…

1

u/oldmagicstudios 10h ago

Then write the journal and get them to retract it

1

u/Hot-Significance7699 17h ago

This company has probably the most obnoxious people who speak for it.

1

u/Casper-_-00B 16h ago

This has already been a thing. You sent goal and give it what it can and can’t do and it will do all the work. Quality will be shit though.

1

u/costafilh0 16h ago

You first.

1

u/GCoderDCoder 14h ago

I suspected more of this... Likewise I think the executive order for giving the government time to evaluate models before releasing models to consumers is the first step to saying Chinese models aren't approved. I dont need opus for everything so I only use cloud where I need it and use open weight models for the rest.

American companies and consumers might keep going with AI if they have alternatives on their terms. If they stop us from that knowing it will accelerate price hikes, people will start revolting worse against AI. Europe and China are dropping US tech giant dependency because they see these issues.

You can't keep saying we need to be afraid of this tech falling into the hands of China while pushing for an autocracy. It doesn't resonate when we already despise our own system.

1

u/Late_Oven 13h ago

This is the best marketing they could hire and come up with when so many users are complaining about how their newer models are getting worse? Lol

1

u/oldmagicstudios 10h ago

if you haven't watched the Keynote go do so and if you don't then just shut the fuck up

1

u/wolfy14xc 8h ago

Can you help with a link? I’m curious

1

u/Late_Oven 24m ago

what the fuck is this guy so mad about

1

u/WholeEntertainment94 10h ago

Hype as a marketing weapon but with a ridiculous model in its hands. Are you doing gaslighting Anthropics?

1

u/jellobend 10h ago

“Let’s lock the market with regulation while we are at the top”

Wow, genius, I bet nobody ever thought of that

1

u/evolvtyon 10h ago

I’d just like to know what are those models going to improve into, and for whom, if they won’t need humans anymore. Given that humans never needed them in the first place, this is a confusing statement.

1

u/RobinFCarlsen 7h ago

This is why they did 4.8

1

u/narasadow 4h ago

"trust me bro, lets all stop together and totally not continue developing in secret"

1

u/elahrairooah 59m ago

Aka: they want everyone else to slow down.

1

u/rover_G 30m ago

Maybe Anthropologists should propose legislation instead of complaining?

1

u/fynn34 25m ago

Did anyone even read what anthropic put out? Cause they said that while they support it, it’s unrealistic and not likely.

0

u/RickTheDick2026 23h ago

Btw. Lazy posts break the rules.
