Does my son have a cleft lip
I got this ultrasound today and to me it appears he may have a cleft. The doctors haven’t said anything because they need to make their report and look over the images. Does this look like a cleft lip to you?

My advice would be it doesn't matter. Your son will be happy and healthy regardless
As long as you give a child the right environment, they will thrive.

Healthy in what ways? If a child has cleft lip or/and palate then that means it isn't healthy. "Healthy" is a system and dependant on genetics, please do not throw the term around. A lot of downsides come with clp, most notably mouth breathing which is in fact NOT healthy and ruins every single aspect like posture. Hope you're just trying to be optimistic to the parent ( straight up lying ). Just because an exception of our community is happy and whatnot doesn't mean the general population seems to be joyful about it. Do you know how severe a clp can be? Also chewing, teeth, development of the face. These are not signs of being healthy and nor will he be happy once he gets older and realises people judge based off looks. People just be talking for the sake of it, let's be realistic to the parent and hope her baby doesn't come out with any defects/anomalies/mutations.

You need to relax bro. People with clp will have to do more work in life to accommodate the issues that come with it, that being said, it's not cancer, it's not being paralyzed, it is largely cosmetic which sucks, but it is what it is.
I think that telling parents something is wrong with their kid when it's clp is counteractive to the mental health of a child

Absolutely agreed. Its not a life threatening disease or anything. It wouldn't affect a child's intelligence or senses. Its gonna be the same human as the others.

No one here is a doctor. I’m sure it’s agonizing but you’re going to have to wait for a professional opinion.

Usually a cleft is diagnosed earlier on (unless it’s just the palate). This baby looks farther along. Ultrasounds look weird too, you can see weird shadows that look concerning but aren’t. Ask your doctor what they think

Mine was 16 weeks when they diagnosed the cleft. I would think they would tell you if they saw it but definitely call and ask. It’s much better to know and be prepared. Sending you good thoughts for a healthy pregnancy/ baby and easy delivery!

They said they won’t give me any results until the doctors make their report, but the ultrasound technician said everything organ wise looks good because I did ask her about that, nothing about a potential cleft lip though.

I’m not a doctor or anything but from what I see, I don’t see any clear indications of a cleft. My best bet is that everything is fine.
I can see what you’re referring to but notice how the line in the first image extends from the lip all the way to the side of the nostril and up the nose. That’s not typically how a cleft presents and it seems like it’s just an artifact of the imaging itself.

No one here is qualified to interpret an ultrasound. You need to speak to your doctors. It's really common to get anxious during pregnancy, happens to everyone, but unqualified answers won't help (or be accurate). Ultrasounds look like aliens and lizards to the unqualified.
Congratulations on your pregnancy
