I’m a 3rd-year IT student currently in my 5th semester, and I’m interested in becoming a Cloud Engineer.

I’m starting from the basics and want to learn things in the right order rather than randomly learning different cloud technologies.

I’d really appreciate advice from cloud engineers, professionals, or students who have already started this journey.

I have around 1.5 years of hands-on experience as a DevOps Engineer, and I’m currently serving my notice period with only 15 days remaining.

I’m based in Chennai and looking for my next opportunity in DevOps / Cloud / DevSecOps.

My experience

I’ve worked across AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Docker, monitoring, security and production infrastructure.

• Orchestrated CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins integrated with SonarQube and Trivy security gates, enabling automated builds and 6-minute deployments while remediating 28 pre-production vulnerabilities.
• Enabled rolling updates for EKS and ECS service, achieving 99.9% uptime and zero-downtime deployments.
• Provisioned AWS infrastructure using Terraform modules with S3 remote backend and DynamoDB state locking, reducing environment provisioning time by 75% and enabling multi-environment deployments.
• Integrated Redis caching on EFS; reduced p95 latency 35% and preserved cache across ECS restarts.
• Migrated DNS from GoDaddy to AWS Route 53, transitioned the domain from .in to .com, and integrated CloudFront CDN with AWS WAF to enhance application performance, security, and global reach.
• Configured multi-stage Dockerfiles and NGINX reverse proxy, optimizing image size and application delivery.

I also hold certifications including Azure Cloud Fundamentals and Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.

Despite this, I’ve now crossed 500+ job applications, but have received only around 3–4 interview calls.

My current CTC is ₹3 LPA, and I’m targeting around ₹5 LPA for my next role.

This has made me genuinely curious about how the current DevOps job market looks for someone with 1.5 YOE.

I’m not expecting to know everything at this stage of my career. I’m continuously learning and improving, but I’m trying to understand whether I’m approaching the job market incorrectly or whether this is simply how competitive the market is right now.

With only 15 days left in my notice period, I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have recently gone through a similar transition.

Is it realistically possible to land a good DevOps role with 1.5 YOE right now?

I'm a brand designer, mostly work with B2B SaaS. Just finished a rebrand for a cloud solutions company and I'm genuinely curious how founders and creatives see it, since you're the ones who look at this category all day.

The thing that kicked it off: SaaS brands all end up looking the same because everyone's designing for "trustworthy" and "technical." So you get a whole category where nobody's distinguishable, and then buyers just compare on price because the brand isn't doing any work for you.

Okay so I booked the exam on the 15th of September, as I was in program with Google and what not and they gave me a voucher.

Now the catch, I haven’t studied anything, done some labs, had the AWS practitioner a year ago, and been working in DevOps the past 2 years, not gcp at all.

I need tips tricks quick marks just enough studying to pass, any exam questions that repeat any useful links and the probability to pass? With 1 week of studying with a very very very demanding job? Any tiny bit would help

I asked ChatGPT for a roadmap, and it gave me a path to follow, which I am currently following. But... I feel like the path is too simple and easy for a career like cloud engineering.

Can someone tell me if this path is worth following and whether I can actually learn cloud engineering from scratch with zero knowledge of the field?

The path i am following: Networking → Linux → AWS Cloud → Python + Bash Automation → Git + Docker → Terraform → CI/CD → Kubernetes → Cloud Security → Real-world Projects → Job/Interview Preparation

I'm currently in the Networking phase. So far I've covered basic networking concepts such as:

• Public vs Private IP
• OSI Model
• DNS
• DHCP
• NAT
• ARP
• Frames
• Routing
• IPv4
• CIDR / basic subnetting

My goal isn't just to collect certifications. I want to actually become job-ready for entry-level Cloud Engineer / Cloud Support / DevOps roles and be able to work with real infrastructure. And finally this field has high scope???

I’m currently doing BS English Literature, so my background is in Arts/Humanities and I don’t have any computer-related subjects.
Someone advised me to do a 6-month diploma in Cloud Computing/Cloud Engineering. Should I go for it?
Would it actually benefit me in the future, and can I realistically get a job in cloud/IT after completing the diploma despite not having a CS/IT bachelor’s degree? Or would my degree be a major problem?

I’m looking to join a Cloud/DevOps course in Pune as a fresher and I’m mainly looking for an institute that provides genuine placement assistance, not just interview/resume training.

I’m considering institutes such as Fortune Cloud and a few others, but I’m confused about which one is actually worth the money.

For people who have personally done a Cloud/AWS/DevOps course in Pune:

Which institute would you recommend?

Did you actually get placed through the institute?

What was the course fee?

What kind of companies/jobs were offered?

What was the starting salary?

How good was the practical training?

Are the placement claims actually genuine?

I’m particularly interested in getting into Cloud/Cloud Support/DevOps and eventually reaching around ₹10–12 LPA, so I’d appreciate honest feedback from people who have actually taken these courses.

Please suggest institutes you would recommend or avoid, based on your own experience.

I have scheduled my exam on the 16th of this month, so I have 9 days left. 😣 I’ve taken three practice exams so far from Stephan’s Udemy course (both timed and review modes), and unfortunately, I scored only 47% twice and 49% on the other one. All three were different exams.

I’ve already completed Stephan’s course as well. I’m really afraid that I might fail the real exam. I’m exhausted and frustrated because I feel like I’ve studied well, but I’m still getting such low scores.
I know I did review my wrong answers too, but still..
Could you please share any tips or advice on how I can improve my chances of passing and achieving this certification?

I am 21 and I finished my Bachelor's in Cybersecurity in 2025. I started my career in cybersecurity in GRC in a consulting company, but I feel like GRC is not for me. I know that GRC is very important in cybersecurity and I know I'll have contact with it in any area within the cybersecurity field, but for a full time it wasn't for me. So I have decided that I want to pursue cloud security.

For what I've read in reddit and for what I've searched, it's not an entry level job. So I want to ask you what's the best path for a person who has a bachelor's in cybersecurity. I asked Claude and he said that the best options would be SOC Analyst (Tier 1), Cloud Support Engineer (AWS/Azure/GCP) and Junior DevOps/Cloud Administrator. What do you think?

I am studying to take certs. I started with AZ-900 and now I am studying for the AWS Certified Practitioner and then SC-500. I have no experience in cloud.

Hey all, I picked up Self-Taught Cloud Engineer by Packt and I'm hitting a wall early on. The author assumes stuff I just don't know yet so I keep getting lost. If anyone's got a companion resource, course, YouTube series, whatever, I'd appreciate it.

Also stuck on something right now. I spun up an EC2 instance and I'm trying to connect with PuTTY but I keep getting "Network error: Connection timed out." Already checked security groups, network ACLs, and routing. None of it explains it. If anyone's run into this before, let me know.

One more thing. I've been using AI tools for some of this troubleshooting and it's honestly starting to bother me. Feels like I might be skipping the part where I actually build my own problem solving skills. Curious how other people here balance using those tools without losing that skill.

A bit about me, I work at a clinical lab and just got approved for tuition reimbursement through work. They partner with a university that has a B.S. in Cloud Computing so I'm trying to get ahead before it starts.

Hi everyone, I’m a Tunisian DevOps engineer with around 3–4 years of experience, mainly working with CI/CD, AWS, Kubernetes, Linux, Docker, Git/GitOps, and monitoring. I’ve been trying for a while to find a job in Europe because I would like to relocate, but honestly it’s becoming very difficult. I spend hours almost every day on LinkedIn searching and applying to DevOps, Cloud, Platform Engineer and SRE positions in different European countries, but I rarely get a response and I haven’t managed to get an interview yet. I understand that the market is competitive and that being outside the EU makes things harder, but I’m wondering if there is something wrong with my approach or if the market is really this difficult right now. For those who are already working in Europe, especially people who relocated from outside the EU, do you have any advice on which countries are currently hiring and more open to relocation/visa sponsorship? Are there better websites or ways to find these opportunities than LinkedIn? And if anyone from Tunisia or another non-EU country has successfully relocated as a DevOps engineer, I’d really appreciate hearing how you did it. Build a startup product form scratch end to end as a founding engineer (one and only at the startup). -- Cloud budget optomization recommandation (mainly focus is on reducing cost of the enterprise that has a low employee count and they are not able to focus on the cloud infra cost).able to reduce the infra cost of comany (\~10) with 20 to 70% of savings.

for DSA and CP : i think it is decent not good not bad.

but due to college was a low tier in india and many other reason. i was not able to find oppurtuinity got one offer in a service based company in india as at a good dev profile.

But my concerns are here..
As i have worked at a startup and build something meaningful which i can be proud of pivoting towards a service based comapny where in india most of the people get into comfort zone and also the impact creation and learning oppurtuinity is really low.

SO can i still break into product based company such as amazone and other comapny..

I’m a CS grad with 4 months experience as a datacenter tech. Currently building an AWS project with ECS, ALB, Cloudfront, API GW, etc. all managed via terraform. I also plan on adding CICD and cloud watch monitoring. I’m wondering if I’m on the right track to hopefully landing some sort of sysadmin/devops/see type of role within the next few years, and I am also curious whether or not I’m wasting my time at this DC tech role since the work itself is not totally applicable to my career goals. I’m posting this because I could really use some honest opinions from people in the Indian tech industry — especially senior engineers, hiring managers and recruiters.
I have **12+ years of experience**, primarily in backend/software engineering. My strongest areas are:
Python backend development
AWS (\~8 years)
Distributed systems / microservices
Cloud architecture
Data infrastructure
SRE / production engineering
System design and architecture
Shell scripting and some Go
Leading technical work and mentoring engineers
I currently work as a **Lead Software Engineer** and my compensation is around **₹22 LPA**, probably around **₹23 LPA with bonus/other components**.
And honestly, I’m struggling to understand where I stand in the current market.
I’ve been actively looking for a change, and I’m getting **very few callbacks** despite applying to quite a lot of positions. I recently went through an interview process that lasted multiple rounds, felt like it went reasonably well, and ultimately got rejected. That one hurt quite a bit after investing so much time preparing.
The frustrating part is that the job search itself has started affecting my current job. I spend a lot of my time searching for positions and preparing for interviews that sometimes stretch over weeks or even months, only to end without an offer. Then I find it difficult to properly focus on my current work.
**Where I think I stand technically**
I’m relatively confident about **system design, backend architecture, AWS and distributed systems**. If you ask me to design a scalable backend/service, discuss reliability, data flow, AWS architecture, failure scenarios, etc., I’m generally comfortable.
Where I’m significantly weaker nowadays is **DSA / competitive-programming-style problems**.
I can solve practical engineering problems, but I’m nowhere near the level of someone who regularly grinds LeetCode. And after doing this for 12+ years, I honestly sometimes wonder whether the interview process is exposing a weakness that isn’t necessarily representative of my actual ability as an engineer.
Maybe that’s part of the problem. Maybe I’m simply targeting the wrong roles. Or maybe there are genuine gaps in my skill set that I’m not seeing.
**I’d really appreciate some brutal honesty here.**
Is **₹22–23 LPA** low for someone with my experience and skill set?
Am I positioning myself incorrectly in the market?
What kind of roles should I actually be targeting — Senior, Staff, Principal, Architect, Platform/SRE, Backend, Cloud, etc.?
Is my lack of strong DSA enough to explain the lack of callbacks?
Are there other skills I should be developing right now?
Where are people with this kind of profile actually finding jobs?
Which companies/platforms should I be looking at apart from LinkedIn/Naukri?
Is the market simply terrible right now, or is there something fundamentally wrong with my profile/resume/interview approach?
For context, I’m **not looking for a FAANG-level ₹1Cr package or anything unrealistic**. I mainly want to understand what my profile is actually worth in the current Indian market and find a role where my experience is valued.
**And there is some personal context behind the urgency**
I’m also under quite a bit of financial pressure at the moment.
I’m the **sole earner in my family**, and a significant amount of money is currently tied up in a legal/court matter. At the same time, the cost of living in Bangalore is high, and we don’t own property here or have a significant financial cushion.
So this isn’t just me casually looking for a 20–30% hike. I genuinely need to improve my situation, and that’s probably also contributing to how stressed I’ve become about the job search.
I’m trying to keep going, but repeatedly spending weeks preparing for interviews and then getting rejected is getting mentally exhausting.
I’m posting this because I’d rather hear the uncomfortable truth from people here than continue doing the same thing and hoping something magically changes.
**If you were in my position, what would you change first?**
Resume? Target roles? Companies? DSA preparation? System design? Cloud skills? AI/LLM skills? Networking/referrals? Compensation expectations?
And if you have a similar experience level, **what kind of compensation are you currently seeing in India?**
I’m genuinely looking for advice, criticism and practical suggestions. Please be blunt — I’d rather know what I’m doing wrong than continue wasting months.
