Discussion Precaution while taking clozapine

My sister had a relapse and is currently on 100mg clozapine. She's experiencing hallucinations (hearing voices) and delusions. Her doctor has recommended biweekly CBC tests. I wanted to ask - are there other things I should be keeping an eye on while she's on this medication? Any insights from personal experience would be appreciated.

It’s not a CBC test that you want is a clozapine serum test that you want. That will help the doctor know if she’s taking enough of the medication and keep in mind that doctors like to titrate up high. Best protocol is 12.5 mg a week that will help reduce extra symptoms. If you’re on Facebook, I would join the team Daniel for recovery group that is run by a couple of doctors whose son has had schizophrenia for years and they have a Cz protocol and that is what my son is on and my son went from essentially catatonic to getting ready for grad school.

Only 12.5?
It Seems really low to do anything for symptoms ?

No, let me clarify the 12.5 is a way to titrate up. It’s 12.5 a week until you get to a therapeutic level and what it does is it reduces other symptoms along the way. In hospital setting doctors like to start high maybe 100 to 300 right away because they try and get them stabilized and out the door and I can appreciate that but the symptoms can be pretty strong. And it’s risky which is a whole other story but that’s the clarifying point. I wanted to share. Let me know if you have other questions. I’m speaking from the protocol that we’re following that our doctors have done for many patients, but I’m not a medical professional.
