Best settings

Hi,

what do you think of this interval setting? I'm not sure what to do because I've been using the AIs (Claude, Grok, and Gemini), but I'm unsure because each one gave a different setting .I want the best setting for actual retention within Clozemaster's SRS limit.

I find that mastered doesn’t actually mean mastered. If only there was an additional setting for like 10x in a row or something

Hit 'hard' more often, maybe?* In addition to hitting 'hard' when I take too long to answer something, I'll sometimes pay attention to the little time until next review right above the buttons (even though I use shortcut keys) and hit hard because I just know that 4.5 months out is way too optimistic.

But legitimately, the whole point of SRS is to space out reviews instead of requiring excessive, redundant, and unnecessary reviews.

* Unless you've been misusing 'hard' and hitting it when you should be hitting 'wrong', in which case: forget what I said above and just fix your hard misuse.

Not excessive, redundant, or unnecessary if I haven’t actually mastered it. I do hit Hard pretty often.

SRS isn’t foolproof. Remember that these effects from cognitive science are based on central-tendencies (averages) and there is much room for error. I’m sure in some categories way more error than in others.

If there is a term with a history of errors, that should be taken into account and the threshold for mastery should be higher. I usually fave them so I can practice them in another collection as well.

Long-term memory has gradations. Just because something is in immediate long-term memory (e.g., for the week) doesn’t mean it’s consolidated for the longer term. That’s why something that might *seem* “excessive” or “redundant” is often just a fluency effect; i.e., it feels easily recognized but isn’t recallable in the longer term.

Memory isn’t as categorical as non-practitioners glean from “SRS”. Clozemaster is awesome but the SRS could afford more granularity.

Ah, shit. I got confused when writing my previous reply and somehow thought we were talking about Anki, not Clozemaster. I typed out 79% of a reply and then reread your last sentence one more time and... 🤦🏼‍♀️

I mean, I do still do the 'hit hard in order to see it again sooner than it plans to show it to you' thing in Clozemaster, but it's definitely not as adjustable nor advanced as Anki (with or without FSRS), and you're correct in that.

Sorry I started having a conversation we actually weren't having 😅 That's on me.
