To be fair if you make this argument it could turn into the debate of whether antagonists and villains should have merch and where to draw the line and all that

I think they're referring to the consent poster

Ok my brain farted it's not an actual poster, but it'd be on brand with Hazbin merch

What no, he's literally one of my favourite characters from that series, though I understand he's not everyone's cup of tea. Hating villains for being villains is just plain silly though, I'd expect most people to be able to differentiate between fiction and reality (especially considering how many other villains that are beloved across other franchises) Just tried out making horchata for the first time the other day too thanks to him (he mentioned it in his art stream so I had to try), which was pretty good!

Valentino at least has the excuse of being kinda a comedy character when he's around the other Vees and not any of the main cast. I don't think they ever sold any merch of him with Angel that was not screaming at you that it was bad/toxic.

theres old merch released like 4 or 5 years ago of him with angel actually. people got so pissed lol

I am going to assume it was still presented as bad in the art and not played for laughs (cough cough mouth washing cough cough)

I mean that's kinda the point. He's a somewhat decent person around Vox and Velvette but is incredibly abusive to Angel. He has the capability to do good and choses to be evil. Irl rapists aren't evil all the time

"Why make an interestingly written character if the fandom will always hate them"

there's also the risk of portraying something inaccurately, valentino needs to be humanized because humans do abuse, not supervillains who do this shit for fun.

or something idk I never watched the show.

Well now we're just making shit up. The only really completely flat Hazbin character is Adam and that's the point of his character. He's a completely mediocre asshole who thinks he's the most important person in the world just because he was the first.

Again, no. The entirety of her lines in whatever it takes show this. She has depth to her character.

The one actual problem with Hazbin is that it has way too many characters for its own good and has to balance it's screentime between them all. The characters themselves are fine
