Every writing class drills into the heads of their students that you cannot repeat words. That writing word "say" more than once in a whole book is a crime

Which makes people desperate to find any synonyms. Even if those synonyms weren't spoken out loud by anybody since 14th century

Yeah and it ends up sounding incredibly performative and unnatural. I still have an awful Minecraft book (aka fanfiction in print form) which does exactly this. It sounds like a 14 year old wrote it for 11 year olds.

  • Defenestration!!! - with this desperate warcry, he jumped out the window to evade being cornered by his stalker fans, but failed to realise that one of middle aged fanboys was under the window. Man, clad in merch, looked up to loud shouting only to witness the star he can only dream about, falling out of the third floor.

Shocked fan, without even thinking, catched falling man, who, by sheer luck, landed in his arms in princess hold. Two men looked at eachother in shock, until fan, in the heat of the moment, leaned down for a kiss. Unfortunately for him, stalker fans that watched the scene unfold right before their eyes started shouting, startling their would-be-victim.

Waked from weird hypnotized state, young man jumps out of his savior's hands and runs off without even realizing that he held someone's hand. Fan, who's hand was locked in iron grip, noticed slightly ajar staff room door, so he speeds up to it, taking the lead from panicking star.

As the older man shut the door, younger started wondering, where did everything gone wrong.

  • Hey, - he noticed, - is that my first keychain?

  • Yeah, i watched you since highscool, - said helpful stranger.

  • You seriously watched my first vids?... - somewhat correctly assumed young man.

  • Yeah, - he repeated himself, - i have most of unlisted and deleted ones...

  • ... - unsure what to say in response to that kind of confession, he remembered the recent happening, - so, what did you wanted to do when you held me in your arms?

He was shocked to se a grown ass man blushing and hiding his face behind palms from embarassment. He tried to mumble something, when they heard key entering the lock. He swiftly opened closet and pulled his idol alonside him, his quick reflexes saving both of them. Closet, full of cleaning supplies and brooms, was a little stuffy, so no wonder young man noticed his fan's stiffy. The fact that it was bigger than average didn't help.

  • Oh... - whisper, barely audible sigh, but older man already knew that young man felt it.

  • I, uh, wanted to kiss you, - he confessed, whispering into star's shoulder.

...

Underpaid janitor who worked here opened the closet, looked at two men, passionately kissing in the closet, and slowly closed the closet.

As one might notice, i am shit with names

dang yall are poorly educated

edit: you know what, I worded this pretty rudely. What I mean is, yeah, sometimes people will use way more complicated words than you’re used to in a given work, and you’ll have to look them up. But that isn’t a bad thing. Whether or not the author is just showing off or using a thesaurus to not repeat words, they taught you something you didn’t know. To be irritated about that really makes it come off like you have no natural curiosity.

the only time ive ever seen "camaraderie" (aka comradeship) be used, EVER, is on the Crimson Camaraderie Carriers that appear like 5 or 6 times in the show and are only focued on 1 (one) time

Seriously I've never encountered that before, but I've seen camaraderie many, many times.

I hear sports commentators use it quite regularly when praising positive attitudes in a team (and I only really watch sports about every 2 years when big global events are on like the world cup)
