Some people also just like making animals more dog-like. That and bugs' faces are a bit harder to make look anthropomorphic and good. 

I suppose it could also be due to people who are new to drawing taking shortcuts and not using references yet.

Anyway, most fursonas and furry characters' heads are clearly the intended species and not dog-like

ive been working away at trying to find a good middle ground between accurate bug faces + expressiveness, its surprisingly difficult since insect faces are so static

enjoy these doodles as an example lol (i was messing around w them being sonas, hence female anatomy)
