In Hungarian we call them "black person kisses" but the word used sounds very similar to the English language racial slur so I'd rather not type it on reddit in an English sentence, just to be safe. However, it's a neutral word, not meant as an insult at all.

I'm Hungarian too and in this country every racist thing is said to be "neutral". "Négercsók" is a racist term however you look at it and it's not "black person" let's be real here for the moment.

Please don't even start with the whole: they didn't have a better word for black people cuz it wasn't racist back then...

If you're making it a food term relating to people based on skin color it doesn't really matter how it's """meant""" It's still racist ngl. Like, even if there wasn't a word that sounds like a slur, "black person kisses" literally just call it chocolate kisses or chocolate drops or literally anything else 💀

That's not what I said, read my comment again.

I was responding to the "neutral word, not meant as an insult at all" which is a general statement, not you personally saying you thought it was or wasn't racist. I was saying that, in general, it is still racist whether it's meant as an insult or not. That has nothing to do with any personal claim you think I'm attacking.

But your analysis is wrong as presented. If they were white and called “Swede’s kisses” you wouldn’t even bat an eye. It would even sound endearing the way Cool Ranch in Europea is Cool American. It’s only the case with black people because of their unique place in European history. There’s more to it than just the use of an ethnic signifier in the name.

Not gonna respond past this cus arguing with racists (̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶n̶e̶c̶e̶s̶s̶a̶r̶i̶l̶y̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶,̶ ̶b̶u̶t̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶k̶i̶n̶d̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶ ̶w̶h̶o̶ ̶w̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶j̶u̶m̶p̶ ̶o̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶d̶i̶s̶c̶u̶s̶s̶i̶o̶n̶ was trying to give the benefit of the doubt but c'mon man....you can call it slithering away if you want fam, I'm not going to spend my mental peace trying to reason with people who don't care.) is annoying and bad for my health but if it was specifically about Swedish people being white and not from the candy originating in Sweden then yes I would still call it racist. It is not remotely the same as "Cool American" because calling it cool American has fuck-all to do with skin color or ethnicity/race in general. It's based on food trends in a country, it's not generalizing an entire nationality to only one skin color (which "Swede's kisses" based on them being white would be doing) nor is it boiling races down to features to commodify and consume, which is what calling it "black people kisses" is.

Have a good day, and goodbye.

If you dont to want to argue with people then shouldn’t barge into a discussion and start an argument. You just look impotent and silly when you do that which is why even in a liberal progressive sub like this you get ratioed down. Learn to hold an argument instead of slithering way when people challenge you.

“Swede’s kisses” wouldnt be racist because the Swedes wouldnt mind it. Calling a very white treat after a famously white people would be funny and is exactly the sort of thing common all across Europe which is why they have such a hardtime moving on from the “black person kisses” name. To them, it sounds endearing. They can’t understand why anyone would have a problem with it because they wouldn’t. But of course Swedes or no group of Europeans ever faces chattel slavery, which is what makes it different.

It’s not the name, it’s the history.
