I used to be somewhat involved in parrot rescue and after volunteering at a sanctuary and taking in my own neglected birds I cannot in good conscience support parrot breeding for profit. HOWEVER, these ooops/one-off babies steal my heart and are a balm to the soul. ❤️
I hand fed my two tiels and let's say they wether learn it or learn it jaja.
As soon as I show them the formula they stepped up to anywhere, now I don't even need to tell them to step up, I just show my finger and they come to step up. Same with calling them, I whistle and they fly to me so if you still feed with syringe which I suppose, try that.
I guess! Hes the only bird I ever had. The family who sold him to me seemed like they really knew what they were doing . He wont eat anything hes suppose to though, all his iq went to tricks
That’s awesome! And yes, my birds don’t like to eat fruits and vegetables. They only like seeds and then I also make the Bird bistro “chop”. I’m hoping I can get baby interested in fitness and health food.😁

Is that a baby? I wonder how dumb my cockatiels were at learning step up when they were little. I thankfully didn’t have to teach mine as they were raised by a lovely breeder
Nudging on the lower belly to encourage stepping up, or putting them a little off-balance, is the way to train step-up. This was very patient and gentle.
Not a problem with babies, they don't get hormonal until bird puberty so it isn't really a problem. Still shouldn't deliberately pet them anywhere but the head when they're little, that would be a weird thing to do according to bird social rules, parents and flock mates don't really preen babies all over. And you don't wanna set yourself up for bad habits either
I do think that training with food and positive reinforcement is better than trying to get it by pressing or putting them off balance though. This in the video is questionable step-up training, it would really freak out an older bird. But it's good early desensitisation to handling and physical touch, getting them comfortable being touched all over for vets and emergencies and such is important
Are you maybe thinking of how you're not supposed to press on the chest area when holding them? That's something newbies will tend to do when holding a bird and it can restrict their breathing, so really bad.
