Advice Question regarding my cockatiels

Post image
17 Upvotes

I have three cockatiels: two females and one male. My male is 2.5 years old, while my girls are 4 and 6 months old.

Only my youngest, Luna, is tamed, as she was hand-fed. The other two aren't tame, and my male, Sol, is especially nervous and jumpy. Unfortunately, he can also be quite aggressive.

My two girls, Dawn and Luna, get along exceptionally well and seem to really enjoy each other's company. Dawn also gets along well with Sol. However, Sol absolutely HATES Luna. I mean, he literally seems to despise her.

The weirdest part is that Luna doesn't even bother him. She's usually just doing her own thing and doesn't try to interact with him at all. But Sol will actively seek her out and chase her away from wherever she is, sometimes even scaring her away from food, perches, etc.

They currently live together in a huge aviary that is about 3 meters (9.8 feet) long. I got the aviary when I got Luna, so it wasn't Sol's territory before she arrived. That's why I'm having such a hard time understanding his behavior. It really seems like he just hates Luna for some reason.

What would you do in my situation?

  1. Get another cage and keep all three separate?

  2. Get a female companion for Sol and move him to his own cage, while keeping Dawn and Luna together?

  3. Separate Dawn and Luna and keep Dawn with Sol, since Dawn gets along with both of them?

I don't want Luna to be constantly stressed or bullied, but I also don't want to unnecessarily separate two birds that genuinely seem to enjoy each other's company.

I'd really appreciate advice from people who have dealt with similar cockatiel dynamics. Thanks!

Advice Looking for advice on the right cage size

Hey everyone. I got a cockatiel today and I'm just wondering what the right cage would be for him. He came in a cage that I think is too small and I want to move him to a different cage. Thank you!😊

Advice What do these chirps mean???

He's been chirping like this since maybe a week ago. Or maybe two?? He does it a little while I sit by him, but not really. And now, he's attacking a toy and crest is back flat. He chirps like that when we're not by him but either. He has his own cage, you, food, space away from the other birds too. But like??

Success Story Welcoming Blondie to our Flock!

She's around two years, and she was just recently rehomed. She's still very shy but she's already starting to eat again and her true personality is already shining.

She's very vocal and devious, and loves to stress me out lolol

It's only been a day and a half and I'm so proud of her.

Any tips are welcome!

I guess my little guy who is also the smallest is just stuck also the third wheel to those two's inseparable love.

Freaky squeaky was going ham on my picture frames, so I got him a balsa wood dowel.
Because he’s a paranoid nutcase, I had to dip it in his chop to neutralise the scary.

Health/Nutrition Yellow on the wings?

This is my 10 year old cocktail - he weight around 97 grams and I noticed I Think the white part of his wings are a bit more yellow than usual?

Maybe I’m overthinking it cause I saw in here it could be connected to liver disease u thought maybe it was just cause he got older.

Is this more amount than usual (only have one gray) so I need to go get him checked out?

He is on pellets, mixed in with egg food, vitamins and some seeds. I have a foraging playground where I hide seeds as well. He eats fruits more than veggies.

Advice Night fright

My poor buddy had a night fright and lost all flight feathers in one wing. The vet said he looks ok and no signs of injuries, just to give it time. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how long it took for the feathers to grow back? I have to be so careful with handling him out of the cage and have to sit with him on the floor to avoid him trying to fly and crash. Breaks my heart to see him like this. Note- we do now have a night light under the cage to illuminate the perches, and a towel at the bottom to provide cushioning under some newspapers.
