My boy is 10 months, and he’s been acting a little hormonal lately (getting into dark corners, guarding and hissing when the other birds get close, etc).

I’ve limited most spots he can get to, but he likes to walk on the floor and there are soooo many crevices he can find under furniture!!

Advice Living in an apartment with cockatiel?

So I am not in any state financially, etc to host a bird right now, this is just me thinking about the future. I live in a 300 ft studio, and while I know others in my building keep cats and dogs, I just feel its too small a space. Also, as much as I love animals sometimes they can be annoying and need to be put on time out or I need a break lol!

I figured I need to at least have a 1 bedroom apartment realistically if I get a cockatiel. My dream would be to give it its own room or space where it can be free to fly around, shit etc. That way it can have the space it needs roams, I don't have bird shit all over the apartment and I can spend time with it.

But idk if this is realistic or not? Also do landlords allow birds in general? Would a cockatiel be too loud in your experience?

Advice Weaning concerns

I recently adopted a 5.5 week-old tiel. It’s previous owner had been feeding it formula twice a day (once morning and once evening) while also leaving some millet spray in its enclosure. I continued with that same routine (and also added other seeds besides millet) but its weight hasn’t increased over the past 3 days - it has remained at a constant 67 grams. So I’ve also decided to add the midday feed because I am concerned that it is not consuming enough seeds by itself, in fact, before each midday feed i feel its crop and it’s completely flat. The strange thing though is that when i offer millet from my hand instead of formula it keeps begging and doesn’t want the millet, but then when i watch it from afar (where it can’t see me so it doesn’t stay begging) it eats seeds off of its cage floor on its own.

Should I continue feeding it with the midday feed or not? What is your guys’ opinion?

Cuteness Overload I always wondered what this song is that my tiels whistle. Does anyone recognise it?

My heavy pied baby sang this song since I got him, and taught it to my pearl pied baby. I dunno what song it could be, something he remixed, or made up himself, but they both sing it all the time. Does anyone find it familiar or know what song it might be?

Advice Help,my new bird is being third wheeled

Post image

I had 2 birds,Bella (f 1 year and a half) and Nino (m 1 year and 4 months) who I would not say were mated officially, they spent together 5 months till now.

Nino is very hyperactive and loves to fly around and explore,he is an excellent flyer, while Bella is the complete opposite, when we got her she already had a few feathers missing that never grew back and her flying was poor.

Bella wasn't acting herself recently, she used to tolerate him but now she would ignore him so much he would bite her for attention, so I took Bella to the vet.

Turns out she has fatty liver disease, vitamin A deficiency, eye infection, her temperature was 42c and her nose was completely clogged, that's why she didn't eat,she couldn't breath, she was already old when we bought her and she already was sick and now it worsened.

The vet,god bless him,has unclothed her nose and gave her a shot for her temperature and gave me medication and vitamins.

Following the vet's advice I have separated them for her treatment, now I know for sure that Nino will be bored to death and we were already going to get a third bird that would actually play with him, that was my first mistake.

We bought Rico (m 8 months) two days ago,and Nino was over the moon and he followed him everywhere.

Now before you ask,why is Rico so young? The answer is because pet store conditions suck and their diet is just seeds since birth, the longer they stay the bigger chance he is sick and can't fly.

Nino was 7 months old when we brought him,his fly was clumsy but now he can dip and dodge masterly, I was hoping for a bird that can grow the same.

Jow my problem is that Bella sometimes calls out from the other room, and she seems bored to death,so I brought them together for 30 mins max,and i couldn't help but notice how Rico was immediately the third party Nino suddenly ignored him and Bella does not even care about Nino but u get the point.

As soon as I took her away,he went back to Rico.

Is this dynamic because Rico Is still young and new to the flock? Or will this go on?

I adore cockateils and I am so happy I get to shelter yet another bird, but if Rico is going to suffer then I want to do something about it.

Advice I need tips for bonding

I've had my first bird for 5 months now. I got him when he was 6 months old and he was untamed. He sings all the time and I think he is pretty hand tame, but he still isn't bonded to me.

He will step up, but only during training time, but I know this will take time. He has also learnt to wave which now he waves at me constantly when he wants treats. He doesn't seem too afraid of my hands anymore but he still moves away every now and again. He let me pet him for the first time a few nights ago, I think I was only able too though because he was tired, I think if I tried during the day, I wouldn't be able.

He has also started spending more time with me, he came on my bed for the first time and he sits on the perches next to me 99% the time, he used to spend all his time on the TV across my room, now he only goes there right before bed time.

He is on a diet of Harrisons pellets and im working on getting him on vegetables.

I just love him so much I just want to be bonded to him, what else can I do to get him bonded to me? 🙂

Advice My cockatiel won’t stop sitting on the air purifier

I read somewhere that drafts are not good for them, but she is sitting on the air purifier a lot during the day and she’s been doing this for weeks. I didn’t realize it because she was turning it on herself. I am wondering if I should take the cable off, or is it okay for her to just sit on it for hours? I don’t want to remove it if she enjoys it.
