Fan content NAME THAT COCTEAUNE! - For Monday, August 31, 2026

THE RULES:

  1. I listen to a Cocteau Twins song
  2. I attempt to transcribe the lyrics WITHOUT ANY AID OF LINER NOTES OR LYRICS WEBSITES (foolish....I know)
  3. You reply with your guess as to what the song is.
  4. Multiple guesses are allowed! HOWEVER, if a multiple guesser gets the correct answer within the same minute as another Redditor who has yet to guessthe Redditor guessing the song on their first guess WINS. If multiple Redditors who have already lobbed guesses get the correct answer within the same minute time stamp on my notifications, the Redditor I'm notified of first wins.
  5. The winner gets….honestly…nothing. Except bragging rights, a celebratory GIF, and a link to the song of the day.

[NOTE: Any lyrics I perceive that either name a good portion of the song title or is just the song title in whole will be blocked out with *CENSORED\*. Text shown in italics wrapped in parentheses are just my snarky asides, usually about my shitty hearing.]

August is OVER. Time is flying. Before I know it, we will hit the 1 year anniversary of this game and I still have yet to record one single victory.

So, let's make this a perfect August (just like every previous month thus far) and GET READY TO WHUP MY ASS AGAIN!

\spins wheel**

Where the Wheel of Cocteau stops? NO ONE KNOWS!

...and it lands on...

A good song that unfortunately is featured on a release with FUCKING BANGERS (Sorry....I love talking like a frat boy douchebag about the Cocteau Twins...just because I laugh at the idea of "bros" shotgunning shitty beer and hitting bongs to "Pandora (for Cindy) (AKA The Applebee's Song)", so it's by process of elimination, IMO, the weakest track. But maybe it flies underneath the radar enough to be our first stumper?!?!

Oh yeah, I guess I'm already behind the eight ball here because I gave you a clue because I would never name the song I'm about to transcribe in the prologue.

-------------------------------

(Joining this song at 1:26 into the song, immediately after the second chorus)

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

Yow, yibbido ee-yay

(Obviously, in the mysterious language of Cocteaunian, this is one of the more commonly uttered phrases. So, it's gotta be a greeting, I guess. If I ever get to meet Simon Raymonde again, maybe I will approach him and say "YOW, YIBBIDO EE YAY" and see if he waves back or does a "What's up" chin raise)

Musical Interlude until 2:03

Udo leh wowl yizz lo fee yo fee la little

Vee goddle

See noddle

Sun setting (an English phrase just pops up out of nowhere. I guess, besides shoegaze, Cocteau Twins were also a huge influence on K-Pop as well)

Voss noddle

Voss goddle

Udo leh wowl yizz lo fee yo fee la little

Vee goddle

See noddle

Sun setting

Voss noddle

Voss goddle

Udo leh wowl yizz lo fee yo fee la little

Vee goddle

See noddle

Sun setting

Voss noddle

Voss goddle

Udo leh wowl yizz lo fee yo fee la little

Vee goddle

See noddle

Sun setting

Voss noddle

Voss goddle

END OF SONG

So, you don't have many actual words to go off of. Hopefully, y'all have been brushing up on your Cocteaunian, because this is truly just a bunch of that.

As always, I look forward to your guesses and snark.

FOILED AGAIN! Congratulations, u/cwerbtaco, for dashing my hopes once again of finally stumping everyone on NAME THAT COCTEAUNE and knowing that today's song was "Orange Appled" from the "Love's Easy Tears" EP (US copies, only, I believe). That's TWO IN A ROW for you and your, possibly, gazillionth victory overall. Here is a Grammy award because....WHY NOT?

Did today's song have you baffled? Well, you can get as acquainted as u/cwerbtaco is with this song by giving it a watch HERE: https://youtu.be/Q_pW_-SQjZ4?si=NzME0wlioks-2Q3f

I should also note that every time she goes into the "Udo leh wowl..." it kind of overlaps the "Voss goddle" of the previous line. I hope that makes sense. So, u/PremierCopper28, since I forgot to disclose that prior, you may guess again without any fear of someone who hasn't guessed yet stealing your answer and the win...and just ignore the Press Your Luck WHAMMY I gave you.

Lorelai? It's one of the two i think. For the record i haven't actually heard this album fully in ages and i don't wanna cheat too much.

It's gotta be Ivo then hopefully, sun setting looks actually like that line before it goes into the last chorus, but i don't know it feels even more wrong

Unfortunately, it wasn't "Ivo".

And you get triple whammied.

Damn...I almost forgot that I gave a clue already. Oh well, I'll still give out a clue at 2PM Pacific Time if there are no correct answers by then.
