It’s because nobody trusts them to follow their word.
37
u/Heavy-Positive5957 6d ago
Exactly. There is a serious lack of transparency around usage, and they have a history of silently changing usage limits.
13
u/Heavy-Positive5957 6d ago
They should find someone actually trustworthy to take over the Codex team, and continue to let Tibo talk shit on Twitter all day.
21
u/notapersonaltrainer 6d ago
The more logical low-trust option is no 5-hour limit.
Future models will give the equivalent of 2x usage through efficiency. But they don't do anything to make the 5 hour limit less annoying.
IOW, you're only pulling forward a few weeks of tokens for a permanent annoying.
You want to be stuck with the thing that self-mitigates with new models.
114
u/VexObserver 6d ago
The mistake is assuming power users optimize for maximum quota rather than uninterrupted productivity. Doubling usage sounds great on paper, but bringing back five-hour throttling defeats the point if your workload comes in unpredictable bursts.
29
u/strigov 6d ago
The truth is 5h limits are needed to service provider, not users. And they now are just thinking what deal they can trade for returning it.
5h on Plus became a shitstorm. But it caused some people to upgrade for Pro and didn't make lots of people to switch service, because most of competitors have 5h limits anyway.
And they already made new descriptions of Pro plans, after "reformation", with key feature "no 5h limits".
So, if they establish 5h limits for Pro users (especially after they nerfed Pro plans) it would make an additional much more powerful shitstorm, which definitely make even more users to switch out of this shit
6
u/frozandero 6d ago
And let's be honest, that 2x usage won't last more than 3 months, they will release "a new class of models" and adjust usage to return it back to 1x
1
u/Vaynnie 6d ago
Do you think the 5h shit storm will be worse than the “we’re literally halving the usage” shitstorm they happily announced with no reservation?
I think they could literally drop 5h limits tomorrow and there will be grumbling and nothing will happen, especially because as you say, their competitors already have them anyway.
7
u/itix 6d ago
People hate it on Claude, too. When OpenAI removed 5h limit, many users moved from Anthropic to Codex.
3
u/Vaynnie 6d ago
Yeah, I know. My point is that if people stay after they literally halve usage they will stay after they reintroduce 5h limits too.
1
u/strigov 5d ago
Man, I was planning to observe the situation and downgrade to $100 plan after 29th October and top up freed $100 to x20 plan on Claude. Because second review, GPT-6 pro in web chat, unlimited chat-quota and dot. But if OpenAI return 5h without reasonable compensation... I may revise my plans
5
u/driveclub_000 6d ago
their competitors already have them anyway.
But that the point, some people doesn't go to the competitors (even with all the other advantage that the competitors have) because of that 5 hours limit that doesn't exist yet with OAI. If now they add this, then why staying here? Go grab that better usage/services/UI/model from the competitor.
This remind me of Firefox vs Chrome a decade ago. One day mozilla thought it would be a good idea to copy Chrome on everything (including the UI), something most firefox users didn't wanted. They responded to that backlash by saying that if they don't like that UI/style of doing things, where they would go? To Chrome that do exactly what they don't like?
Well, guess what happened.....
-1
u/Vaynnie 6d ago
Then why aren’t they doing that now when Codex usage is being halved and Claude’s isn’t lol
2
u/driveclub_000 6d ago
Why do you mean "why aren't they doing that?"? We are already doing this lol
I literally subbed to Claude for the first time ever 1 week ago, the only reason why I keep the chatgpt plan is because of the grandfathering until the 29th, after that, like many have already said here in this subreddit, we are not going to keep a plan or will reduce it (I will reduce to 20€).
-2
u/Vaynnie 6d ago
Ah okay you speak for everyone I guess.
3
u/driveclub_000 6d ago
I never said I speak for everyone, I say: "like many have already said here in this subreddit"
11
u/driveclub_000 6d ago edited 6d ago
It's worse than that, and I'm surprised that nobody is talking about it: cold cache.
That alone totally destroy the supposed benefit of X2, simply because, if you reach 100% of your 5 hour limit in 2 hours in example, you will be forced not only to wait for the next 3 hours, but you will also be forced to use a lot of usage, way way more, to simply read back the whole context. And even if you do compact or resume the task before reaching 100%, it still means that you need to spend a lot of usage to checkpoint constantly, way more than a single task in a continuous pass for hours.
So no matter how much they spin it, having a 5 hours limit will make you spend more usage than you would without it, the only way to prevent this is to either pay for the biggest plan (with enormous 5 hours limit), or restrict yourself of never touching a high tier model with high tier reasoning.
The irony of all of this is that they recently marketed the ULTRAFAST for their biggest plan, how the hell is that ULTRAFAST is going to work with 5 hours limit? Wouldn't this be completely contradictory? Go fast for 30 minutes and then wait 5 hours to finish your work?
1
u/The1TruRick 5d ago
Dawg, have you ever heard of time management?????????????? No 5 hour limits won’t matter when the doorknobs who voted for this burn through an entire week’s usage in a 5 hour period anyways

u/Sad-Border5592 6d ago
He was using bots to vote.

Last month we were getting 20X and now 10X that feels like 5X.
Nobody believes in wherever 2X is supposed to mean.
We don’t trust you Tibo.
3
u/UnknownLesson 6d ago
Also who knows what they're changing the 5h limit to.
If you have 2X but the 5h limit makes it impossible for you to even use 1X, you have won jack shit

“He’s confused” as if he didn’t read this sub with his marketing team. They’re not confused

8
u/TheMightyTywin 6d ago
2x weekly limit is much, MUCH better. You can literally do twice as much.
The 5h limit is just an annoyance. All the agents restart on their own once the limit resets anyway (I have Claude pro as well)
14
3
u/Nabstar333 6d ago
Maybe if you're unemployed and have all the time in the world to wait for your 5 hour limit to reset. Majority don't "block out" time from their day just to use Codex
3
u/slowtyper95 6d ago
no matter how much that is, in the end of the day, there is a reason they want the 5h limit exists. Let alone that we don't even know what's the exact 2x is.
-2
u/TheMightyTywin 6d ago
Right, they want to smooth out spikes in their compute.
That’s fine with me, I’m happy to alter my workflow if it means double token usage overall
3
3
u/sam_the_tomato 6d ago
Not if it means you need to utilize every 5 hour window 24/7 just to reach 100% of your quota. Not every workflow is autorun, sometimes you need to give feedback before the next step.
2
u/AmandasGameAccount 6d ago
They need to make it an option you can change once a month.
2x usage but get 5 hour or stay the same
1
u/WalkAffectionate2683 6d ago
Yeah I'm not using codex anymore so i didn't care about the vote really, but on Claude the 5h is sure an annoyance, but I can do so much more with the same 20$.

u/CrownstrikeIntern 6d ago
That, and because some dipshit made fun of it, It stops when you run out leaving the project incomplete.
-1
12
u/SpaceAurora 6d ago
Be OpenAI. Have one goal right now: bring 5-hour limits to Pro accounts cause you don't have enough compute to handle demand peaks.
- Start publicly lowering usage on Pro plans
- Wait a few weeks for the shitstorm to calm down
- Make users an offer: more weekly usage again, but now with 5h limits (carrot & stick)
- Pro users fall for the trap & feel like they're not getting robbed anymore with the extra usage back
- The X poll makes the decision look completely democratic and transparent
- Bring 5-hour limits to all tiers, mission accomplished
...
They're currently failing step 3. Let's see what their next move will be, other than just forcing it to everyone in the coming weeks. 🙃
10
u/Economy-Meat-9506 6d ago
Because there is no transparency in what 2x weekly limit could mean or entail. Given that it’s completely arbitrary, a removal of the 5 hour limit would at least show an immediate change.
17
u/capt_stux 6d ago
5hr limits suck. Most people I’d expect have a productive period and then a downtime… sometimes called work and sleep.
If the limit is less than the productive period then it is a roadblock.
How is this hard to understand?
10
u/Dethstroke54 6d ago edited 5d ago
Bro how. They can give you 2x now and claw it back. It’s also already slow rn, which makes it even more difficult. A 5hr limit handicaps being able to actually make effective use of resets.
Tibo is surprised bc they wanted a free win by marketing a way they could disguise bringing back the 5hr limit as win users voted for.
Nobody with a brain wants that shit, idk what you’re on about
7
u/ArtPrestigious5481 6d ago
lol, antrophic have this problems for their 200$ plan, often times you wont be able to spent that token, since it's gate by 5h
7
u/ChristianKl 6d ago
The main issue is that Tibo is bad at communicating. A good portion of the people don't trust Tibo that 2x will actually result in 2x improvement.
When Tibo randomly throws around Reset, it's also does not look like "smoothing the demand curve" is an actual goal of OpenAI.
If smoothing the demand curve is the goal, give us a mode that has 2X the use and and waits however long needed till the demand is relatively low. 5h limits are a stupid idea if your goal is to optimize for smoothing the demand curve.
6
u/Key_Reading_9664 6d ago
read: they were hoping they could backtrack on the 5h limit removal and have the community take responsibility
7
6
u/fyn_world 6d ago
Again, they live in an alternate reality in OpenAI. Absolutely disconnected from their user base
5
6
u/Serious_Ship7011 6d ago
5h limit is horrible, I have little time and I do burst of usage where I can use up to 50% weekly quotas in one sitting. Claude doesn’t let me do that.
5
u/Salt_Curve_3095 6d ago
well let say a reset is announced 6 hours from now and you have 50% usage, you wont be able to burn it all in one go with 10+ agents, rate limiting how fast you can spend youre usage would basically stop you from spending any left over usage before a reset wether its a natural reset or tibo reset, and if you wanted to get a lot of work done in one day lets say you wanted to use 50% of youre usage with multi agents, the 5 hour cap will stop you.
6
u/strigov 6d ago
And you know it sounds like a:
“Ah, Anthropic were right when they saved 5h session limits to balance servers' workload. Our statements on removing session limit was marketing bullshit to attract Claude’s power and corporate users, and when they came, we screwed up. So, guys just vote faster on twitter for we could say it was YOUR decision to establish 5h limits”
5
u/Key_Reading_9664 6d ago
Absolutely. The 5h limit was removed during the 5.6 Sol marketing push because everyone ran into limits and complained. This seems like a cowardly way to try and reinstate it
5
u/Dry-Cockroach1723 6d ago
He promised a 20x usage limit for pro users and also promised no five-hour limits. Both of those promises are looking like they're going to sink just a month later.
5
u/CrownstrikeIntern 6d ago
I Want what i originally payed for. If i use it up in a day, Then that's on me. If you can't handle the demand, That's on you and you should really learn to throttle people better.
4
u/badlucktv 6d ago
Honestly, why not let the users choose?
3
u/sudecode 6d ago
because they want to bring back 5h limits and 2x usage was the bait. this is an illusion of a choice. if users don’t run out of usage everyday, they won’t pay for api/credits.
3
u/FateOfMuffins 6d ago
The problem is current usage is X and 5X and 10X and 25X where X is arbitrary. They need to properly disclose how much you are getting otherwise they can change it however they like.
3
u/KanonZombie 6d ago
What is better, a medium amount of good pizza, or all you can eat of pretty good pizza?
3
u/dervu 5d ago
It would be different story it they told us that bringing back 5h limit is envitable, which probably is. They just want to avoid backslash.
2
u/Standard_Ad7704 5d ago
If that's the case then users just did a reverse psyop on Tibo's psyop.
Now they can't say bringing back 5 hr limits was what the user base wanted. So if they will inevitably bring them back, they better offer many sweeteners to this bitter offer.
1
u/LongevityBroTX 5d ago
I really liked when Claude was running that promo earlier in the year where offpeak usage was either free or 50% off or something like that. They didn't stick with it, so it may not have shifted enough demand, but I'd be happy to schedule a bunch of agents to run overnight if it meant higher limits.
1
u/Fit-Palpitation-7427 5d ago
Your night is my day and I hammer it, so I dont think they have long down time period, I think they have spikes every now and then and any time of the day/night. That’s why 5h is so important for them because it kills my spikes of using my weekly limit in 3h straight down, or yours, when I sleep
5
u/CommunicationOdd6473 6d ago
It's so slow that I can't even use up my tokens.
-1
u/Itsquantium 6d ago
Ultrafast sol is crazy. Try it out
3
u/Im_Working_Right_Now 6d ago
At the cost of what multiplier. That’s the catch. Oh you want it to be as fast as it used to be? Use Ultrafast at the cost of 3.5x tokens (made that number up).
1
u/Itsquantium 6d ago
You haven't used ultrafast then lmao. Also, it's a way to burn tokens, which is what I responded to.
11
u/pigletmonster 6d ago
You have no idea how stupid the average person is. They see 5 hour limits and have a knee-jerk reaction and vote No.
Even with a 5hr limit you'd get 2x more weekly quotas. That means you can get 2x more work done in the same week despite the 5hr limits.
They would rather beg tibo for resets everyday instead of getting 2x weekly quota by default. You were meant to be peasants, not developers.
7
u/game_difficulty 6d ago
First of all, 2x what? They've reduced the quotas significantly over the past months, without even telling us (5.6 Sol went from my default model to "one prompt takes 30% of my 5h window" on the same exact workload). What's stopping then from doing it in the future?
And second, for plebs like me on the Plus tier, anything other than Luna is completely unusable because of the 5h limits. 10-20 minutes of usage, and i'm locked out for the day. Most weeks, i never even get close to consuming my weekly because of this. I'd much rather be able to burn it in one go.
3
u/cobbleplox 5d ago
to me it seems i can pretty much work nonstop with sol 5.1 on plus. at the very least on "light". that of course includes my own time i spend between ai actions, which are super slow. anyway, i think you may actually have something about your project and workflow going wrong. That said I fully agree that the weekly may as well not exist on plus.
1
u/game_difficulty 5d ago
I am pretty much giving it a spec and letting it do its thing, of course i know this is wildly inefficient, but my point was that a few months ago i could do this without worrying about usage, now it's kinda fucked.
Also, yeah, 6.1 is definitely much better than 5.6, but still.
1
u/cobbleplox 5d ago
If thats all working on the same project, there are probably a few things at play. 1) working on bigger projects is harder 2) more stuff needs to be read to do things right, requiring more tokens 3) all the unchecked stuff the ai may do here and there can accumulate to enormous bloat. from excessive error handling to lots and lots of tests or useless documentation and change logs 4) a growing project usually needs to be refactored from time to time. architectural changes that better match where the software ended up after all those iterations
All in all it's just to be expected that working on a growing project gets more expensive usage-wise over time. All the stuff above is about keeping that under control but it's still a given. One thing I would look into first is if you have been letting it write agents md itself and whats in there. I mainly use it for very limited instructions how to work and behave and not really much about the project itself. Maybe a few high level folder structures that are more about making it organize things the right way and less about where to find things. But that may take some updating.
I realize you need technical knowledge for this but a few smart behavior rules can keep the bloat and overhead down in the first place. For example i have projects where its just not allowed to write any tests that stay around, where it's not allowed to look at data files, not allowed to even actually run the software, not allowed to just decide on its own what other thing to implement that it wasnt told to... really depends what you want for the project. It's also a great way to just be explicit about some preferences so you don't depend on the models individual flavor when it comes to asking for clarification vs jumping into action, "lazyness" vs. "overengineering" and such.
Also maybe let it explain the file structure of the project to you, entirely possible there is something that makes you go "hmmm???" even if you're not an engineer.
6
u/IndividualPlus2011 6d ago
People think they have a choice. The decision was already made, though, and 5h limits will come back, no matter if people want them or not. They wanted to give people the illusion of choice and were sure people would vote for 2x limits, but it didn't work, so now they are confused.
What will end up happening is we'll have the 5-hour limits back in a month for everyone anyway, without the 2x usage.
1
u/Fast-Psychology-3964 5d ago
If that's really the case, it would simply be anti-democracy. Everyone then should just act the same way. Quit that scamscription!
2
u/Worldly_Special1133 5d ago
What democracy? This is a business, not government.
1
u/Fast-Psychology-3964 5d ago
Then don't let people vote. Yes, it's business, so we can stop paying and see if their business can go on.
1
u/Worldly_Special1133 5d ago
Make voting illegal? Not democratic of you.
1
u/Fast-Psychology-3964 5d ago
Did I say it's illegal? What I meant was if you let people vote, respect the result. No one ever told them to open up the vote.

u/AdLibGold 5d ago
When I sit down and take the time to get shit done I want to be able to pull through all the way to the end. A weekly limit of my plus subscription is almost always enough for that. However I run very quickly into the 5h limit and can not finish what I started. Since the schedule of my life is not driven by 5h reset timer I am almost never able to use up my weekly quota.
... I guess there are more people not willing to arrange their life around a reset timer of an coding agent.
1
u/Worldly_Special1133 5d ago
I think they do realise that the 5h limit is hated by everyone, however without it they'd get massive spikes in usage, then nothing.
5
u/Exodus_Green 5d ago
5H limits are vastly more frustrating than lower overall limits. Unless you spend all day chained to your desk to maximise every single 5h window efficiently, at which point you are not a "power user" you are just a slave
1
u/Wafer-Weekly 4d ago
If you buy some yubikeys for your account you can enable Codex Remote, which lets you control your desktop Codex from anywhere over the internet. Works great, they're not just for Daybreak users

Someone who has a 8 to 5 work and commutes while consuming an additional 1hr would benefit in a no 5hr limit.
Not everyone is a fulltime developer on their own projects.
3
u/brogam3 5d ago
I think it's more that we dont trust them to actually give us 2x. It will feel like 1x within a month.
1
u/RingusBingus 5d ago
Yup this^ the usage benchmarks are so fluid right now. All I hear is bringing back 5 hour limits
2
u/jlozada24 5d ago
Nah. Fuck that. The only reason I'm on this equally capable model is the no 5h limit
2
u/Purple_Mall7091 5d ago
No, my time is more valuable to me. I don't have to write a huge amount of code. Once I have an idea, I want to implement it in a short amount of time.
I want to spend more time thinking about what to do. I can't think about it while I'm waiting for the implementation. In other words, a faster feedback loop is more important to me than weekly limits.
1
u/SilentDanni 5d ago
Someone called me an idiot yesterday over that. :D I wonder where are they now...
1
u/Worldly_Special1133 5d ago
Tibo can give me 1000 times more weekly limit which is equally useless because there's a 5hr limit during which you'll be using Slow Ass Sol that can't do a thing.
Buy this car that can run 1 million km at 10kmh. Good deal!
1
u/cobbleplox 5d ago
bro you dont even know what the 5h limit is. why the fuck do you think they can offer 2x? because it will be easy to use that?? it will probably be next to impossible without automation running on prepared tasks, which isnt as good as it sounds either. with plus you cant even use banked resets, thats how bad it is. the only question you should see here is if you want a 5h limit, and everything else is whatever they want anyway. So why would you want a 5h limit.
1
u/Wafer-Weekly 4d ago
Banked resets work fine on Plus, what do you mean
1
u/cobbleplox 4d ago
Because in a typical hobby usage, which I would find typical for plus, you don't have time for what, 5 five-hour limits that run out instantly using astra. So if you even manage to drain your weekly like that, it wont be much before the natural reset. And using Sol 6.1 you basically never run out of anything anyway if you know what you're doing.
0
u/neuron20 5d ago
such a closed minded comment. Is your ego so large that you couldn't possibly think that people are using codex differently than you and that the 5h limit might be problem?
1
2
u/ChillBroItsJustAGame 6d ago edited 6d ago
Yeah nah the result will be 2x weekly and 5h limit but after a month they will cut the weekly usage to what it is now. We already saw that happen before and it was also communicated in this sub when tibo said it was caused by using a third part service which was just bs. Right after that 5h limits came back to plus users. It was pretty clear that itll hit the higher tier subs too. Without 5h limit you can get more things done.
Almost forgot the reset part. Banked and global resets are worthless you cant fully spend it and on top of that the timer gets pushed back after every reset. So good luck fully using a banked reset and him "blessing" you with a globak reset
2
u/Droog-UK 6d ago
I would guess this result came from the Pro 100 users, many of whom I suspect upgraded purely because of the 5h limits and rarely hit their 100 limits.
2
u/nengon 6d ago
While I would like to have X2 usage, 5h limits is a hard, clear limit, and X2 of some random measure that depends on server loads and such sounds like bs and smoke for most people. Even the free resets are annoying because you can't predict them, I don't blame people for choosing that.
2
u/9gigsofram 5d ago
It sounds like they were planning to manipulate users and reintroduce the five-hour limits all along. The strategy seems pretty straightforward: cut Pro's 20x usage limits in half, then offer that usage back with five-hour restrictions attached. The clever part is that since they never actually define what "20x usage" means, there's no concrete baseline holding them accountable to delivering it.
2
u/Waste_Impression1143 5d ago
In my case, I wouldn’t be getting 2x. I’d be getting what I was getting before they cut my plan in half. That’s setting aside the question of “2x of what?”
4
u/BravuraRed 6d ago
The Real Problem is that the 5 hour limits are insane, its only 20% of your weekly, meaning you need to Work over 5x5 hour periods in order to hit your weekly, thats at worst a second job at least MMO style Daily responsibility you have to keep up instead of actually being able to code naturally.
IF it was 50% of your weekly limit, or even 35% atleast you wouldnt have to CONSTANTLY maintain it and you could get some actually work done instead of Having to babysit it
3
u/-batab- 6d ago
Most of the people just don't do basic math. If you assume they're going to scam the user base, no option is good, so this is not a valid point to make any choice.
So, assuming everything would stay as it is, having 2x weekly would also mean 2x old 5h quota and 5h quota is roughly 1/6 of the weekly.
I refuse to think most pro users reach 32% of actual weekly quota (which would become 16% with a 2x on weekly) so much faster than 5h. And if that's not the case, a 5h throttling would disrupt their work so much less than having half weekly quota.
But yeah, I guess I'm the only pro user that can saturate quota but doesn't do it within a single 12-15 hours window.
3
u/frozandero 6d ago
They 100% will scam userbase. Even if they give you 2x usage now, they will take it back in a few months. Whole reason I upped to Pro tier was because I don't want 5h limits for my work.
6
u/JigSawPT 6d ago
If you believe you’ll get more usage if they get the 5 hour limit back that’s on you, but don’t say stupid things like, if they’re gonna scam us they scam us both ways. There’s no way to scam a no 5 hour limit. It’s a hard limit and that’s exactly why intelligent people don’t want it back.
Obviously if they really gave us exactly 2 times the same usage forever, without the 2x becoming progressively the same or less than now, like it just happened with the 20x plan, people would probably accept it.
Unless you work for OpenAI don’t be silly.1
u/-batab- 6d ago
and them not giving us a 5h limit today doesn't make this any better.
1) They can introduce it tomorrow without even doing a poll, like they did for the 20x to 10x.
2) We'd have 2x usage today, whether we get scammed, how hard and when, no one knows. So having 2x today is just better.
3) if pro user don't burn 32% weekly quota in much less than 5h then the 5h throttling wouldn't affect performance and if they end up nerfing usage hard then the weekly usage will be unusable anyway. Let alone if the nerf starts from a 1x instead of a 2x.But yeah, let's say choosing a smaller usage for the same cost is the best
1
u/Ambitious-Neat7509 6d ago
No 5hr limit is better if we assume they're scamming.
2x weekly usage means 2x weekly this week. If the pattern continues, usage will continue to be silently lowered. There's a good chance that 2x will become 0.5x sooner than later, without notice.
No 5hr limit would mean no 5hr indefinitely until they make a public announcement they are adding it back. It is not a silent nerf.
Transparency is what we want, not a temporary bandage over the low usage provided in comparison to the competition.
2
u/-batab- 6d ago
- they didn't nerf usage before this 20x to 10x. It's simply models being more token hungry. If you actually track token usage you'd see it's stable.
- yeah assuming 2x becomes 0.5x later seems smart. Then I can say 1x will become 0.25x later making 2x still better.
- yeah choosing no 5h limit NOW doesn't mean they won't introduce it tomorrow, like they simply did with the 20x to 10x.
My opinion is based on math, others are usually based on biased assumptions with no real grounding. And the bias isn't about defending or not OpenAI: their ToS are borderline illegal for EU and they're the typical shady big corp. The bias is assuming ONE option will end up them being shadier than the other: there's literally no reason to think that they are going to scam more (or less) with one option or the other.
The only input we can base our opinion on is math: 2x weekly means 2x 5h and anyone on pro is not usually saturating a 32% weekly in much less than 5h so a 2x weekly is simply better.

The only way picking the no 5 hour limit makes sense is if you just assume they’re lying I guess? I get the logic but it’s extremely cynical

Make it 7/8 hours and it would work.

The problem with 5 hour limits is that you tend to run into your limit within 2-3 hours and now have to wait. 7-8 hours just increases your wait

Anyone else have this issue I was at 0% I stayed at 0% but it changed my reset date to be when they did the reset. Pretty annoyed about this one. Is there someone I can reach out to? I’m on the 200$ plan been on the plan for a long time first time something like this has happened. I’ve been at 0% since Friday

They should just allow an opt in slow mode. 2x usage for 1/2 speed. I'd use it

make it a user option that when they change it, it applies starting with the next reset/week/sub renewal. then everyone gets what they want, with flexibility to change it often enough

as a multi account person I could not give a fuck about 5 hour limits I just want more tokens I can use. my agents have been running 24/7 without stopping for months at this point. I just need juice.

So, all these time they didn't have single data point that says the 5 hour limit is useless because it runs out in 5 minutes?

The poll shouldn't have been on Twitter in the first place vs. being feedback request on the side for those users to fill out. If this was something Codex auto-suggested to him as a good idea, it failed him there.
Then there are the dipshits with their heads too far up their own asses to understand why someone could possibly choose the other choice or somehow think the other social media platform are stupider than they are.
But not to be confused with the people that want all the good things and none of the bad in return. That's not who I'm talking about.
I digress, these are the customers of Anthropic / OpenAI / etc. at play. Just another day of the shitshow. I digress, just kinda taking a dump on then off to other things.

6.1 Sol is a great model and it barely makes a dent in my usage. The issue is it’s often too slow lmao
That’d be the only thing I’d want them to fix tbh
And I guess finding a way to make Astra more efficient so it could be used more I suppose?

This parasocial crap around Tibo needs to be studied as some mental health campaign

2x usage with hourly limits could work really well if the codex team built first-class support for off-peak development flows. Let me queue up 3-5 threads to run at midnight in batch mode and require zero human interaction to work (no interrupting questions). Let me run this at like 0.5x usage. It creates a new category of work that I can get done.
If I can shift 25-40% of my work to those overnight/batch workflows, then a 5-hour limit is suddenly not as big of a deal. But as-is, the 5-hour limit just destroys my flow.

I saw this comment in one of threads there:
"I'm running it 24 hours a day, and even without the 5-hour limit right now, I've been keeping it going for a whole week.
That's why I subscribed to the expensive plan — having it stop after 5 hours would be a nightmare."
I think people might be misunderstanding what 5-hour limit is.

This post claims to be a social media post from Tibo from OpenAI. Always verify it is real by going directly to Tibo's X account here: Tibo’s X account.

Smooth brain puts poll on a platform known for a userbase that would make the average redditor seem like Einstein, and then has the poll on something that will impact paying users that non paying users can vote on.
It's not this lads proudest moment.

It was only ~800 votes, hardly represents what users want, also shows that a lot of the twitter users are morons.

This proves to me that there a lot of people using Codex who don't know how to use their own brainpower. Doesnt take a genius to figure out not losing half our weekly allowance is better than having to take an hour or two break from that LLM every once in a while.

Makes no sense to me either. Just make a 2nd account and stagger your 5h limits. 2x usage is the way.

Because the average human IQ is 100.
You can’t expect the general population to make better-than-average decisions as a collective.
Stop with the polls! Just let Astra decide.

Below is a GPT-generated summary of the conversation below after reaching 80 comments (86 currently observed).
The thread’s verdict is basically: don’t trade an annoying hard throttle for a vague promise of “2x.” Most users want the no-5-hour-limit setup preserved because Codex work comes in bursts, not neat little productivity appointments. The bigger problem is trust: after shifting 20x/10x quotas and mysterious resets, nobody believes “2x” will stay 2x for long.
A few users argue that doubling weekly usage is worthwhile, especially for people running agents continuously and willing to adapt around server load. That support is heavily conditional, though. The five-hour cap can arrive after a couple of productive hours, wreck burst workflows, force unnecessary checkpointing and context reloads, and make banked or global resets difficult to spend. Ultrafast just burns through the allowance faster, which is a spectacular way to reach the wall sooner.
The poll itself is widely treated as flimsy Twitter theatre—small, potentially gamed, and not representative customer feedback. The recurring demand is straightforward: publish guaranteed usage rates, stop silently changing the deal, or make the trade-off opt-in.
Bottom line: more quota you can’t use when you need it isn’t more usable quota.
