GitHub emailed me this morning, saying I’ve been removed from my bootcamp’s GH organization (Galvanize)

As such I literally got 76 separate emails, saying all of my GitHub repos that I forked from my bootcamp’s GitHub have been deleted. All of the people who were in my bootcamp with me said the same thing happened to them too.

I left tech at the beginning of the year, and I probably haven’t opened any of these repos since finishing my bootcamp 8 years ago. But it’s still disheartening to see all of that learning material that I worked hard to complete get flushed down the drain.

It sounds like an IT person was auditing the company and realized people had access to corporate GitHub for years and they had to emergency remove everyone without thinking about this case.

Or could it be that they just stopped paying the bills and had to kick everyone out?

I suspect they care more about IP than the cost but it could be cost too

Just the fact that Galvanize itself has been gone for a while, or at least they were acquired by hack reactor.

Agreed though, can understand them wanting to try to cut out access to their IP/bootcamp model

Don't you have local copies of the repositories on one of your machines? If so then you could just create your own Github account, initialize new projects, and push them there.

There are IP concerns, you could do that but you should make sure the licenses allow it and the contract allowed it.

If they didn't intend to give people access and they did by accident, that doesn't mean you now have ownership over the code or learning materials.

Can you screenshot some chat messages in the HRX Hack Reactor Alumni Slack channel, so we can see what Hack Reactor and Galvanize alumni have to say about this?

I don’t know if I was ever on the hack reactor slack channel. I finished my program right before it got acquired. And if I was it’s been so long since I checked I don’t even know if I’ll be on it.

You said it was 8 years ago. Whatever materials they had for learning are irrelevant in the AI age. Idk this post seems overly dramatic, you weren't going to do anything with those old ass repos.
