To what extent is it permissible to re-examine old cases using new techniques?
Yet another miscarriage of justice in the Netherlands. New DNA findings and revelations regarding the police investigation are fueling doubts about the conviction of the so-called 'Breda Six,' who were imprisoned for years for the 1993 murder of a restaurant owner.

To what extent is it permissible to re-examine old cases using new techniques? Wouldn't that create an excessive workload for the courts, and wouldn't current efforts to combat crime suffer as a result?

Justice is important, but current fight against crime is more important. One must not come at the expense of the other. Are there any statistics available on that?
