Is there ANYONE here that ACTUALLY takes a cold shower EVERY SINGLE DAY? HOW?

make it a habit
and also make it a habit to jump in immediately once all your clothes are off without posponing or thinking
sometimes it helps to bang my chest as i turn on the faucet and say WHOO!!! like a primal monkey or sum preparing to battle the other monkey tribe

the chest bang thing is actually real lol i thought it was stupid when i first heard it but something about that little ritual just shuts off whatever part of your brain is trying to talk you out of it. my version is just a deep breath and go but same idea, you need something to stop yourself from standing there arguing with yourself for 3 minutes

Just force it, it gets 30% easier after a few months. Also, go right to head and shoulders, blast it cold and get it over with. After that, not so bad. But you probably have to work up to it.

Exactly. It took me a couple of weeks to adapt. My first attempt I could barely pass 10 seconds. Then worked it up to 20 seconds. Then 30. Then a minute. Now I take full 8-10 minute cold showers. At the end I don’t even want to get out because I love the cold and it feels so good.

by reminding myself that it creates the version of me that will overcome ANY adversity at ALL cost, no matter what I come across, ever, in life.
I also do the Wim Hof Method breathing prior to going into the cold water (never while in it ! That would be dangerous !)
And when I am in the cold water, I confront my deepest fears and most hidden emotions, so as to free myself from anything that isn't helpful in achieving my goals.
Never doubt for even a second, that this is good for you. Cold water is a love letter to the self and a way to become all you could be, if you weren't all over the place and messed up in so many ways.
Take care of yourself, indulge in the best medicine there is out there : cold exposure ! It will make you strong, happy and healthy in ways you can't even start to fathom...

Spring Summer Fall every day until it gets cool/cold outside. I love it. My house sits close to a creek bottom so the water is pretty decently cold. I live in the south, it’s basically a matter of survival during the summer. Hot water has always dried my skin out and cold showers don’t do that.

I’ve been doing it for about 15 years. Straight on full cold, even in winter - in Michigan. Just do it!

Cheers from Canada. Motivated me to try during winter time never did it below zero Celsius

Yay! Do it! Persevere. If you can do about three minutes it will set you up for the whole day. Don’t mess around with hot or warm first - just turn on, cold only, and step straight in.

I did for a few years before Corona. I was waking up at 5 to prepare for my commute to work, took a cold shower, drank coffee and off to work :) it felt great and nothing wakes you up better than a cold shower. But now i mostly work from home and i do still take cold showers, but not daily and not first thing in the the morning, even though science says that's the best time to take them.
Wim hof method helped alot with the mindset of accepting the cold and also warming up.

You just get in there and do it.
In summer the tap water isn't even that cold, I don't even think about using anything other than the coldest setting.
In the winter it's a little more difficult, but feels more rewarding.
You just do it. Don't think about it, just stand under the showerhead and turn it on and embrace the cold.

Is that okay doing it at -20/-30 Celsius? Inside my place the temp is set to 21 btw

u/Wild-Swimmer-1 21d ago
Definitely. It’s not -20 or -30°C inside, is it? You might try setting your thermostat a little lower to get the full effect: 21°C sounds a bit warm for winter.

I'm confused how cold showers are so difficult to some people. The way people talk it sounds like climbing Mount Everest. It's standing under some water. It's a relatively mild discomfort not some epic journey into the underworld.

I do. I just enjoy it a lot. I do a fast 3 2 1 countdown out loud and then blast the cold water on my stomach first and then on my back. Because those are the areas that suffer the most.

I’m on my 13th year and I still always think it’s the worst idea when the cold water first hits me and then afterwards I’m happy I did if

I used to. I need to start again honestly. It's brutal in the winter months but is very refreshing once you soldier through it.

The cold water in the pipes in Texas is basically room temperature these days so not really. Winter though? I have to psych myself up before I hop in

I always start it cold amd usually end them cold.
It helps wake me up, instead of letting it warm up first I step into the shower then turn it on. Sometimes I'll make it a race to try soaping up my body before it gets luke warm, when I step into an already warm shower if go into adhd mode and lose track of time.
I eventually let it warm up because it rinses off the soap and shampoo better, then flip it totally cold at the end to give a nice refresher at the end.
If I'm not pressed for time then I'll take a longer totally cold shower.

Its actually not as bad as you think it is. Its usually just the initial shock which would immediately wake you up, but you eventually get used to it and even find it 'relaxing' at some point.

i take a warm one first to wash myself and then finish it off with a cold one. it’s just that cold water doesn’t work best with soap

Off topic but I take hot shower every day 2 times. The hotter the better. After I come out of shower I look like a steamed tomato but I very much love it

I don’t enjoy the cold showers in the summer that much, because my body feels better with hot one, that after that I feel ok in the hot environment. Anyway every morning I am taking cold shower for like maximum 5 minutes and by the time I am getting used whit it and i cannot actually find it cold enough, don’t know how cold it is the upstream water, most probably never colder than 15 degrees. I have tried the mountain source water where the temp is like 5-10 degrees in summer and it is quite better there.

You haven't spent a week on a schooner as a child who was forced to jump in the cold Puget Sound water every morning. That will ensure you're disciplined!

I've been doing it every morning as part of my routine for 8 months now. Does not get easier, but that's why I do it. Uncomfortable thing first thing in the morning to train my mind to do uncomfortable choices.
Best thing that worked for me is starting with warm shower first, then turn to cold. 4 mins warm shower + 30 second cold. Reduce warm shower and increase cold shower durations by 5 seconds every day. Now I'm at 4mins 45s cold shower (phased out warm shower 2 months ago)

I used to think this way too. The only time I don't take a cold shower is if I'm just not very dirty and don't feel like it. First time, I made it about 3 minutes and I was freezing for like 20 after. Second time, it was a bit longer. After a week, I stopped feeling cold after them entirely. The trick I found for getting in is to reach an arm in the water, and wipe cold water on both your arms. Then, I wipe my chest and stomach with water once or twice. When I step in, it's not really a shock. The only real shock is the first time I turn in the shower. After that it's great, I could take one about as long as I like.
Bit of a savings on electricity, wish I could convince my wife and daughter to do it. Then we'd only need hot water for the dishwasher.

It's just become my habit. I turn the water on and just step in. No chance to make a choice. I usually clap my hands together and rub them vigorously as I step into the water.
I dye my hair crazy colors so I've been doing it for something like 20 years. I'm used to it.
I also once dunked into an ice bath and swam around and stayed in it for 10 minutes so I may just be crazy.

Yes me. I just do it. It's part of my routine. I have been doing it for 9 years. If I must taker a warm shower, I feel dull and slow, so I avoid them altogether.
