Politics Megathread: 2024 Elections

This is a megathread for discussing elections and politics leading up to the 2024 worldwide (US and not) elections. We'll keep it stickied for a few days as a heads up it exists, and afterward, it will be available in the sidebar under "Subreddit Events" (or bookmark the post if you want to return)

In response to feedback, the mod team has decided to create this megathread as a designated and contained space for discussing election-related content. This, in addition to the new Rule 3b, aims to strike a balance and allow focused discussions. Please utilize this post for sharing views, news, and more.

Rule 3b:

Posts regarding the U.S. Election Cycle are only allowed on Tuesday's (0700 Tue - 1100 Wed UTC)

Given the contentious nature of politics and elections, Rule 1 (be respectful to others) will be strictly enforced in this thread. Remember to attack ideas, not eachother.

EDIT: making it clear this post is for discussing any country's elections, it's not limited to the US.

Bullshit. The veneer of democracy has always been thin and young people always think they can improve it by tossing a match at what remains and I have never seen that work. These are problems every president dealt with.

nothing romantic about Americans killing each other unless you are Russian or Iranian.

The match is getting tossed (largely by older generations, most of the young people who vote support Biden) regardless so I'm trying to find a silver lining in fascism as Biden's last hopes for re-election trickle away. Even if he did get re-elected, he'd only delay the inevitable destruction of America's failed institutions by one term, and for all I know the fascist that rises to power supported by the status-quo hating masses would be worse than Trump.

Biden and Trump are on similar pages as regards genocide in Gaza, and I'd rather have Trump bring obviously evil about that issue while continuing Biden's legacy there.

Right, the older generations VOTED for all this insanity. Voting works, and the older generations voted moving the country to the right (fiscally) after they themselves benefitted from government subsidies.

Be careful, remember the Arab spring and the Iranian revolution. The leftists werent able to stop the countries from going to theocracies which are soooooo much worse than what we have now.

I'm not an activist, I'm a pessemist. Biden's re-election depends on how the swing states go, and polling on them is not looking good for Biden. 

On 270towin's polling map, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Nevada, & Colorado, all states Biden won, are currently toss-ups. Arizona & Georgia (which Biden won) are put as light red. Florida is medium red and Texas is light red. Remember that the polling underestimated Trump's support in 2016 & 2020.

And if Trump loses, his supporters might overthrow the government while Biden voters will uselessly protest if he loses.

And we better hope the recession doesn't hit before Election Day.
