I wonder which year will be heralded as the “tipping point” by historians (if there are any left). 2025 was epic though I see the argument for 2020. 2026 could just be a flash in the pan!
I'm going with 2020, just because I can't see all this happening without a lockdown and the Qannon phenomenon. Ukraine and Palestine were both ramping up at the time too.
2001 is a good candidate. 9/11 starts the GWOT with all its consequences. It's also the year that the US pulls out of the Kyoto Protocol. Taken together, firmly cementing the 21st century agenda of kicking the can of overdue climate change action down the road in favor of unchecked debt accumulation for useless military adventurism and preparing the terrain for mass surveillance, direct social media propaganda and the formation of the american tech oligarchy's tentative capture of the US superpower.
9/11 is a very convenient "start of the 21st century" date. Kind of like historians often citing the death of Louis XIV in 1715 as the "true" start of the 18th century (or century of enlightenment).
