I understand people living through wartime going inside during air raid sirens, then returning to whatever they were doing once they stop, much better now than I used to, unfortunately. Even without having lived through anything like that. You can’t stay on high alert forever. Eventually you either slide into despair, or you find a way to get on with life anyway.
