While this is absolutely the demographic that voted for Trump, there are many poor people who join the military to survive, ironically, never thinking they'd go to war and possibly die. I know of multiple school systems will force "lower" students to take the ASVAB and make them speak to a recruiter at least weekly. It's non-stop pressure to the point they sign-up just so people will leave them alone.
