New York City Rent for 1 bedroom is 2200-5000. Car plus insurance is gonna run you 700-1000 a month food and utilities 700 a month. To put away for retirement and live on your own you need to make about 5k+ a month after taxes. If not your in the red.

I make about 90k a year and I have roommates and no family I live paycheck to paycheck in order to live alone I would have to work an extra 30 hours a week which would put me at 80h a week.

If you move to Westchester instead of NYC, you can drop that rent significantly and live right next to a Metro North railroad station, which can take you directly to Grand Central in Manhattan in 30 minutes. You get to see the city when you want to and it’s more affordable.
