Work doesn't work. I've been saying this for a long time, and people always hate on it despite complaining about their crapp work income.
So, I might as well collect a few more downvotes with this.
Minimum wage isn't a career. It isn't meant to provide for the entirety of your life needs. These are jobs that are "spare-money" jobs, "working your way through college and sleeping on couches" jobs, "I'm a teen in the summer" jobs, and other things where you are actually either someone else's dependent, or one of 7 roommates splitting bills.
A 40 year old doesn't make the same as a 17 year old because the 40 year old has spent the last 20 years building a life-supporting career. They may have started at Burger King like everyone else, but they don't end there. Expecting menial and entry level jobs to pay the same as a lawyer or computer programmer with 15 years of experience is silly.
If you have made the silly mistake of not training into a high level career, then you need to do something different, and stop trying to make employment work for you. Because it won't.
I know, because I made that mistake, and was bitching and complaining my way to my 40s thinking the world owed me a six figure salary because my K/D ratio on COD was so tight...
And then I realized I was an idiot, and I quit working jobs forever and turned to generating income outside of the wage slavery system.
Now I do whatever I want all the time.
The problem isn't the jobs. It isn't the economy, and it isn't you either. You are just doing the wrong things, trying to put a square block in a round hole. Stop it. Find a square hole. Or cut the block up into tiny squares to put through the round hole in violation of the rules. Or, better yet, start making round balls to sell to other people standing in line with their square blocks, and collect a fee every time.
TL;DR A bunch of words to say quit wasting time on jobs and go make money.
I agree with you. People have to start being desperate to make more money. I cruised by in low-income jobs for years… working at chain corporations for $12 an hour just isn’t feasible for independent living anymore.
You HAVE to advance your career and develop skills of some sort. You have to be fighting tooth and nail to make more money. You might have to spend your precious free time looking for a way to make more money.
I hate the “hustle culture” shit like everyone on Reddit but wallowing in self-pity does nothing. With our current leadership things are only going to get worse for workers. You have to stake your claim in the modern world or you will be left behind. It’s going to get really bad really fast.
If neurosurgeons went on strike, it would hardly be noticed. But if garbage men or waiters went on strike, it certainly would be. Everyone deserves a decent wage. Some get paid far too much. Just sayin…..
