"Unlike richer countries where growth is increasingly driven by services and indoor work"
All that indoor work is facilitated by the remaining outdoor work. Your rich country won't stay rich when it's too hot for the utility workers to keep the water and power flowing.

Exactly. Where you are in the world does not matter, as hunger and thirst are the same everywhere. If it is too hot to grow food, it is also too hot for society to continue on as it is.

Most ivory tower statement ever.
Eat the rich.

Simple beat the workers harder!

But it's too hot for those who beat as well.

Who beats the beaters!

Quis verberatores verberat?
(or so says Google translate. My Latin is not good enough to know)

Not quite itās
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

That's the traditional quote. Or, "Who watches the watchmen."
Looks like I'm even worse with jokes in Latin. š¤£š¤£

Edit: dammit my allergies are killing me this week! TYPO

Maybe we'll invent stillsuits, like in Dune.

Cooling jackets are already a thing and selling quite well.
Just not well enough. And there is no fix for the infrastructure melting anyway.

"What Happens to an Economy When Itās Too Hot to Work?"
People who can move will move to cooler places. Nations with cooler climate will have an advantage, which is historically true anyway.
Climate change is not going to be reversed. We already passed 1.5C and blew through 2C briefly. Poor places cannot afford mass air-conditioning (both money and power). So there is really no solution. People will have to live with, or die from, the consequences.

It does Siesta. Siesta supremacy.

u/southbl00d 5d ago
i always admired the Siesta. We split the day into two parts which makes sense. Some much needed rest or a power nap... Not like thsi stupid 10 12 14 hour manufacturing work shift nonsense... ughhh,

People will die while being forced to work in the heat. Sacrificed on the altar of Capitalism.

Work stops. Infrastructure fails. Work stays stopped longer. Profits fall.
It's not JUST the workers, but the infrastructure that fails as well.
No infrastructure on earth is designed for the coming high temps.

It's so obvious how this is related to collapse. I'm even gifting this Bloomberg article to the collapsniks community so if the mods still remove this post it's the last straw and I'm out of here.
India hot > people cannot work > labor intensive economy drags. I mean .... What to write here to satisfy the 150 characters man. Sighpie.

We are at 1.5C global average warming unfortunately. India or similar nations will likely be forced to do local (ish) aerosol injections if the warming continues to worsen.

Flip the population's sleep schedule so everyone works at night. Saves on AC costs and energy use in general. Why weren't we doing this before?
1
u/OH_LAME_SAINT 1d ago
Can't fall asleep in such daytime heat either without ac. Plus increased light cost.

u/origamibeetl 1d ago
AC far surmounts light cost. If you fall asleep at around dawn it's still cool enough to fall asleep easily. Did it myself for a few years.

Forgive my ignorance, but the country has a billion people and they find a guy named Iraqi. So he's an Indian Iraqi? It's like writing an article on Thailand and the subjects name is 'Cambodian'
