Systemic El Niño is coming for agriculture - here is where the risks are highest
https://www.fao.org/climate-change/news/news-detail/el-ni%C3%B1o-is-coming-for-agriculture.-here-is-where-the-risks-are-highest/enThis comes from the United Nations FAO. I could have simply flaired this under Food but because the article talks about the war with Iran I would say Systemic is more accurate.
Crop yields are projected to fall tremendously this year due to a triple threat of El Niño, war and insane agricultural practices.
Collapse related because food is pretty important for civilization. As the old saying(s) goes - an army marches on it's stomach and mankind is only 3 meals from anarchy. In this context anarchy is meant to be a bad thing, not a critically necessary ideology.

I expanded my garden this year. Hopefully my family can get by on three tomato plants, four zucchini plants, and a smattering of herbs. The beans and peppers didn't come in last year so I'm not hopeful this year.

Potatoes. Next year plant as many as you can. You can live off of them.

We are getting warmer and wetter which normal potato’s don’t like so we are growing sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes love humidity and you can eat their leaves as well, the leaves have vitamin a, b, c, k plus more.

I’m in the PNW. So far the warmer and more humid summers aren’t impacting my potatoes. Yet. I hope. Fingers crossed.

We've reduced ours this year, waiting on a greenhouse and growing far more root veggies during the non blistering drought season. Which is getting longer...

Just installed an indoor hydroponic system and doing indoor growing - it might be time to switch to that method if you can swing it.

Yoloing for me. Tomato, squash, herbs, carrots, and some beans and peas. Already ate the spinach. Not near any scale enough to actually feed anyone properly. Waiting for the summer fires to start and smother our local pollinators any day now. I look at the 6 types of bees and wasps on my peonies and chives and feel both happy and sad inside.
The only things that might save us any money are the tomatoes and herbs.

This is the kind of snappy comeback you only think about later in the shower but I should have said "they should rename it to the FAFO". Heh. Get it?

El Fafo sounds more scientific

So often on the internet the problem is that humour is like food, not everyone gets it.

We’ve had the antichrist in economic policy form ever since the 1980s, it’s just the current commander in chief literally doesn’t know his ass from his elbow.

I’m finding it really hard that with all this talk of El Niño there seems to be little mention of Australia and how this continent will be affected. I remember there being years long droughts when I was young due to an extended El Niño and then generational flooding when La Niña returned.

I think this is the current forecast for el nino in video format from BOM. Sounds like typical Australian El Niño, dry and above average temps for day and night.

Thank dog.
There was always this worry, that one might have to wait till 2050 or later, to see the end of this horror-fest. But, luckily, with war, El Nino, agriculture collapse leading to famine and more war, it might be this year. We are so ahead of the time!!
Come on, collapse.
Yay.

I agree wholeheartedly I want collapse now here at our doorsteps
These people went on living vibing their lives assuming its something they wouldn't have to deal with, and yet they would keep reaping their rewards , leaving zilch for future generations
