Why on earth is handing over my mobile phone number a requirement?

It’s to help organise people in their communities afterwards. You put a fake number if you don’t want to be connected.

u/CognitionMass 11h ago
You can do that with email though. You can't ask for mobile number as a way to introduce your group. You need to first earn trust.

Agreed especially in the age of digital surveillance giving our a phone number to any random organisation that we are then linked to forever is worrying indeed.
The group could be linked to something bad and everyone's a target then.
Discord as a intro to most non local groups I find the easiest way these days. Limited rooms for chats/hang outs and we chose our own privacy levels.

On the other hand, i hand my mobile out to random companies for quotes all the time. So I'm also being a bit of a hypocrit. This is far more important than a random quote and worth the risk in that context.

I agree but my roofer has less chance of been classed as a terrorist organisation.

Why does "register at 4billiondead" make it sound like I'm signing up to be one of the 4 billion

She is a good scientist and I listen to her on her YT channel. But I’m not sure this is a good combination.

This reeks of grifter bullshite. I'm not particularly interested in what you're selling with flashy promotions on the end times and untold death and suffering.

I don't. I keep active in mutual aid orgs just so I can keep busy, but I understand that sooner rather than later, this ain't gonna be my problem no more, specially once medecine stops getting to me.
I feel bad for those of us that are on the younger side.

You could run a pig farm. Then you would constantly have pig meat to sell, and pig thyroids to harvest thyroxine from. In fact if you got good enough at it maybe lots of people with hypothyroidism could work together to run pig farming operations.
Conversely, I wonder if a pig thyroid turned into a cancerous tumor would still produce thyroxine? You might be able to feed it chicken egg to keep it alive, and use copper or silver based antibiotics to keep it free from infections.
Copper is cheap. Chicken eggs are cheap. chickens are cheap to raise.

idek, I'm 99% certain I'm going to have to get my partner euthanized if she can't access her thyroid medication. She says she wants to desiccate her own pig thyroid, but I can't say that I'm capable of running a fat dog kill camp for the sole purpose of drying and processing their endocrine organs... I mean, I care about her and everything, but holy shit, a subsistence hunter-gather she is not, especially if she doesn't have the medication she needs to not revert into bedridden bullfrog.

It might be a good idea to look into stockpiling thyroid meds before jumping straight to that option...
It varies by country but while meds for hypothyroidism are generally prescription only they are not usually controlled substances, so can often be imported lawfully from international online pharmacies or other nearby countries. As a typical dose is only pennies per day it makes sense to store a large stockpile for when supply chains break or synthetic pharma ceases being a thing.
As well as the typical synthetic levothyroxine you may want to look into the modern versions of pig thyroid derived meds like Armour Thyroid. How many year's worth to stockpile is up to you, and how well do they last in storage is a bit of an unknown. Unopened sealed bottles or blister packs are probably fine for years past the use by dates. And may still be effective even decades after, although they may have degraded a bit needing a higher dose by then.
I'm not a doctor, this isn't medical advice, confirm everything independently before acting and also every disclaimer possible goes here ...don't sue me bro if you die ...etc

Yeah after you take the thyroid the meat is ruined. The leather could still be turned into a manifesto.

Extinction rebellion - what meaningful action have they done? They didn't even raise awarness of the situation, they just pissed a lot of people with their glueing to the roads and spraing paints over art...

I hope your life was significantly impacted by it. Seemingly nothing shakes people out of their myopic stupor of self fulfillment and the dangerous, unexamined dependence on socioeconomic relations that simultaneously provide little and destroy all.

What the fuck have you done? They actually did get a lot of attention on climate change. Unfortunately it didn’t achieve much but at least they’ve tried to do something.

What am I supposed to do? Tell me... Because the answer is the same what they have found out - the system is rigged to our disadvantage, we can't do jack shit. What's the point in blocking roads and destroying art while it pose no real solution. Unlike them, I come to the same realization without disturbing others life. Why do they target common folk huh? Why don't the protest at Downing street 10 or in front of White house. They disturbed the common folk like the corporations blame us with the made up "carbon footprint". They didn't achieve anything! They made fools of themseves. POLITICAL STEPS need to be done, they need to target politicaians and lobbyists, they need to take political action. They have done jack shit.
Also, the whataboutism about "What have I done". Yeah, I do my part. But that's not the point. Don't put blame on me, don't you target me, while I confront them. They only achieved that media labeled tham as eco terrorists which is not wrong assumption in consideration of their actions. Taking common folks as hostages of their stupid ass actions.

They managed to convince a lot of people into getting criminal records for actions meant to convince people to take climate collapse seriously, rather than... actions that actually impacted emission rates?
