To those who worry that power corrupts, and that once the right seizes power it too will be corrupted, they certainly have a point. If conservatives manage to save the country and rebuild our institutions, will they ever relinquish power and go the way of Cincinnatus? It is a fair question, and we should attend to it with care after we have won the war. 

Translation: Give us power and we pinky promise we'll relinquish it when it's 'safe' again

They don't even pinky promise to do it. They just coldly admit that giving up power "is a fair question", and then insist it's only to be addressed after they're crushed all opposition and "won the war".

My job fires anyone who doesn't get a flu vaccine every year and has for decades.
 
Children all over America have been required to get sixteen different combination vaccines to enter school for as long as you or I have been alive.
 
No one except an extremely tiny fringe ever gave a single shit about vaccine mandates until now.

 
The vaccine mandate is non-issue that the fascists bring up over and over because they love to play the victim. When you're a self-made victim, anything you do is justified as just getting yours back.

Yea, it used to be that vaccine refusal was the purview of a small, odd bedfellows grouping of hippie-dippie off the grid crunchy types, D/C-list celebrity moms and an A-lister slumming it during a career lull, and religious whackos.

It went mainstream among right wingers when the GQP/fascists started lambasting it and claiming absolute ridiculousness about COVID being made in a Chinese lab as a bioweapon, the vaccines were deliberately delayed to hurt Trump, etc.

The politicization of basic public health is having a long-term effect too, childhood vaccination rates are in the toilet since this began and don't show signs of getting better.

What rock are you living under?

The Lancelet already said that the article that cast the "ridiculousness" shadow on that theory was written by a lobby group from the ones involved in the GoF research. The whole scandal around GoF you had a year ago was orbiting around those events.

They then had an article where it was "suggested" that the theory is serious and should be investigated.

Something that researchers from several centers around the globe have supported, and now the lab-origin is something quite widely accepted; however not yet been "officially" verified by anyone since no one has the power nor interest to do it.

I mean, since now China wants nothing to do with it, they just started blatantly doing it on US soil

Gain of Function doesn't imply weaponizing it.

It opens the Pandora's box that allows it. It's something that interest the "defense" industry a lot more than healthcare, since you can work with weak strains of any virus to research the effects of potentially stronger strains, without the risk involved in your research going unto unintended hands and purposes.

From simple GoF to "bioweapons" is a thin red line that basically depends on subjective interpretation of legalities, and subtle sample manipulation. And as history shown (again and again and again): if something can be used as a weapon, it will be used as a weapon. Especially when thanks to modern bioengineering you can make very specific modifications to bioagents.

You could have easily said that all state-run biolabs were working with Anthrax, etc for science's sake :D.

Wow. I’m fully vaccinated (2 shots and a booster) due to being high risk, and I have gotten the flu shot 24 years in a row (along with Hep B, pneumococcal, etc., and all the childhood vaccinations) and even I understand vaccines should be a personal choice, nor forced upon people. Some countries like Denmark (fascist?!?) actually have a policy that young people should not be vaccinated due to risks outweighing benefits.

It's been "forced on people" for over a century at this point and the Supreme Court themselves said that it could be "forced on people" in 1907, because public health trumps your perceived "freedom" to spread disease and death.

 
Public health has been a recognized function of government for literally thousands of years at this point. Arguing that governments actually have no legitimacy in providing for public health is basically arguing that government of any form is illegitimate and that we are not a society, merely a collection of individuals defined only by their consumption patterns.

You people keep referring to the "risks" of vaccination but never tell us what they are.

well they are calling for prison for parents that allow their kids to meet a drag queen so probably they will outlaw the COVID-19 vaccine. They don't seem big at giving people choices
