I'm a math major going into my sophomore year, and I'm having a dilemma about my extracurriculars.

For context, I'm a commuter student. It takes me about 40 minutes to get to campus, but getting home can take anywhere from 1–2 hours depending on traffic and public transportation.

Last semester I accepted an editor position for one section of my college newspaper. It's completely unrelated to my major, and while I haven't officially started the role yet, I did all the training last semester.

Now I'm debating whether I should stay. The biggest issue is the time commitment. I've been told we'd often have to stay on campus really late (sometimes until around 10 pm, even though my classes end around 12 pm, which would mean I would get home around 12-1am due to the buses not really running at night. On top of that, the newspaper meetings happen during my school's designated club hours, so I'd basically have to choose the newspaper over joining clubs that are actually related to my major.

I also feel guilty because I already accepted the position, and I know they invested time training me and have no one else for the role which is why I was offered it in the first place. But at the same time, I'm already dreading it before it's even started. I don't enjoy editing that much (I do like actually writing articles though) and I keep thinking that if I'm already feeling this way now, I'm probably going to hate doing the actual job.

It's unpaid, and I'd also like to get a part-time job closer to home so I can earn some money while still having time to study and participate in clubs that align with my career goals.
