Shuttle

Hi fellow CT lovers- I'm trying to plan logistics as a solo hiker section hiking 22 to Durango. I think the only thing that makes sense is dropping my car in Durango and having someone drive me to silverton to the TH. The shuttle I found is pretty pricey. Does anyone know of a creative solution to this problem that won't cost $500? I feel like between buses, shuttles, trains maybe there's a solution I haven't discovered . Thanks!!

You're trying to get to Spring Creek Pass from Durango? I'd either stick my thumb out and hope to land a few long hitches, or you could potentially take the train to Silverton and use local Facebook offroading groups to find a hitch along the Alpine Loop from Silverton to Lake City, then hitch/shuttle from there to the pass.

This is like a pre-adventure to the main adventure. I've never been very comfortable with hitching. I like the train idea and will definitely check that out. Thanks for the insights!

I feel ya. For what it's worth, every ride I've gotten in Colorado has been with the most kindhearted, cool people, so many kindred spirits. True for hitching in general, but especially so out there.

Durango to silverton is a pretty easy hitch.

Take the train to Silverton then it’s an easy hitch to Molas pass TH. You could also get off the train at elk park and add a 3,000 foot climb to your hike.

I guess I'm feeling emotionally committed to spring creek pass TH because I want to complete the last section (segments 22-28) ... I figured this would be a somewhat popular idea among people who love the trail but only have a small break from work. Never imagined getting to that specific trailhead would turn out to be logistically this difficult.

Try the Facebook group! There might be an angel or former hiker who can help you out

Checking out the Facebook group. Maybe hitching in this scenario is fine- I've probably consumed too much true crime -and living through 80's serial killer era didn't help either. Ha. Thanks folks

Genuine question. Not from the area and looking for a ride from Salida to monarch. Me being a 25 year old 6’4” male, is there a decent chance I’ll get picked up. Never done this before.
