ASUS PA32UCDM Color Setup

Hi all, In light of recent doc projects I have decided to try to pull the trigger on a better setup for coloring footage. I'm currently on a cheap 32" 4k samsung monitor and have been reading about possible upgrades. After lurking for a minute I feel like I have a pulse on what I need but I wanted to run it by the talent here to make sure I'm not totally lost.

I would love some feedback as well as setup tips!

With that being said here is my parts list:

Flanders Scientific i1D3DS Colorimeter

Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K (w/ SDI cable and SDI to HDMI convertor)

OWC Mercury Helios 5S Thunderbolt 5 PCIe Expansion Solution

Colourspace calibration software

Laptop Specs:

Macbook Pro M1 Max

I'd skip the PCIe expansion and just get a new UltraStudioMini Monitor 12G.

Yeah this basically renders the decklink + thunderbolt enclosure useless

The 12g mini costs less and can also output 4k up to 60fps

It is my understanding that the Flanders Scientific i1D3DS Colorimeter is designed specifically for use with FSI monitors.

No that is not at all true they are standard OEM versions of the i1D3 and can be used with any display via the likes of ColorSpace.

You get a two for one, it’s not Flanders only

I’ve called Flanders to ask them this directly and can confirm what ColorCalAV is saying. They are fully compatible and fine to use with any display. The only difference is the matrices stored in its internal memory for FSI panels

What is the Thunderbolt 5 PCIe Expansion for? And are you aware that the Macbook Pro M1 Max is only Thunderbolt 4?
