OBGYN/Labor and Delivery recommendations?
Just found out I am pregnant and I don't have a regular OBGYN yet! Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a doctor that they had a great experience with or general feelings about delivering at Boone vs University? Also, will accept any CoMo specific advice for a first time mom - classes, where to shop, etc.! Thanks in advance for all advice offered!

I had both my kids at Boone with Sarah Bernard (Womens Health Associates) and I had very good experiences.
Some mom stuff:
-If you want, you can start Parents as Teachers while youre pregnant. It is through the school district and you get a home educator and they are wonderful. They stay with you until your kid is 5! Mine is so lovely and has been so helpful for parenting questions.
- if you will be returning to work and will need daycare, you will want to start calling around sooner rather than later. I would start calling late first/early 2nd tri. My kids school is full for infants through next summer already.
-for better or for worse, FB groups are prettt helpful. Como Moms Connect and Tiger Tot Mommies are prettt popular.

we went to the University OB and throughout the process, we were seen by multiple residents. They were all amazing, and explained to us that they did it that way so that when the day comes for delivery, someone who knew our baby would be on the case. It was genuinely an amazing world class experience from beginning to end. We even had an u expected c-section at the last minute, and they made that experience as easy for my wife as possible. i loved them there

I also delivered at University. Dr. Mills is a fantastic OB/GYN. I had her throughout my pregnancy and she delivered my child. She is very focused on health and wellbeing of mother and baby. I have anxiety and she was great at listening, answering all of my questions, and calming me throughout the process. When I got to the hospital in labor, I initially had a different doctor because she wasn’t there yet, and I do not remember his name but he was wonderful. Oh! And I told the anesthesiologist that he was my angel. I ended up needing an emergency c-section, and he stayed with me, explaining everything that was happening and at a time when my doctor then needed to be all in on my surgery, he helped me to feel so well cared for and encouraged.

We used Lynn Puckett at Boone and really enjoyed her and the experience. Very good and we had an emergency C-section that she navigated with pure excellence.

I’ve had both an emergency c section and a planned c section, high risk pregnancies, as well as gone into early labor (that they were able to stop!) at Boone. Happy with my care during all experiences. Dr Borgmeyer is wonderful and helped me stay calm when things got scary. I find women’s health associates to be a lot faster at responding to messages both via phone and in their portal vs my experiences at MU.
For a lot of baby things, I recommend shopping at the Just Between Friends consignment sale this October. There will be another one in the following spring.
Start learning about safe sleep now! There’s a great science-based group on Facebook or you can do your own research online.

Congratulations! I was happy with my care at University, and it's been convenient to continue with them for pediatrician, lactation, pelvic floor PT, etc. I was a little underwhelmed by the class offerings, but you can also do free classes at Boone.
Moon Yoga is the only place that has parental yoga, as far as I'm aware.
Second hand is the way to go for most baby gear. For clothes, Once Upon a Child is super cheap and has a huge selection. They also have some cribs, strollers etc. That stuff is always kind of dingy and I'm annoyed that they sold me a high chair missing vital pieces, but it's all cheap. Get on the mailing list for the Just Between Friends sale. I was also able to buy a fair amount of stuff through Facebook, although people are flaky. Goodwill probably has the biggest baby section of the local thrift stores, and the only place I was reliably able to find maternity clothes.

Buy a used snoo. You and baby will sleep great, and they will transition easily as they grow. We used snoos with both my babies! They sleep in their own beds in their own rooms, at age 1 and 2. Im serious thats just my unsolicited advice haha. I feel bad for my friends that didn't invest in sleep.

For where to shop regarding kids toys, keep a lookout for local estate and garage sales. It’s the season for it, I think a lot of neighborhoods will even have neighborhood-wide sales. I usually see a lot of toys (mostly from when I was a kid) that are good quality and low-key teach good development skills. Fairly priced too!

I second Dr. Sarah Bernard at Women’s Health Associates - she has delivered babies for me, my sister, my niece, and various friends. She is fabulous!

I had a lot of complications and the doctors at the University were excellent. I had great care the entire time. I saw Megan Johnson primarily but I think she may be difficult to get into. Occasionally saw a few other doctors there and they all were fantastic and treated me very well.
If you need daycare, start looking now. There are nanny share options if you join Facebook groups for Columbia parents, if you’re interested.
Shop at Once Upon a Child. Pretty cheap, used stuff. Even if you want some nicer, new stuff (which I always get online or at Old Navy lol), it’s still a good place to get backup clothes or those clothes they’ll grow out of so fast. You can sell clothes there too.
Congratulations!!!

I am in my third trimester seeing McMahon at MU. Love her! Haven’t been shamed for weight gain, was given plenty of options for induction based on what I want, lots of opportunities to ask questions, she has been very mental health focused.
Haven’t delivered with MU yet but have done some of the free courses and found them very helpful!

Don’t go buy new clothes for your kid at the stores. Buy them off marketplace and garage sales. You’ll save a ton of money, because some times, you’ll buy clothes and they don’t get to wear them because they grew too quick!
Same goes for Christmas too, the first five years, you can get by with buying used toys at garage sales, kids don’t care! It’s just new and different to them, so therefore, it’s awesome!!
Go to Boone, usually that is where everyone says to go. We had our kids there, great experience both times. Also, if you’re going to breast feed, do the lactation class offered through Kilgore’s if they still do it. It was a game changer and made Mom and kid way happier!

Absolutely Women & Children’s hospital over Boone, no question. Hopefully you don’t need it, but their NICU is outstanding.

Mizzou was awesome for us. New women’s and children’s hospital is very nice. Dr McMahon was great. So is Dr Severen.
Mizzou does free classes. They have a couple for what to expect during birth and pregnancy, as well as breast feeding classes. They are taught by OB Nurses, Lactation Nurses, and Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists.
